you dont trade him for 30 yr old #3/#4 wr. If we trade Rogers it better be for draft picks.

Evans is 29. He won't be 30 until March. He is a #1, he would be a #1 on most teams, and he would be our #1 without a doubt.

He also puts up consistently good numbers with nobodies like Ryan Fitzpatrick, JP Losman, Trent Edwards, and yes, our old friend Kelly Holcomb at QB.

Rogers is 31. He's playing like he's 40. His body appears to be breaking down, and he's been unable to play in 1 game, and unable to play at key times in other games. he has played in 5 games, and has 4 tackles. He is on pace for a 12 tackle season. Yea.

If I could trade Rogers, Robiske, and a 3rd rounder for Evans, I would do it yesterday. Done deal. I would never look back. He would immediately make every other receiver on the team that much better, and would help open up the running game by being a legitimate threat on any play.

I would be against trading Rogers for Lee Evans (if Buffalo is really even thinking about trading him, which I somewhat doubt)

But:

1. There might be a lockout next year. If there is, who here thinks Rogers shows up in 2012 under 400lbs?

2. Evans is a local boy. I know it doesn't really matter, but I always root for them to do well and even more so when they are on the Browns.

3. Evans can stretch the field. He can at least make the opposing DC think about how to stop him, what to do to limit his big plays and put a safety over the top. That is more than what they have to do now, which is a good thing.

4. This might be the most important so these are out of order: we have Rogers replacement on the team already. It's nice to have to ability to rotate DL, but we can get by with our current options.

Now that it's being reported that Robaire Smith might be out for the remainder of the year, Trading Rogers seems like a crazy idea.....

Randy Moss was traded for a 3rd, Dieon Branch was traded for a 4th. Both are better than lee freaking evans. You're out of your mind.

Lee Evans is very underrated. His QB's since he's been in the league his QB's have been Bledsoe's last year, Kelly Holcomb, J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards, and Ryan Fitzpatrick. With those QB's he's averaged 892 yards and 6.5 TD's per season (not including this year).

With that said I would not give up Rogers and a 3rd rounder for him.

What would you guys give up for Logan Mankins. He's a 28 year old All-Pro guard.

New England reportedly wants a 2nd rounder for him? That price is too high for me. Especially considering he wants a new contract.

Honestly, with 2 1/2 hours until the deadline and the fact that this is not the NBA/MLB, I feel fairly confident in saying we aren't going to be making any trade moves. If something was going to happen it most likely would've already. Pretty obvious that no one wants Rodgers at the price were asking, not to mention, as was stated by others, if Smith is out for the season we lack serious depth at the position.

It blows my mind that after three years with the Browns people still misspell Rogers' name.

Cleveland Browns not likely to swing a trade today -- source

CLEVELAND -- With just a few hours to go before the NFL deadline, a league source said the Browns had nothing brewing on the trade front.

There has been a lot of speculation the Browns might try to trade defensive lineman Shaun Rogers, who missed all of preseason on the physically unable to perform list and has missed numerous practices in the regular season with various injuries. Rogers is 17th on the team with four tackles. Only linebackers David Bowens (two) and Jason Trusnik (one) have fewer.

0
Share 33 Comments A possible impediment to a trade of Rogers is the likelihood of end Robaire Smith being put on the injured reserve list with a back injury.

THEY MISSED IT: In an interview with Peter King of SI.com, NFL Vice President of Operations Ray Anderson said the hit on receiver Mohamed Massaquoi by Pittsburgh linebacker James Harrison should have drawn a penalty.

"That call should have been made," Anderson said to King.

The hit is also being reviewed by the NFL for possible discipline.

Had an unecessary rougness penalty been called on Harrison, the Browns would have had a first down at the Steelers' 41-yard line with 1:55 to go in the first half. They were down at the time, 7-3.

