Isn't this a promotion for BW?
If so, it's hard to find any fault with his move and comparing it to LBJ's decision is an apples-to-oranges comparison.
Not even in the same ballpark.

He said its a modest pay increase but with cost of living increase will end up being about the same, maybe less.
He was also asked that if ESPN had asked him to go to Dallas (or some other city), and he said he's turned down those offers in the past.

But a promotion can be more than pay right?
I've got to assume working for the mothership is going to pay much bigger dividends in the long run than the PD.
Can't fault a guy for that.

Not really, in his case. I mean, if what he says is true, he's been offered several jobs at ESPN before and turned them down before. It's not as if he is passing up a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Given that he's considered the best in the business, I'm sure he could ring ESPN and write his own ticket.
I don't care personally that he's going to Miami. I couldn't care less. But he shouldn't have let his mouth write a check his butt couldn't cash when he said "I do know that no matter what happens next year, I’m going to be covering the Cavaliers." He seems like a pretty bright guy. He had to be aware that he was probably going to get offered a job covering LeBron in whatever town he landed in, most likely at the personal request of LeBron himself. So why say it if you're going to go back on your word? Where's the credibility in that?

J/C...
Thought Windy had a lot of guts to do the interview and take the calls... True class act...
Thought it was interesting in the first segment when he said LeCon's circle isn't happy he got the job....
I heart winning

Got it. Didn't know that he was offered jobs with them before or that he was considered best in the business.
Maybe he thought his career might suffer covering Cleveland without a star and this was simply a self preservation move.

Ha, can't imagine they would be. He was highly critical of LBJ and gang during the decision circus and following the TV special.
"The medium for the bad news was ESPN, which figured. The network represents much of what is loud, obnoxious and empty in sports today."

like i said, i have no problem with him doing it. it's huge for his career. it's no knock against cleveland. he would have left it it were new york or chicago, or LA. it's a promotion.
but if it ever comes out that he was playing all along during the weeks leading up to the lebacle? nobody will ever take him seriously ever again.

perhaps I should have gone with the "anyone complaining about BW leaving just weren't true BW fans in the first place" joke instead

He got a great gig on the national stage. I would have taken it too. As a journalist, you want to get your foot in the door with someone as huge as ESPN .... and he now has done it. I mean really .... Plain Dealer ..... or ESPN ...... Print media that has laid off many, many employees ...... or the biggest sports network on the planet ....... Plain Dealer paycheck ...... or ESPN paycheck ....... Lemm think about this .....
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Yeah. Rizzo is tossing him softballs and he's wavering and waffling all over the place.

a shame. wish he would just come out and say:
it's no disrespect but he didn't feel he had much of a choice as he can't rely on the PD being around forever and ESPN was offering more money and more exposure which will help his career.
how hard was that?

that's definitely a great point about the pd maybe not having a future.
newspapers are dying. it's a no brainer to take this job.
i just hate that wknr is running callers who have a problem with it 99% and 1% people who are fine with it. once again, the media painting cleveland in a bad light.
i bet if you polled clevelanders about windy, more than 90% would be very happy for windy.

I just want him to stop pretending that he's not just following LeBron, because everybody and their brother knows thats what he's doing. Instead, he's going on about "No, I'm not just covering the Heat, I'll be covering the entire NBA, just based in Miami." and "This is going to be very challenging." and "LeBron is furious with ESPN so don't think that he's just going to open up to me."
All he needs to say is "I've made a career out of reporting on LeBron James, and I'm going to continue doing that." Just be honest. That's all.

i can't believe windy didn't shoot down the delonte/gloria thing just now. he did before when they first came out.
i still think it's a little crazy, but i think that there's more of a chance it could be true.
jeez.

That's the weird thing about it ... It's a crazy, rediculous story. Worse, the person who "broke" the rumor was somebody called Terez Owens who's just some dude on Twitter trying to make a name for himself. There's been no other insider information, and no other reliable sources stepping up. Pretty much every red flag you can hit for a bogus story. Then you look at it a little closer ... Delonte and Lebron's Mom aren't exactly playing with a full deck, and when you go back and watch the tape of Lebron's Game 5 performance ... you have to think something absolutely crazy HAD TO of happened for him to play like that. Then you go to the post-Decision aftermath, and he doesn't even mention his former teammates at all. These were the guys he played around with and made crazy pre-game warmup rituals with for years ... and suddenly it's like they're dead to him. SOMETHING had to of happened.

don't know if you heard the interview today or not, but windy definitely thinks there was some kind of event that broke up the chemistry. he said people have gone to unbelievable lengths to try and find out, but nothing has ever come about, but he also kinda hinted that he may know a thing or two that as a reporter he can't say (probably because the sources are not good enough)
maybe it's also true that the ridiculousness of the delonte thing was a diversion to some other much believable event?
don't think too long about it, because you'll never find out.
i know this isn't a gaming topic but has anyone picked up 2k11 yet? it's getting rave reviews. ign has it 9.5/10
i'm still excited for the nba season.

