No, we've got propane, and a wood stove. Maybe he's just uber confident that he did a good job installing it all. We mostly use the wood stove in the winter time.

Again, I really am not sure of his logic. Next time I see the old codger I'll ask him.

Some famous person was saved by one a year or two ago and started a big campaign, gave out free ones and gave it a lot of press. I wish I could remember who it was. It's amazing how seeing them really work changes peoples thoughts. Most of us have them, take them for granted and hate changing the batteries (or pull them out so the shower/stove doesn't set them off).

They make propane detectors, too. Most people with campers use them along side a smoke/carbon monoxide detector.

I think he was just talking about our house. It would be unnecessary in our home. He works with that kind of stuff, so I take his word for it.

I'm not advocating that you go throw yours out or anything.

Just stating what the old man said. I don't exactly know why he made this claim, but, well, just my .02

Oh, ok. Gotcha.

They develop black soot over time.

Regular preventative maintenance is needed on a burner system. Like anything, they lose efficiency over time and need to be serviced to keep them running clean and well.

Ahhh Fooeyy!! I havent cleaned my in years and its fine!!

For some reason everyone in the house has been so sleepy though

I've heard depending on the amount it isn't neccisarily deadly. My friends had a small leak in their office and they just had headaches and felt queezy. But everything is worth checking out, just to be on the safe side.
When my alarm went off, they checked it, but they just told me to get it serviced. They said calling them was definatly the right thing to do.

Thanks for the heads up Brownsgirl. We just had our heating system serviced earlier this week. The repair guy told us we needed to get a detector. My husband just read your post and will be getting one tomorrow. Glad you're ok. Your little one is beautiful!
