The problem is that I don't think there will be a franchise QB in the 2011 draft. I like Luck. I actually think he will be the next Peyton Manning. Yes I said it and stand by it. I think he will be that good. Unfortunately he has indicated that he will likely stay at Stanford to graduate. That might change but if it doesn't there will not be a franchise QB.
Mallet is DA 2.0 - big arm no accuracy. Plus theBobby Petrino offense he is running made Briam Brohm look great and Hunter Cantwell look really good (Cantwell looked like crap as a senior but that was after Petrino left Loisville).
Am not and never was a Locker fan. Way too inaccurate. I just don't think he has what it takes and he hasn't shown me anything to the contrary.
Ponder - I think he will be OK but definitely not a franchise guy. A marginal starter in the NFL more likely a career backup.
Kellen Moore - probably not coming out. He is a great college Qb but I don't think he has the arm strength to make it in the NFL.
A guy I want to check out more is the guy from Nevada. Haven't seen him but what I here makes me think there could be some potential.
I don't know when Denard Robinson will come out but I really like the ball he throws. A lot of zip with minimal effort. Quick release and good accuracy. Problem is with the offense Michigan runs. He will definitely need some coaching in the NFL if he is going to develop.
IMO - if Luck is not available in this draft then I would prefer to see how Colt develops with a full off-season with the Browns.

The Steelers are doing just fine w/o a franchise QB.
We have a lot of problems other than QB, and we need a QB.
Frustrating.

Moore has two NFL draftpicks at WR and a very well coached offensive line.
Moore beat two BCS Bowl teams last year, and a top 10 team this year.
He is smarter, and makes better reads, than a number of NFL quarterbacks.
He is very composed.
His accuracy is pinpoint.
He's tough as nails.
He probably isn't even six foot.
His arm strength isn't strong enough to hit those NFL windows.
(If only we could put his brain on Mallet's body)

To me Luck is the ideal NFL QB. I have been watching him a lot... when I first saw him... I thought that guy is going to be a star in the NFL.
I like Moore as well. He is Drew Brees part 2... very very similar.

Well we all know how stock drops and rises in the months between the regular season and the draft ... maybe we continue with the holmgren philosophy and draft a qb in almost every draft? I have no idea how it will play out .. but I would definately spend a 5th (or so) on a qb like him... the problem becomes the first round becuase in the year 2015 I dont want to be talking about "we could have had Clayborn, patrick peterson, aj green, julio jones, marcell darreus or cameron heyward ... and we took the qb who is already out of the league after 3 or 4 seasons ... "

I suppose he could, truthfully I usually admit that I cant evaluate QBs very well. I would say that philly would probably want a high price for kolb, and unless Heckert is 100% sure that he is a good player and would want him as a franchise QB.. its gonna be a high price ...
However .. if we end up with a top 10 pick and are still sure that we want kolb .. I know we would basically have our choice of at least 2 of the top 3 qbs the way our record might end up .. so we could either pull the trigger on a qb we like, or still have the option to maybe swap 1st rounders with philly for kolb, (and maybe even get another 4th rounder for it as well? ... who knows at this point)
I just assume there are options if we wait...

I don't see how they can ask for a 1st for Kolb after the McNabb trade. You might say because of age, but I say the guy hasn't shown much at all in the NFL except for a concussion.
His leadership ability can also be called into question after that first game and the change of momentum after Kolb went out and Vick came in. It was said by numerous talking heads that the offense looked pretty lifeless while Kolb was in. I'm not really sure what to make of that.
I guess my point is that I wouldn't be comfortable giving away our (supposedly) very high draft pick this coming year for this guy. I also don't think we have to.

Well i dont think anyone would take them up on asking a 1st for kolb ... but they can ask whatever they want. They also dont 'have' to trade him for anything.
Im just saying that if they have no reason to get rid of him then the price (at least right now) will be steep ... but Vick is not their long term solution, and they need a quarterback after this year when Vicks contract is up. So it will be a hefty tag to pry Kolb away. Doesnt mean we will do it.

That's because you overvalue first round picks.  The siren's song of potential has such a sweet sound.  btw...there are plenty of players I'd trade two first round picks for a not blink an eye.

That would be one. Brees, Rogers, Brady would be others. Andre Johnson would be another. Same with Larry Fitzgerald. Patrick Willis another. How about Mario Williams too. And DeMarcus Ware Chris Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Troy Polamalu. That's it off the top of my head, FOR SURE, I'd trade two future first rounders for this minute. I'd have added Joe Thomas but we already have him!

The only reason I wouldnt trade away multiple first round picks is because some teams (mainly the pats) have found a way to make them even more valuable by turning them into multiple second rounders ...
heck, if Mangini could have done it right ... I still think we could have gotten a LOT more from the Jets for them to get sanchez
