To heck with hindsight, as it was happening

Go for it or punt?
single choice

Like someone said in the other thread -- though I'm not sure what way he was leaning -- what are your odds here better at ?

(1) Getting the first down

(2) Getting a 3 and out, and driving 80 yards with little time.

Remember, you're 0-2 with the season basically on the line,....

At a minimum, try your trick at a draw offisides penalty, then punt.

4th and 2 you go for it. I would go with that in almost any situation. I believe there is some math out there suggesting that going for it on every 4th down, no matter the distance or placement , is superior to punting.

Actually, I assumed just the opposite ... for the exact same reason.

4th and 2 with over 4minutes left on your own 28 yardline. You have 2 timeouts plus the 2 minute warning.

You punt.

If you don't punt, you need to be updating your resume, because you aren't going to have a job very long.

I don't think anybody questions the "book" answer. The situation indicated that any chance of winning meant keeping the ball, and the way the defense played yesterday, I just wasn't seeing it. Unitl Roth formally sealed it by committing his error, I never once believed we would get the ball back/

I understand all of the correct logic. Easy for me to say now, I know, but it didn't work. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. As inconsistent as we looked on offense yesterday -- minus the way Hillis played -- I would still have taken that shot, rather than the one we took, banking on a defense that has already been out there too long.

And just to blow myself up, if we hadn't converted, our tired defense is back out there again.

What's the difference ?

I believe there was only one timeout left. Anyway, I'm of the same ilk as those that believe we had a better chance on 4th and 2 than stopping the Ravens in 3 downs then driving down the field to score. I know that football 101 says otherwise, but anybody that's watched this team knew we were not going to see the ball again, let alone score.

Also,...We'd have had a better chance of converting with a run on 3rd and 2 also,...perfect time for a QB draw, or SOMETHING more creative than a 30 yard pass.

I think a better poll would be what to call on 3rd down not 4th. Our hopes ended with the ill-advised deep ball instead of a slant or a rush but I don't remember us calling 1 slant this year so idk

You go for it.. but if you are going to go for it then you don't throw a hail mary out of bounds on third down.. you pound it up in the middle and you probably get it, if you don't get it you probably cut it from 2 yards down to 1 or less than 1.. and there is a BIG difference between 4th and 2 vs 4th and less than 1..

A 30 yard pass to the water boy.
