Honestly, as bad as the republicans are for the country, I'm glad. Politicians need to be taught they'll be held accountable and lose their jobs. Hopefully when they screw things up this time, the next election will result in even more incumbents losing their jobs and more injection of some new blood to represent us.

Just replacing the house and senate won't be a cure all, but its a hell of a good start.

I have no idea what he's doing over there.

All I know is that it's an awfully expensive trip.

As far as questioning Bush being Unamerican .....I, and others, questioned a lot of his policies ... especially spending.

Now hes getting questioned for a trip to India for reasons we dont even know

He's not getting questioned for going to India.. he can go to India and Indonesia and anywhere he damn well pleases.. what he's being questioned on are the rumors that he's taking 3000 people with him and spending hundreds of millions of dollars per day and renting over 800 rooms at the Taj Mahal.. that's why he's being questioned. If the WH comes out today and says, those are unfounded rumors, the President will have his normal security detail and staff along with a slight bump in security because of the risks of the region and the trips costs are in line with other Presidential trips such as.... then I will let this go immediately.... All the most transparent administration has to do is tell us why they are going and roughly how much it will cost.. I don't need specific times and dates that would allow me to plan an attack.

You don't think this election wasn't in large part a referendum on his performance and his policies? Congress blows but make no mistake this election was about Obama. Democrats ran from him, many wanted no part of him during the election, he was poison.. we should call him President Happy Meal.

It's all crap. But that wasn't the point right? You just have to make the claim and change the subject before anyone looks into it deeply, you don't actually have to have the facts checked. I'm sorry, but between "Death Panels", the absolute lunacy surrounding the census and this, the rightwing medie echo chamber is as bad as the liberal media echo chamber has ever been.

Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell during a briefing at the Pentagon denied these saying, “I will take the liberty this time of dismissing as absolutely absurd this notion that somehow we are deploying ten percent of the Navy, some 34 ships, and an aircraft carrier in support of the president's trip to Asia -- that's just comical. Nothing close to that is being done."

On the flip side, I guess it could just be semantics.... there IS a carrier underway currently in the East China Sea, and two in the Pacific Ocean. One of those could easily be on its way to the region for exercises that coincide with the President's time there, and no carrier ever travels alone, and those exercises always contain lots of smaller ships, support ships and Amphib vessels.

As an example, RIMPAC 2010 - which concluded back in July - involved 32 vessels. Granted, those 32 vessels came from 7 nations for that exercise, it wouldn't be unheard of for it to all be U.S.

So, it's still possible that there will be that number of ships in the area, and if so, it is quite likely that one of their taskings during that time will be to provide support - if needed - suring the Presidential visit.

pd...that is what I asked you???

Just a guess, but I would say more than 1 million jobs lost to India due to outsourcing during the Bush admin...many, white collar jobs, IT jobs.

Bush was 100% FOR sending good American jobs to India...so was the GOP party.

Take the annual wages lost by American workers who saw Bush and the GOP outsource their jobs...$50k, for example...take that times 1 million jobs lost to India...that about $50 Billion

...$50 Billion...that was one expensive trip Bush took to India, wasn't it?

WHY WOULD BUSH THINK OUTSOURCING TO INDIA IS A GOOD IDEA?

How India funds Bush's campaign

By Siddharth Srivastava
May, 19, 2004

NEW DELHI - There is more than one reason US President George W Bush should thank Indians, whether in the United States or India, as the buildup to elections in the US slated for November gathers steam. Indians are contributing handsomely to Bush's campaign funds while, until recently, there was a band of more than 100 dedicated call-center executives who were handling Bush's fundraising and vote-seeking campaign for the Republican Party from the outsourcing hubs of Noida and Gurgaon, which adjoin the national capital Delhi.

While the Internet provides fertile ground for spoofs on Bush's job being outsourced to India, his task is certainly being made a lot easier by Indians. Until recently, HCL eServe, the business process outsourcing (BPO) arm of Shiv Nadar-promoted HCL Technologies, handled Bush's nationwide fundraising campaign over the telephone.

HCL has been very reluctant to provide information about the project, but now that it is over it is more forthcoming, though strictly off the record. According to reports, for 14 months between May 16, 2002, and July 22, 2003, HCL eServe had more than 100 agents working in seven teams soliciting financial contributions for the Republican Party. A report that appeared in the Hindustan Times this Sunday says the task was to mobilize support for President Bush and solicit political contributions ranging between US$5 and $3,000 from legions of registered Republican voters. The report further adds that the voters' database was provided by the Republican National Committee (RNC), the party's premier political organization. The contract for running the campaigns was originally awarded by RNC to Washington-based Capital Communications Group, which provides consulting services to government and private clients for cultural and political networking. For cost and efficiency gains, the company outsourced the work to HCL Technologies, which in turn sent it offshore.