Oh, I think it'll come out eventually ... it just might not be for a few years. (Even the Albert Belle bat thing got out eventually!)

Actually I think you can. They have this Jordan Challenge mode where you recreate all of Jordans greatest moments. And they added the old school teams in those moments and the real players and all of that. So the Bad Boys are in there, the Cavs even, Lakers, Trailblazers Knicks (pretty sure you can use those teams to play against the current NBA teams too). Ive heard the game is worth it just for that mode alone if you are a big hoops fan.

you are comparing Stern to Selig? David Stern squashes all sources that might come out on such topics.
how many people believe Jordan's retirement wasn't forced? But, how many people can actually prove that?

i don't think it's a sure thing that mj retired because stern suspended him behind the scenes. for one, we all knew what jordan was doing, why would he keep quiet? after all, he was stern's cash cow for the league
i think there is as good of a chance that he wanted to stick it to the bulls organization as much as he was suspended hush-hush by david stern
plus there is always the chance he thought he really could play baseball.

Picked it up last night, you can do this, they have a few classic teams. They have the 89-90 Cavs, I played the Heat last night in Richfield, its pretty slick.

Yeah, they dont have a classic team for everyone, only the teams involved in the Jordan challenge mode.
So the Lakers team the Bulls played in their first finals, the Blazers team from the "shrug" finals, the Jazz team from the "flu game", the Cavs team from "the shot", the Celtics team when he broke the playoff scoring record, the Hawks with Nique, the Sonics team they played in the Finals and then every Bulls team from those games. Oh and the Bad Boys and the Knicks, there might be another, not sure off the top of my head.
But they have those teams and you can use them in exhibition games and they have their home courts also. You might be able to use them in a season, not really sure.
The Jordan Challange mode is pretty awesome though, I was never a Jordan fan growing up, but if you are an old school hoops fan and a video game fan its a must buy Id say.

do they have the Pippen hissy-fit game too (from when Phil gave the last shot to Kukoc and Pippen refused to go back into the game)? Or not because Jordan was busy batting .210 for the AA White Sox team?

just ordered mine from amazon it's on sale for 54 bucks, with free 2 day shipping.
i wish they did a ton of old school teams. you could go back to just about every franchise and get at least 2 or 3 teams that you wouldn't mind seeing out there.

Can you play as the other team or do you have to be Jordan? Can you pull Brad Daugherty to the top of the key to stuff his last second shot?

favorite video-game style non-Cavs teams I wish they would 'resurrect':
KJ/Marjerle/Barkely Suns team (though, this one may have that for the MJ Finals)
Run-TMC Warriors
Webber/Bibby Kings (2001 version)
Dr.J/Doug Collins 76ers
George "Iceman" Gervin Spurs
and the '95 Penny/Shaq Magic team

just because it's fresh in my mind from the 30/30 some months ago, you should be able to replay a series between the pacers and the knicks, complete with punching and fighting.

i played the nba elite demo. it's not bad. the shooting is intersting with the meter, but when they removed nba jam as a throw in, they lost with me (even with my EA connection)

They removed it because the game isnt coming out. I know right now the official word is it is delayed, but I cant imagine it actually comes out. The game is terrible compared to 2K.
However I did like what they were doing with the analog controls, just needs a lot more work, but definitely a good idea. They need to just shelve this years game completely and focus on 12.

i like the shooting, but the players move around kind of stiff. compared to 2k where you get a better feel. the game is also at the correct pace in 2k...
i just hate the sliders. i hate levels of play overall in sports games. the teams and players should be what they are. if you are the lakers, you're awesome, and if you're the minnesota timberwolves, you should suck.
if you have a guy like kyle korver, you're more like to hit a 3 (and it gets off faster) than you would with say, larry hughes.
