Quote: Oh, yeah... I knew that. He's not a typical Calipari point guard at all.
Speaking of Point Guards, in tonight's game Kentucky vs Conn, one thing I'm very interested in is watching Brandon Knight verses Walker or Napier's defense. More Knight transitioning/controlling the ball.
From the few minutes I saw, I don't think he can handle the ball that well (dribbling). Shabazz Napier is very good at stealing the ball and Walker is good at it too. I think Kentucky will have to pass the ball to get it up the floor, and I'd like to see UConn really press them.
Should be an interesting game though, Calhoun doesn't exactly like Coach Cal. I love Calhoun's past interview about him when he coached UMAss, "Who says they're the king of New England when they've never had chowder?"
I'm definitely excited about this game though. Rebounding and creating turnovers on Kentucky are going to be key for UConn to win. That and we need guys like Jeremy Lamb, Roscoe Smith, and Giffey to make baskets.
Quote: The real matchup isn't Kemba Walker vs. Brandon Knight.
It's Kemba Walker vs. DeAndre Liggins.
Liggins is one of the top 5 defenders in the country. He will give Walker fits.
We shall see. EZPass Kemba Walker has really picked it up this year. I've always said he'll be an NBA PG based off his athleticisim, but now he's really learning to control his turnovers and play smarter basketball. He's also improved his jumper and become a better finisher. He's got the quickness of Rondo, although he's def not as scrappy (yet)
Last year our game against you guys came down to the final seconds I believe. I'd love to get you this year. Either way I enjoy playing good non-conf games. I like playing the best competition, which is why I love the Big East, and I love finding ways to get Duke, Kentucky, and the other big name teams on our schedule also.
I really like this year's Conn team though. I don't think we'll win a championship or anything, we aren't one of the very best in the NCAA. But our players seem to be much more genuine with a much better attitude this year. Last year's team just didn't have the same attitude. We lost AJ Price to the NBA, and it seemed like Jerome Dyson was supposed to take over. He was a great player, but he was no leader or example setter. Him and Stanley Robinson were never very committed team players/leaders. Plus we had no one down low, which really killed us.
Quote: I'm not worried about Kemba Walker. He'll get his points, sure, but he does NOT go for 25+ tonight, guaranteed. DeAndre Liggins is one of the top 5 defenders in the country. Just look at what he did to Isiah Thomas last night. I've been harder on Liggins during his time at Kentucky than I have on any player we've had, but I have nothing but good things to say about him now. A top defender, and just all around hustler.
Its early. It'll give Cal something to take back to the lab to work on. Cal's 2 first half rule messed up T. Jones' flow....and yes he's way better than Prince Harry Barnes
We were dead tired. 4 games in 6 days, including 3 in a row, and a flat out dog fight against Washington last night is tough when you only really have a 7 man rotation.
We'll be alright. UCONN caught us at the right time, that's all.
Thank you, and I'll tell you it does feel kind of good. Especially since two of your top recruits both picked Kentucky over Conn (Knight and Doron Lamb), and our recruiting lately doesn't bring the 5 star guys that yours does
Kemba Walker does work though. I thought he was going to be really good this year, but I didn't think he'd be this money. I still saw some plays where he was out of control, but compared to past years; he's really gotten better at being intelligent as well as quick.
Otherwise, Oriaki is a good player, and our gigantic rotation beyond him really has some good chemistry. I like Napier as our ball handler, and this Neils Giffey German Sensation has been improving in every game he plays. Roscoe Smith looks good too, and Olander (who is this nobody freshman from CT) plays decent defense and he hustles also
Can't wait for conference play to start. As I said awhile ago, these low ball Big East Rankings (by the fellow Big East Coaches as well as by Mr. Candyman) are a bunch of GARBAGE. My guys aren't the greatest, but we do have a great coach and we are better than a few of the teams that were ranked above us preseason
One thing I will say though is we will have to use our quickness to our advantage (ALA Villanova) when we start playing Bigger Teams. Our size is smaller than I've really ever seen it, so we are going to have to make sure we work for every rebound and create turnovers on defense
But we just beat Kentucky and Mich State. That has to count for something. People should have respected my team in the first place
I'm not real sure what Cal said to his team at halftime, but it worked. We looked AWFUL in the first half vs. Boston last night (Perhaps looking ahead to UNC), and then turned a 7 point halftime lead into a 38 point lead in about 10 minutes lol.
at least you had the lead against Boston. did you see Texas against Rice?
Rice takes the lead going into the half, then TX gets bailed out when Hamilton just goes unconscious from deep and it opens everything up for everyone else.
On another note, there is just one flaw I see with OSU. Who's going to be the guy that takes the clutch shot? Unfortunately this guy won't be able to do it for us....

Buford would be my first choice, Craft could surprise as 'that guy' as well. Diebler wouldn't give me a lot of confidence in taking such a shot, but he could make it, and make it look easy. Lighty, I hope not. Lauderdale, um no. Sullinger, perhaps, but if a long three is needed then almost no chance (but he's skilled enough to make me believe it could go in). Thomas is possible, but not who I would design a play for to give him the last shot (not yet at least).
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).
Quote: I hate wisonsin so much. They and Butler have set college basketball back by 50 years. At least butler was kind of fun when they had gordan heyward.
I enjoy Wisconsin. It's so opposite of every other team's style, which serves them well in the tourney (when teams don't have as much prep-time for them).

Serves them well in the tourney?
2010 - 2nd round loss (as 4 seed) 2009 - 2nd round loss (as 12 seed) 2008 - Sweet 16 loss (as 3 seed) 2007 - 2nd round loss (as 2 seed) 2006 - 1st round loss (as 9 seed)
That's the past 5 NCAA tourneys.
I don't know really know about it "serving them well in the tourney"
That's why I hate Wisconsin so much, they are ALWAYS overrated.
Basketball AND football (with the exception of this year in football), they are always a pre-season top 10 team, and they NEVER play up to their expectations.