Nobody from HCL BPO Services is willing to go on record to talk about the deal, but sources in the company told Asia Times Online that such a project was under way for a long time, with more than 10 million registered Republican voters contacted for pledging funds. Estimates put the extent of funds pledged due to efforts from India at more than $10 million, with the retrieval of the money being followed up by the RNC. According to the sources, the calling process involved a high degree of automation in order to limit human intervention, with voice recording and recognition technology. In this way the US respondents would not have any idea where the calls were coming from, with foreign-accented instead of Indian voices being used.

HCL eServe also ran at least seven other campaigns to gauge voter moods, including simple yes-or-no polls on such issues as abortion rights. Though HCL executives are tight-lipped, there is a possibility that there are still some projects on hand, with respondents being asked about their views on the war in Iraq.

While it seems that the fundraising contract was called off because most Republican voters had been covered, sources also say that the backlash against outsourcing in the United States as well as pressure from the anti-outsourcing lobby within the Republican Party might have also contributed to the cancellation. It may be recalled that the Indian BPO sector has seen exponential growth over the past few years, with estimates that the information-technology-enabled sector will exceed $20 billion by 2008.

Bush's India connection, however, does not end with the call centers. There's also a lot of money being contributed by Indian-Americans.

It was former US president Bill Clinton who actively sought to build bridges as well as cultivate the Indian community in the United States, recognizing their numbers - more than 2 million - as well as their immense money-power as global information-technology (IT) pioneers. The 2004 US elections are witnessing Indian-Americans reaching out to Republican Bush as a reaction to the virulent anti-outsourcing campaign being orchestrated by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry. Further, given the strides that Indo-US relations have taken under Bush, politically, economically and militarily, the Indian community feels much more comfortable in maintaining this continuity. Bush has himself indicated his pro-India proclivities by promising that he will visit the country next year if he wins re-election. Although India has been unhappy with some of the recent steps taken by the Bush administration, including the granting of special non-NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) status to Pakistan, India's relations with the United States have been by and large on the ascent.

In an interview to the Economic Times before the results of the elections in India were declared, Sharad Lakhanpal of Texas, a doctor and president of the American Association of the Physicians of Indian Origin who is one of the biggest fundraisers for Bush, said: "Indo-US relations are at an all-time high under the current administration. There has been good chemistry between President Bush and the [Atal Bihari] Vajpayee government. President Bush told me himself that [Prime Minister] Vajpayee has been a good friend and is a good man.

"The current administration has appointed several Indian-Americans to high positions. The fundraising will pay dividends for the Indian-American community and for Indo-US relations if the president wins ... re-election. Indians are increasingly recognized in the mainstream US politics," Lakhanpal added.

Although business has reacted with alarm at the Sonia Gandhi Congress-Left combination taking over from the Vajpayee dispensation, there isn't likely to be much of a rollback in the economic reforms program in India. After all, the man tipped to be finance minister, Manmohan Singh, is the original architect of India's liberalization agenda.

Though Indian-Americans have been seen as close to the Democrats, it is estimated that the community has already raised more than $500,000 for the Bush campaign. Bobby Jindal, Republican candidate for Congress, raised more than $800,000 in the first quarter ending March 31, and has $760,000 cash on hand. More than $575,000 of the contributions came from Louisiana donors. A Republican rally in that state that raised more than $1 million for the 2004 Bush-Cheney presidential ticket late last year had several prominent Indians in attendance.

In a speech widely quoted in India, Congressman Joe Wilson recently praised Lakhanpal and Narender Reddy, a doctor from Georgia, for raising more than $100,000 each for the president and categorized them as Bush pioneers. He said longtime Bush supporters Zach Zachariah and Raghavendra Vijayanagar from Florida each raised more than $200,000, calling them the "Bush rangers". "These leaders have rallied the Indian-American community behind Bush," Wilson said.

