Jackson placed on Injured Reserve
By Matt Florjancic, ClevelandBrowns.com Staff Writer

Browns linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was placed on Injured Reserve, the team announced Saturday evening.

The Browns placed linebacker D’Qwell Jackson on injured reserve Saturday, which ended his 2010 season prematurely.
The team signed wide receiver Sam Aiken to fill Jackson’s roster spot. The Browns also downgraded wide receiver Brian Robiskie and defensive lineman Shaun Rogers to “Out” and wide receiver Joshua Cribbs to “Questionable” for Sunday’s road game with the Baltimore Ravens.
Jackson was working his way back from a pectoral injury that ended his 2009 season after the Browns’ 27-14 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field on October 18th. He was healthy at the beginning of training camp but suffered a setback in practice on August 10th.
He returned to the field again last Friday and was limited through this past Thursday’s practice. Jackson sat out Friday’s practice and had been listed as “doubtful” for Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
“Yesterday, I felt a little fatigued and shut it down,” Jackson said prior to Friday’s practice. “Today, I’ll stay in and do a little bit more treatment. So, next week, I’m going to go out there and push it a little more.”
Prior to Friday’s practice, Jackson was expecting to play sooner rather than later.
“I’ve been feeling good,” Jackson said Wednesday night. “The big tests will be today and tomorrow, hopefully. We’ll try to emulate a game as close as possible. I’ll be the guy going full-speed, trying to make every play just to show the coaches that if I step out there, I’m ready to play.
“I’m anxious to get back out there,” he added. “Sitting around and watching the guys make plays, I want to be a part of that. Once I get out there, I’ll come back to my usual self.”
Jackson, a fifth-year pro from the University of Maryland, was a Pro Bowl alternate in 2008 after leading the NFL with 188 total tackles, registering two sacks and collecting three interceptions, all career highs.
In his first three seasons, Jackson had 112, 111 and 188 total tackles, respectively.

That should mark the end for DQ here in Cleveland. Eh...

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I like Sam Aiken.

He's a big guy .... excellent special teams guy (and former special teams captain), and should be able to pick up our offense and terminology pretty quickly.

He's a guy who has paid his dues about 20 times over. I'm pulling for him, and hope he makes it big here.

It would be nice if someone would ... especially on offense.

Umm, what am I missing here? The guy gets injured...makes his way back to the practice field. After a practice he feels "fatigued" so they shut him down for the season?? Then in the next sentence he's talking about trying to push it more next week?? If he's done for the year there's no reason to be "pushing" anything next week. Rest and heal up or get it fixed. If he's literally just "fatigued" then why the he double hockey sticks are we putting him on IR? There MUST be more to this story.

Neat. Let's see how our passing attack looks with no Delhomme, Moore, Robiskie or Cribbs...YIKES! Let's see what our D looks like with no Rogers (oh wait we saw that in preseason...it was bad to awful). But hey, we can always count on our special teams with Cribb....oh wait nevermind.

Guess we're gonna let Flacco and the Ratbirds get their season back on track after this one.

He's probably played his last game for the Browns.

I took that quote from the other DQ thread - the one where he hoped it wasn't too late to "save our season". I laughed when I read it the first time, I laugh every time I read it. Stopping men cold? Uh, no - not in two years.

Check ya later DQ - it was fun for a bit but it's over. Good luck in the future.

I assume he re-injured or tore the muscle. Otherwise he would just be out a few more weeks until he was ready to go.

Its not like DQ going on IR is gonna make us any worse, we are already a bad team and DQ won't be back in cleveland next year so might as well use his roster spot for someone that could possibly do us some good in the future. Most of our team could be put on IR and replaced by practice squad talent and we would still pretty much be the same team, same talent same results this team is that bad. Sad but true and i'm not gonna be let down by this team anymore, a fan i will always be but my expectations will always be low until this team can prove me wrong.

Wish we knew what exactly happened here b/c the recent stories said he was ahead of schedule.

In hindsight, great job by the Browns not giving a huge contract this offseason to him. I would never wish any of our players to be hurt as I always liked DQ, but financially it was wise to not give a big extension with guaranteed money.

Time for me to start thinking of a new name for my fantasy football teams. Damn.

Best of luck DQ. I always liked you, but this injury is troubling.

