Is it just me or has KNR become un-listenable anymore?
It's not even radio. It's ads, promotions and ENDLESS plugs for local products and services. Especially the really big show with Riz and Hammer. They start talking about sports momentarily and somehow it morphs into a conversation about fixing your leaky roof or buying a new car.

Any other Cleveland area sports-talk shows you'd recommend?

Podcast man. Podcasts. Radio sucks.

I hear ya Diehard...I used to love WKNR back in the late 90's when it was all local sports with the exception of Rome. Brenda >>>> BSK >>>>>Rome >>>> Roda was all I listened to while at work back in those days.

I loved being able to drive to work and listen about the game the night before. Talking about how good we were or complaining how bad we were. But now with Mike & Mike Cleveland is talked about for 5 seconds.

I tried to listen to Regieh and Roda the other day and they were talking about Entourage for 20 minuets. I'd rather listen to Triv talk about poker than listen to Entourage. But they obviously made the change for a reason. If the Browns were more consistent I think we would have more local sports flavor. But with the Browns being perennial losers, Indians haven't done anything outside of 2007 and the this town not really being a basketball town I understand that talking day in and day out about how bad the Indians are all day wouldn't bring in much ratings.

I just came back from picking up lunch and the only sports they talked for the whole 15 minuets was about Kevin Kolb. The rest was like you said, they talked about some theater that is going to show Horror movies from 11pm - 11am coming up and you will get to see a bunch of old horror flicks and a new one never before seen (Probably Paranormal Activity 2)

Ugh. Who's the jackass who decided it was necessary for a sequel to that? I understand producers/directors being low on dope money and all, but when will Hollywood just run out of film?

Thank god I stopped streaming their garbage, otherwise I would have to punch Rizzo in the face if I heard another dumb plug for Jobees.

There is both good news and bad news in that.

If you are listening to radio and you hear no commercials, that station is doomed to go out of business.. if you hear too many commercials, they are making money.. but are almost as you say, unlistenable.

About 39 years ago when I was on the radio, we wanted a balance. I forgot the percentages, but we wanted only x amount of minutes devoted to commercials. We charged more for each 30 second spot so we made up for the revenue loss.

My guess is they don't view it that way at KNR.. man it's been so long since I've listend to broadcast radio,,

I haven't heard a single worthwhile thing on KNR in years. I stopped listening to them entirely a little while back.

They were probably having trouble booking all of their spots - lots of stations were during the peak of the recession, so they probably went cut-rate to fill up, but then had to add more spots to make up the shortfall from reducing prices.

Advertising is picking up again these days, however, so you may see a decline... then again, as long as the ratings show them in a good spot, they may just keep the new format while increasing rates.

I would bet that a degree of it is also just Rizzo copying Lanigan's format, it's a good way for the air talent to negotiate free loot from the advertisers.

i stream it all day at work, rizzo is still awesome, but i can't stand chris fedor. his takes are recycled, and it seems like he goes out of his way to make sure we all understand the doom and gloom of cleveland sports. the browns aren't good? wow, what a take chris! who knew?

rome is wishy washy, some of his shows border on epic, but when he loads up on guests who give their usual typical coached answer, it's unlistenable. (although i don't ever miss when jay mohr hosts, he and tom segura should have their own show)

i can't stand reghi and roda. i used to love listening to roda after work while i do stuff around the house. now i have to listen to lecharles bentley whine about how black people don't have it very good. really?

and i know fedor does the night show too, i swear there was a point during the summer where i randomly switched on the stream, and each and every night he was in the middle of a "jake delhomme sucks" rant.

and greg brinda is maybe the worst radio personality i've ever heard. HORRIBLE. me and 2 of my buddies could put on a better show.

Hammer/Sabrina and Rizz's constant plugging make the Big Show unlistenable.

i don't mind it. plus plugging is part of radio.

although i have picked up on bill simmons' "BS report", i love it. makes my ride home from work very enjoyable. it takes about half the podcast to get home, and then i usually listen to the second half when i go on my walk. awesome. he's good stuff. don't agree with everyhing he says, but i can always see his view.

podcasts are indeed, awesome.

