Panthers waived WR Dwayne Jarrett.
Hardly a shocker. Even before Jarrett's second DWI in three years Tuesday morning, he had fallen to healthy-scratch status on a team desperately in need of a reliable second receiver. Jarrett had been pushing for a trade since early in the offseason, but he's going to find little interest on the open market as a 2007 second-round bust with bad game tape and major character concerns.

it's a shame. this guy has a lot of talent. assuming he won't be suspended, i have no problem with us taking a look at him on a 1-year trial. he's young, huge, and produced in college. maybe the light can turn on for him in a more disciplined locker room. who did he have to look up to? steve smith, the guy who punched ken lucas? if we could turn him around, it'd be a steal for us.

What a shame. I think the guy has some talent. But what's he got between the ears? Doesn't sound like much.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

with how carroll turned around mike williams, we could use a receiver like that here. like i said, assuming no immediate repercussions and we have a strong enough veteran locker room, we should bring him in and try him out for this season.

i can't see this team bringing in anyone with character issues until they are a little more solid of a football team.
much like the patriots bringing in guys with character issues, dillon, moss, etc.. they had already been a winning club.
i don't think it's the right move for us. although it's probably tempting.

So basically the US....C-Hawks?
I wonder how long it will be until the players get in trouble for illegal contact with agents and money

I don't know, I think Cleveland might be a place for him to straigten out.
The Browns didn't go after Houshmanzadeh, or Terrelle Owens, or Houshmanzadeh a 2nd time. O K but seriously he was replaced by Clowney, who some on here were hoping the Browns would pick up just 2 days ago.
He seems to be better than Clowney, and he will get a suspension, but look , Ben R, just got only 4 games suspension and his crime, well, (let's not play crime vs crime) or Accusation vs Accusation, or whatever. He may be eligible for playing time this season, and 4 , to 6 weeks is minimal this time of year... You may get 6 active weeks at the end of the year? How many did you get from Evan Moore last season?
Can the player join the team midseason and be the best receiver on the team? Well Evan Moore did. He has 2 catches for 40 yds in 2010. What is that one less than MoMass? He has 1 career touchdown?
Listed at 6'4 219? Just how bad of a character is he? Don't good wide receivers often come with ( lets say big ego's?) TO?, Irvin? Ocho? Randy Moss?, Steve Smith, Chris Carter, Jimmy Smith, B Edwards, and Kellon Winslow? how about "Just give me the dang ball" Keyshawn Johnson,
I'll bet the league is just trying to rid itself of someone convicted of a 2nd dui, but if dude has game, wouldn't it be better if SomeONe had it on the Browns for once?
Just the Case FOR the player, ought to be at least discussed.
You aren't getting a #1 receiver, but maybe someone to keep a defense honest, maybe someone to create space in the oppenents secondary, maybe you'd bet getting someone who can make mismatches, ( What I'm talking about is a Start, someone who when you bring in a #1, allows that #1 to look like a #1). See Chris Henry, his 1st year and how the other wideouts on his team benefited. Maybe that is what a Dwayne Jarrett would be longterm. ? The Browns aren't getting anything out of Robiskie, or Stallworth, or Jurevicious, or Hubbard, or Steptoe, or Furrey, or Travis, or Carlton Mitchell, or Haggerty, or ? THIS WEEK! RIGHT?
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Bad game tape and major character concerns? I don't think the FO even gave this guy a first look let alone a second.

Two arrests. He will be suspended, of this there is no doubt.

Dwayne Jarrett is not any of those WRs. He is not 1/2 any of those WRs. I know we are desperate for WRs to do something here, but no, no and no again.

Plus ... he has strike 2 in the form of his 2nd DUI. That's in a 3 year career. If that doesn't scream "problem child", I don't know what does.

But not all wr's are "bad" .. and by the fact that most teams started to shy away from guys like TO, Stallworth, Marvin Harrison, Vincent Jackson...?
The fact is a team doesn't want to deal with the Bad PR as well as not having the player for multiple games ...
I would say there are almost as many good receivers as diva ones ...especially if you factor in what you have to pay the diva receivers as well as how many games they could be suspended, how much controversy they can cause ...
not entirely one way or the other on this though.

Hey! don't lump JJ in there . that man played as well as could have been expected. If not better. Joe was a gamer.

Right.....I still think the Giants were fools to ever let JJ go.
TL; The book is still open on both Mitchell and Haggerty.
What do you expect from late round draft picks? Robo okay we are in agreement here, because he was a high draft pick.

I think my point has been missed.
The point is, What do the Browns look like if Dwayne Jarrett was on the roster? The point is to discuss the option of if someone like him was signed, (or him specifically).
I didn't mean to compare Jarrett, to T.O. Keyshawn, and that list, only to make the point that not every player who has a " big ego" is automatically someone to avoid. I don't expect Jarrett would be anymore than what he is, someone comparable in production to what JuJuan Dawson gave us, when he was here, if anyone remembers. Before you say, Aww He Stunk, think about the production you get from the last 4 games, and most of last year. I'd love if they had a JuJuan Dawson Clone to add to this team, and I'm just guessing from his yards per catch that Dwayne Jarrett would be someone to run routes DOWNFIELD and open up the spaces the defense would have to cover.
Now on the other point that was missed. Haggerty, Mitchell, Joe Jurevicious, and the like. The each represent someone who was on this team or almost (not sure about Hubbard) and therefore must have been part of the plan at receiver. So they were part of the plan at one point, and they are not giving you anything this week. Joe I put in there because he was signed to a SIX YEAR contract, and I think that was no earlier than 2006, So that point is to the organization, not to the players, and it is to say, Where is the Plan? Where is the Plan at Wr, because if it was for J, Jurevicious for SIX YEARS, in mid 2007, and he is Gone, then what is the plan?
If the plan is any of those other players, they are not going to give you anything This week, All of this to make the arguement to "explore" the option of a new plan? because what else do you hope to get out of the Wr position.
Is there anyone who is going to have 40 catches on this team, who does not have Tight End or Runningback next to there name, at the seasons end.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

You can speculate as to what the Browns would look like with Peyton Manning on the team ... but that's not gonna happen either. (Obviously for different reasons than Jarrett)
This FO and coaching staff are not going to go out on a limb for a guy with fair talent, modest production, a disappointing career to date, and terrible character concerns, who is also facing the potential of a year off with his next DUI.
The upside potential is minimal compared to the more likely risks.
I could take my life savings and play it on a single lottery drawing ..... and I can speculate how much better my life would be if I won .... but that doesn't change the fact that the odds are that I lose.
WR will almost certainly be one of the areas addressed in the off-season, or in the draft. (I suspect it will be free agency, if we have a season, etc)