Might improve the defense if we took an attitusde wrench to EW. Less vulnerable without him on a weekly basis. This bloated and wrong-headed attitude about his Goodness makes him a great candidate for the BenGals. Seems consistent with their opinions of selves. Can't keep up with their interviews. Reminds me of a Bushism: "All hat and no cattle." Seems to fit. A WR AND replace this untackling corner? Sign ze paper.

j/c Bard, not to you directly.

But I cannot believe the amount of hate being lumped at Eric Wright. He's played two very poor games but is he a bad player? Hell no. This is a guy that has been lauded by most members of the board as a solid corner and one of the most underrated CBs in the league.

He's had a couple of poor games but I think he has played enough good games for us that a few bad outings make him trade bait. It's like some people want an excuse to hate all our players.

I don't think Wright stinks....maybe opposing offenses see him as the "weaker" corner. It's relative. He's not a bad corner, but you attack the weaker guy. Maybe that means we really hit a homer with Haden. If we could get to the QB faster, Wright wouldn't look so bad.

And one more thing, NO corner can shut down a WR the whole game. Even Revis got burnt a lot last year. The NFL is a passing league that favors the WR, it's hard to expect perfection from even the best corner.

honestly, that's what happens when 1 WR absolutely kills you (Boldin) and you have given up 6 of the 12 TDs the defense has surrendered this season.

Part of that too tho is most of the times he is matched up 1v1, or so it seems.

Why would our defense continually put him on the spot? Either he keeps expecting coverage over the top (which we have commented in the Post Game Thoughts thread) or Ryan has no other choice but to put him 1v1 sometime.

I am sure Elam's general poor play and Ward's inexperience hasn't helped him out.

I love EW and have certainly been eating crow this year due to his play but I have a feeling there is more at play than just him getting beat over and over.

Agreed to an extent, but personally, I hate the players that I can see getting dealt with every week. The guy has done nothing this year and quite frankly he hasn't built up enough rep/ good will to be given a pass.

He needs to pick it up or sit on the bench.

I read an article yesterday,, can't seem to remember where.. anyway, it was commenting on Wright always being left out on an Island with a top receiver because of all the blitzing..

If we need to blitz fine, but the blitz has to work.. otherwise, you get killed in the secondary... OR, you have to have a shutdown corner.. Wright isn't that.. It doesn';t seem to be working.

Depends on how you define "work" I guess..

If your saying a blitz works when the QB is sacked.. How many times was Rothlesburger sacked.... whatever that number is, that's how often it worked.

If you view a blitz as successful because it stops a successful run or pass,, then a few more times I guess..

Point is, what they are doing isn't working either because the Blitz isn't effective, or Wright can't handle being on an island..

Take your pick

I think it's a bit of both.. from the replays of Wright getting beat I'm seeing guys make 2 and 3 moves and have all the time in the world to develop a route while the QB waits for it... and that is when we do blitz. If you are going to blitz and take away a corners over the top help then you can't give the QB 4 or 5 seconds or 99% of the time the DB loses that battle.

Zero...

thats the number of times Ben was sacked, and thats the number of times our blitz worked...

Our Front 7 STINKS..outside of Rubin...they are terrible with a capital T.

Matt Roth - OVERRATED...Miami sure don't miss him...there is a reason Bill Parcells gave up on him and traded him..if he was any good..Parcells would not have traded him..Parcells knows LBers..Roth is a good depth player, but he isn't a starter...the guy has averaged 3 sacks a season in his career...he is just a good depth guy..he isn't a starter...OLB in the 3-4 gotta be able to pressure the QB...Roth isn't that guy...

Marcus Bernard - 1 game wonder...is worse then Wimbely was against the run.

Dqwell Jackson - The only starting quality LB on this roster is hurt for the year and gone at years end...no contract.

Coleman, , Smith, GoCong, Mosley, Trusnick, and any other bum on this Front 7 are just that BUMS...they wouldn't start on any other team in the league...heck they wouldn't even make the Roster.

Rogers is done...guy is old..he has dropped off big time...due is just finished....