Ya know....it's all media that is over the line with ads. TV, radio, commecials on YouTube, 12 previews+commercials before movies in the thearter, and billboards. It's all too much. You can't go 4 seconds without some jingle or a spokesman lying about how great a product is.

Oh well....I don't listent to the radio, ever. I watch most of my TV off my DVR so I can fast forward through commercials. I turn off the sound on commericals on YouTube. I never click ads on a website. And if some local business puts a flyer on my car, I make it a point to never use them.

He's been on PTI this week, and so far been the only fill in host I dont hate. If Wilboun and Kornheiser arent the hosts, its usually an imediate channel change as Bob Ryan and Dan Lebatard are terrible. However, Simmons fills in nicely.

That's because audiences have become so small that advertisers aren't willing to pay as much anymore. So you have to make that up by selling more ads at a lower cost.

It's simple dollars and cents, people. Considering most people on this forum hate the government because they "don't allow businesses to make a profit," why do you not want Good Karma Broadcasting, LLC to make a profit?

Oh, I'm aware of why the media distributors need to eye/ear rape us with erectial dysfuntion, cola, car, and fast food ads. If they don't, they go out of business. And then I'd be even worse off before (not having a way to view my sports or tv shows).

I'm just saying, the ads are just awful and unwatchable. So I take measure to save myself from the onslaught. It's not like I'm going to run out and buy OxyClean because of the commerical anyway. And 75% of the ads aren't even targetting me too.

To me, the worst aspect of Super Bowl Sunday are the ads AND how people get worked up for them. They're freaking ADS! They're trying to brainwash you into buying their product. Sure, some might be funny but more often than not, the joke or setup has nothing to do with the actual product or factual evidence on why it's worth buying. Just, "we had money to blow on an ad so we'll tell you why our product is awesome by using a talking dinosaur". Ugh. Go away.

Oh well, neccessary evil...but it doesn't mean I have to watch them.

you wanna talk about over the line? see the nfl.

watch premier league soccer for a few weeks, then watch an nfl game, as much as we love it, you'll want to shoot yourself for a while.

touchdown... commercial.. kickoff, commercial... oh, it's the end of the quarter... commercial... injury? let's go to break while this guy's career is over with... replay review? commercial yay!!!

no wonder the nfl is king, a 3 hour game has at least an hr of ads.

On the other side of that coin, NFL players aren't wearing billboards for companies emblazoned across their jerseys like they are in the EPL.

And I hope it never comes to that,...two reasons, thereby, come to mind. Without qualifying my opinion, I'll bet the NFL makes a boatload, or as near as much money in the U.S., as soccer does worldwide. Probably not true, but close ??

And two,...the citizens of this country pay for NFL football whether they like it or not. Every product and service in this country advertises on TV in some shape or form, and TV revenue and stadium taxes pay for the majority of the NFL. Period.

yeah, the nfl doesn't need to advertise on their jerseys... i think the nfl has like 6 or 7 teams in the top 10 in the world of overall value. manchester united i believe is tops, but after that it's pretty much nfl squads. cowboys, redskins, giants, jets, patriots, etc..

and i would bet that the rest of the nfl does better than the rest of the professional soccer clubs that aren't named manchester u or real madrid, etc..

although the advertising doesn't bother me with the soccer players. they're far away when you watch on tv so it's no biggie.

howard stern was the worst when he was on the radio. it'd be 10 or 15 really good minutes, and then they'd go to commercial for what seemed like 15 minutes. i'd always turn it on to something else and forget he was on.

not sure if he's like that on satellite or if they even do commercials. i miss him on the radio though. talk about entertaining your morning.

I would rather see a stupid ad on the jersey and flow to a game rather than watch 3-10 plays then commercial, sometimes more or less. It's just so time consuming.

KNR went to hell a long time ago.

I can't imagine they're working with that much given that kid they put on in the mornings with Rizzo.

Completely useless station outside of Brinda.

I listen to Howard on Sirius daily. I know what you mean about when he was on "terrestrial" radio the commercials were literally 15 mins long. However, the great thing with him being on Sirius, is that he'll talk for 1.5 - 2 hours without a break. When they do break it's only for about 4-5 mins.

