I disagree somewhat with the concept that Colt is a "3rd string QB". Such a player is not usually an expected future starter. Compare him to Ratliff, for instance.

Yet, that's what he was before injuries took Jake and Senaca,,,

if we can get to mid 300s in total yards, score about 20 points and not give the game away with turnovers, he will have done as well or better than Flacco, Rivers, and Favre have done in the last 3 weeks against the Patriots...

He'll need a lot more than the 75yds passing he had last week in order to secure the starting spot, if we lose, even if he doesn't turn it over. We have yet to see the kid effectively move the ball with any consistency, drive and score. He really needs to step up his game to take away the starting spot from Wallace or Delhomme if they're healthy. Not saying he can't, just that I haven't seen it yet.

I agree with this. I said so a few pages back in this thread... I don't see what everyone else is seeing. Yes, his "poise and maturity" are a nice surprise but don't mistake that for production. I still don't know if we have 2 decent backups or a real starter and neither do any of you. The evidence is just not there yet. He'll get another start this week and he'll HAVE to use his arm against the Pats, we'll probably struggle with the run. I don't expect to win this game because we just don't match-up well against the Pats in like 4 key areas so I'm not going to lay that pressure on the kid. But I expect to have more of a feeling after this game. All this irrational exuberance is just that... it's hopey changey stuff.

If I had to bet I'd say Colt completes about 50% and throws at least one pick and takes a few sacks. As mentioned Colt will have to drop back and throw against the Pats depleted secondary to score points and that means the OL is going to have pass block well (something they've been spotty with this season) against a solid D-line and the TE's and at least 1 receiver are going to need to make 12 to 15 catches between them ( ) and Colt is going to need to inspire all of them to play better pass ball than they have all season. Good luck kid.