So yeah this team needs 3 DL(2 starters and 1 depth) and 8 new LB (4 depth) before we can even hope to have any semblence of a Defense...Eric Wright problem is more of not having a pass rush then his abilities...

go ahead and put Haden out there...he will get beat like a rented Mule just like Brown and Wright have because we have no pass rush at all...rushing 4 or rushing 5 with this team is liken to not rushing anyone at all...its pathetic...

if our 1st rder is anything other then a D Front 7 player...I hope you like losing for a long time...this team won't win squat until they fix this front 7..I don't care who is QB...

this Defensive Front 7 is wreck...a total wreck...

I think Derreck Robinson is an up grade over Mosley and Schaefering is developing.
Rogers has not been 100% and the biggest reason for his lack of production and PT.

Do we to add to the DL?
Of course we do, but for right now we have to go with who we have or who we can pick up off waivers unless a trade is in the works here close to the 11th hour.

The same with our ILBers.
DQ would have been nice, but we do not have his services this season and Gocong is going to have to continue to get better and I think he has.
Barton will not hurt us mentally, but can no longer make many tackles going forward, because he is running on some flat tiers.
Roth has been an enigma, because he will have one big game and seem to disappear the following week.
I hope it's the case of him being double teamed by the TE and RT.

We moved Matt around a lot in the second half, but it did not seem to produce the desired effect.

Fujita has been making plays and I think is playing above what some anticipated or gave him credit for when signed.

Benard is being asked to take the next step in his development.
It's typical with the conversion to the position to see them first develop as a pass rusher.
I am not ready to wright him off, because it's his first game time experiance in the base defense this year.

No way I could never root for another team....

I am just saying the D Front 7 needs help badly..there just not very good...fixing that would fix a ton of our problems though...I wannt to see Haden do well, I want to see WArd and the rest of our secondary do well...but my lord we need a pass rush...we need to be able to get pressure rushing 4 and 5 out of our base packages...We also need to be better against swallowing up the run...

If we fix that...we are a 8-10 win team..you can win games with Defense and running the ball..look at the bums the Steelers march out at Qb the beginning of the year...they won running the ball and playing Defense....you need a good D to win in this division...this is even more true late in the year...you can't rely on throwing the ball in late november and december in this division...you have to have a good ground game and a very solid D to get to the playoffs...

When it comes to rebuilding a team you always start with Defense first...fix the Defense then go from there...

Eric Wright has gotten into a rut of bad habits this year, doing things he didnt do or atleast we didnt see or it just wasnt exposed last year, He's not locating the ball by turning his head, I think he's so worried about getting beat he's locked on the reciever, reciever goes gets the ball, eric is left waving watching the reciever catch the ball instead of locating it and bating it down or getting into position to make a play on it, Something isnt right with Eric, he's constently getting beat, behind recievers his foot work is terrible and it never use to be, Eric is being asked to play a more physical type of defence when the reciever comes off the line, he's trying to jam them thus he get pushed around and beaten by bigger more physical recievers, just seems to me Eric is playing on his heals and slower then in past years. I don't disagree at all,,

Not in order of importance but this is what we need:

QB: Maybe we have one, maybe we don't,,we'll see
WR: A True #1
RT: We can't keep trying to win with has beens and never weres...
DL: Rogers is getting old, Rubin is solid,
SS: or maybe not... some of that may depend on if Assante starts to click

Then, when those positions are firmed up, we need

RG: Depending on Lauvo (sp)
LB
RB: Depending on Hardesty and how well Hillis holds up.

8 maybe 9 and then you gotta worry about depth.. That doesn't happen in one year or two.. it takes several.. more like 3 at least.

Then there are injuries...

That's why I don't get it when people Rag on a guy like Wright.. If we can see a problem,, you damn well better be sure they see it. But if the cupboard is bare,, what is it people expect...

Get competitive with your starters first, then worry about depth..... and depth will start to take care of itself as you upgrade your starters and your former starters become the backups.