Man, I hope he renews his contract.

With regards to WKNR, It appears I am in the minority, but I think the Really Big Show is great. I agree, lots of commercials and that can be frustrating, but I just flip to Stern on Sirius. I do like Hammer as he plays his role well, IMO. Fedor, eh, he's a bit of a whiner.

Reghi and Roda, not a big fan. Liked Roda by himself much better. Reghi, is just bad/boring. I did find it hilarious when Reghi had his own show and a segment called "Bump n' Run" in which he presents a topic and the caller can give a 30sec. take. For about a month straight every call wound up being a prank call or lewd comment. He got so steamed he constantly threatened to pull the segment and apologized to the sponsor. It was the only reason to tune in to his show. Man he threw some tantrums.

Reghi and Roda still do Bump and Run. Their producer is pretty good at sniffing out the guys making crank calls and runs them before they get the chance.

Reghi's show on the day of LeBron's decision spawning the "get off my air, you ignorant ass!" soundbite was hilarious, too.

Reghi and Roda can be pretty hit or miss to me, but I only catch about a half hour of their show on my drive home. I listen to the Really Big Show each day if I'm at my desk at work (stream on my computer), but I listen to it from an entertainment perspective more so than a sports perspective. Fedor is annoying but I understand that he's just there to play the role of heel, much like Hammer did for a very long time. I've noticed that Hammer has toned it way down lately.

RBS was better when it had Josh Sabo and Jeff Thomas though.

Ads before movies in the theatre is what irks me. I'm already paying 25 bucks for tickets and dropping 30 dollars on 2 popcorns and 2 drinks..........and I gotta watch commercials???????

The one that gets me is cable TV.

Pay $80-100/month for their programming ..... and get commercials on every single channel to boot ..... PLUS other channels that are nothing but advertising/selling you stuff.

That's a racket for sure.

I like Rizzo. Hammer and Fedor are clowns. Sabrina is an abomination and it amazes me she's still on the radio at all. She's not hot, she brings nothing to the show and she has ZERO credibility so what good is she? Really the only thing I love about The RBS is when Bernie calls in - life can be a poop sandwhich, but when I hear Higway to Hell come on and Riz yells "BERN-AYY!" all is well.

Today was the first day I can ever remember turning off Rome because of content. Listened to about 4 minutes of "Quad-yeah's" and "All the way turned up" and wanted to stick a pen in my ear. I try to listen to the first segment of the show when I can, but today it was unbearable.

I actually like Reghi and Roda together but I don't listen to them all that much. Too much of either one of them became unlistenable when they each had a show - now that they're together I think they cancel each other out and make a decent show.

LeCharles and Cherry are irrelevant to me. The signal doesn't come in worth a darn when they're on but the few occasions I've had the displeasure of listening LeCharles was spewing things about race and yelling at callers - dude, calm down. And for Cherry having won so many rings why have I never heard of him? Glad he had a nice career but I haven't a clue who he is.

Munch is abysmal. I can't understand the man - he talks too quiet, then talks like the micro machines guy, then yells, then whispers. Unbearable.

And I like Brinda. Seems to be a pro's pro sports radio guy. There are times I don't need the bells and whistles - just a sports show and that's what Brinda delivers.

Adam--I view the Really Big Show in the same light. I listen and view as more of an entertainment than I do sports. Maybe other would enjoy it more if it was taken at a face and that it is an entertainment show with sports mixed in rather than viewing it as trying to be strictly a sports show.

Too many people think of it as strictly a sports show, and that's the problem.

If KNR did all sports shows they wouldn't be profitable. Their lineup used to be all Papa Prune Juice (Brinda) clones. They suffered.

They're a sports marketing company first, radio company second.

Bad sports talk or bad entertainment talk ... I don't care how it's categorized.

Last time I was in town I heard these clowns talking about syndication.

I can't imagine them being syndicated. My guess is that it was sarcasm on their own behalf. However, Rizzo, is now a regular fill-in for Jim Rome when he is on vacation.