Wouldn't it be nice to just keep Jackson for depth, instead of letting him go next year? That's how good teams become good, by keeping depth players that can fill in. And who is going to give him big money in FA?? He can't stay on the field.

Which is the exact same reason not to keep him.. unless of course we get him for Vet Minimum., (whatever that's going to be in the new CBA,, if there is a new CBA that is)

IR? "A little fatigued?" "Out for the year?" From a torn pectoral muscle? Hope this isn't something life threatening.

Well, so far looks like H&H are doing ok...

+ No big extension to DQ
+ Haden and Ward look like the real deal
+ Extension to Cribbs

Granted this team has a lot more ways to go, but at least H&H are showing that they have some idea of how to manage the front office.

I agree ^

Roth, Harrison and Elam are in the same boat as DQ contract wise.

The the one year "show me" contracts may have been the best strategy.

Kids got a history of missing time to injury,, he may not have a choice but to accept a position at Vet Minimum from a team... anyteam.

Which means if we give him a little more than the vet minimum, convince him he knows the system (assuming ryan and the defense stays the same), he knows the team, fans, town, etc ... and he also knows that even if he doesnt start he doesnt exactly have to prove much to at least get play time and reps ... being the 5th or 6th linebacker for us means as many defensive snaps as some other teams' starters ...

if you know what I mean

IMO, DQ is going to be gone after this year, if for no other reason than it seemed to me that he expected to be back this year. He says he's fatigued, etc., they put him on IR.

Now, maybe he said he was just fatigued, then went in the locker room, had an MRI, and discovered it was torn. So, naturally, IR is the proper place.

But, if he was just sore and maybe need another week or two to get back into it, why put him on IR?

Unless our FO felt he just wasn't going to be ready.

Still, I'm just confused.

Right, it's just not adding up.

Regardless I think he's done in Cleveland.

Looks like another surgery for Jackson. That's a shame for him. The guy is a football player, and sitting home has to be killing him. Add in that this is a contract year, and that's just like rubbing salt in the wound.

D'Qwell Jackson's pectoral injury just wasn't healing, says Mangini: Browns Insider
Published: Monday, September 27, 2010, 10:39 PM Updated: Monday, September 27, 2010, 10:44 PM

BEREA, Ohio -- D'Qwell Jackson, who's playing on a one-year contract, will undergo another surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle, this time his right one.

Jackson, who suffered the injury on Aug. 10 in training camp, sat out the final 10 games of last season after tearing his left pectoral against the Steelers in week six. It could spell the end of the road in Cleveland for Jackson, the Browns' second-round pick in 2006 out of Maryland. The linebacker was placed on injured reserve on Saturday.

"When it was initially injured, the thought process was to give it time, let it heal and then progress him back out," said coach Eric Mangini. "Unfortunately, it just didn't respond the way that we hoped it would as we increased the amount of reps, the amount of stress, so we had to make the move."

Jackson returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis and felt good after that session, but experienced tightness and fatigue on Thursday and stopped practicing. On Friday, he said he was discouraged, but that he planned to try again this week. Further tests, most likely an MRI, revealed that Jackson would need to undergo another procedure.

Jackson, who led the NFL with 188 tackles in 2008, signed his one-year tender of $1.759 million in June after it became apparent the Browns wouldn't sign him to a long-term deal. Last year, he spent about six months rehabbing after his surgery before receiving full clearance to practice.

It is a shame, I was counting on him coming in and putting Barton on the bench where he belongs.

On the plus side, if he comes back next year, he could be cheap.

Wonder what's up with ripping both pecs over the last two years? Maybe something with his internal makeup, making the pec muscles more susceptible to this kind of injury? Not sure if I remember hearing of someone go through this in two straight years, on both sides.

At any rate, pulling for a full recovery. Good luck, DQ.

Well, if he did in fact tear it, that at least makes more sense to put him on IR.

I hope he gets back to 100%. I know I'd like to still have him next year.

I am more comfortable in the vet minimum and maybe some sweetener performance stuff in light of this many injuries. OK at linebacker and probably better than several we have. Years and these tears do not add up to monster payday after this year. He may be more valuable in trade; but hope he heals up. He is a gamer and deserves a return to the field.