If you aren't competitive with your starters... your depth doesn't mean diddly.

I think the main place I differ from most is priorty.

I see the list like this:

1. DE
2 ILB
3. OLB
4. WR
5. QB

I believe in Mike Holmgren's Qb Philosphy(which was one of the reason i was so excited he came on) which is as he said at his opening day press conference:

"I believe in drafting a QB every year"

Why "waste" a 1st rd pick on a guy you HAVE to commit to for 4-5 years? I mena if you make a mistake and take another Ryan Leaf..your STUCK with him for at the very least 4 years...

however if your smart like Holmgren(and I pray to god he don't go away from what has worked for him all these years) you draft a QB in the 3rd-6th rds every year...eventually you will hit on a guy.

your giving yourself "more chances" to roll the dice and stroke the fire and eventually you will hit on someone...

Taking a 1st rd QB I see as more of a luxary then a franchise changing "need". You MUST have a good team around a 1st rd Qb or your wasting a TON of money...tons...

This team has way too many needs elsewhere to "risk" taking a QB that high and you can't believe all the hype about 1st rders...they have been wrong more times then they have been right..

Look at the things these scouts and media said about Russell, couch, Leaf, Akili Smith, etc...for everytime they have been right they have been wrong 5 times.

when picking in the 1st rd you have to weigh your odds...and pick a position that has the "least" chance for failure and the highest chance for reward AND fits what your team needs...thats why OL, DL, LB, S those positions work out most of the time..

This team needs to focus on making good solid picks...is anyone going to argue that Bill Bellichik taking Richard Seymour #6 overall was a bad move?

We need to focus on hitting with our draft picks in the 1st and 2nd rds on "lower risk" areas and build a good solid foundation of good players...particularity in the D Front 7, Secondary, and OL positions...

but still draft a Qb prospect every year in the later rds..eventually we will hit on a guy...we will hit on our Tom Brady, our Brett Farve...in the meantine...build the rest of the roster with solid quality guys that can play football and things will work out.

Once you have a good solid roster in place...you can win with just about anybody at QB

the Steelers got the the AFC Championship game with Kordell Stewart...they got to the super bowl with Neil O'Donnell...neither of those guys were great QB..but it can be done... they lost because of mistakes on both sides of the ball, but having a 1st rder doesn't guarantee you will win....Tell Tom Brady, Joe Montana that..

i am a big proponent of building the team first and then go from there...The Ravens were competitive with Kyle Boller of all people....just build out a solid roster first..then worry about a QB..in the meantime...just build and take a Qb later every year and keep rolling the dice....

we will get our Matt Hasselbeck...he may already be here with McCoy and there is no way we will know until the kid has played atleast 20 games or so...no way to know...

The OL and the team seems to be rallied around this kid..drafting a 1st rd Qb next year if the team is behind McCoy is just recipe for another Quinn/Anderson v2....if McCoy plays well and has a 80 or higher rating at the end of the year commit to the kid and let him grow..

I shudder at the thought of this team taking another 1st rd QB..shudder...this roster is not ready for that yet...and it look like we got really lucky with MCCoy..NO Rookie looks like that against dick Lebeau..no rookie...

Steeler fans are already saying they think McCoy will be there biggest nemesis in the future and he reminds them of a young Brian Sipe with mobility....we need to give this kid a real chance and this FO needs to show him they are behind him by NOT drafting some 1st RD QB...If Colt plays well enough commit to him and move forward...He is costing us peanuts right now...the money spent on a 1st rd Qb can be used to bring in 2-3 good FA and another draft pick to fix the rest of the team..thats my point..

50 Mill is enough for 3 or 4 more GOOD players...it don't make sense with all the holes we have...thats my point...

I can see that.. the only worry I'd have (and it's probably not really a problem) is that your former starters are mostly likely costing the team a bunch of money.. Could play havoc with the CAP.. (if there is one)