Dr Vijaynagar serves as chair of the Indian American Republican Council, while Mammen Zachariah, a cardiologist at Holy Cross Hospital in Florida and Zach's brother, is a big fundraiser. Zach co-chairs Bush's Florida re-election campaign and his connection to the family dates back to George Bush Sr, for whom he organized several successful fundraisers. Zachariah also raised more money for Bush's 1992 campaign than any other individual. Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed Mammen to the Florida campaign, while Zach helped found the Indian American Policy Institute, a think-tank to promote Indian-American interests, and chairs the Florida Council on Economic Education.

While praising the Indian community, Wilson, who co-chairs the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, said: "I am proud of the Indian-American community for their loyal support to President Bush."

It all augurs well for India if Bush is re-elected. If he is not, there will remain a bunch of call-center executives who will always be informed about the Republican way of electioneering.

I know most of you teabag Republicans could care less about "outsourcing" American jobs...and you care even less as to "why" Bush and the GOP thought and "still think" outsourcing "your" American job is a great idea...

BTW, any idea how many of those "robo calls" you received in the last few weeks, in favor of republican candidates, came from GOP call centers located in and staffed by those folks in India?

While you attempt to use the term "teabag" as a slam to conservatives, all it really does is make you look childish, foolish, and inane. It reflects on you, and your intellect.

By the way - any response as to your "seeing Tea Party" on your ballot? Any response?

Tell us what county it was in, so we can see for ourselves.

Or tell us that you lied about voting.

Or, if you did vote, tell us you lied about seeing Tea Party on the ballot.

If I'm wrong, show me.

Many people replied to you, from all over the state, and said there was no Tea Party listed behind anyones name on their ballots. Did you get a special ballot?

Answer up mac. Be a stand up person for once. Many people have asked you a simple question. Will you answer it?

See my post above. I think it's been tracked so far to the imagination of Michele Bachmann. I heard on the radio this morning that the whole hotel room count issue is bunk as well. But it doesn't matter... the target audience is sufficiently enraged and they move on to the next subject before anyone looks too far into it.

I certainly complained about a lot of things during the last administration and I currently complain about a number of things regarding this administration but this really has little to do with either administration. This has to do with a blood thirsty, no-holds-barred, polarized media climate that's "in it to WIN IT" rather than even making a passing attempt being truly fair and ballanced. I fully recognize the liberal media's own slant when I listen to any of their miriad outlets but the media machine on the right is currently running into seriously insane and dangerous territory and it seems like no one on their own side is even considering calling them on it. Where is the center right to call for a little maturity and decency? Why does everyone on the right simply jump to defend rather than actually look?

When Jaun Williams was fired from NPR, NPR got lit up not just from the right but from many of us that occupy that largely silent majority that is center right to center left. I'm center left on most things and I fired off my "very disappointed" email to NPR. I know lots of others like me that felt the same way. Rush and Hannity and Beck can say basically WHATEVER they want in total fearlessness because they know that from 1-degree right of center all the way over will rebuff any and all attempts to call them on it. The American right will simply dismiss the credibility whomever is questioning them out of hand or ignore the question entirely and quickly move on. It's that scoring points and winning is more important than anything resembling the truth. Guess what, these guys already scored the points, they won the day. Once the fact checkers arrive the crowd has already moved on. Look at this thread, the majority of the folks that read the initial post and first page or two won't come back to look into it further, the matter is settled for them and they're gone.

I say all this because I think we DESPERATELY need rational right-leaning media oulets right now.

There are wacked-out, politically correct, bleeding heart-bully, far left leaning news sources. Then there are the rational, journalistically responsible left leaning news sources that at least keep the center left from going over the edge. There are whacked-out, blood thristy, anything goes, in-it-to-win-it, far right news sources. There's increasingly no counter point on the right. And it's because there's no demand for it. Why!?!?!

It takes about 2 seconds to find out that the tabloid is owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Teabaggers is a very derogatory word use to describe an explicit sex act. There are no other terms used on here that are at all similar or tasteless.

While it is used primary to describe the movement it has carried over to conservatives in general since they are the backbone of the movement.

I don't see the Tea Party movement as conservative.

Most of their leaders (and many followers) have been on record now or in the past advocating high defense spending, the Patriot Act, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, government intervention in regards to abortion and marriage, etc.

There may be a few in their ranks who could honestly call themselves conservatives ... but it's a very small minority.

Yeah, we are outsourcing all of our jobs to them.

The money is moving positively into their pockets and out of American citizens pockets. Looks like the American President is in their pocket too. Or, at least, in their terrorist hotel, and spending hundreds of millions to be there.

Balance of trade India - 2009 -8 billion.
Balance of trade China - 2009 -226 billion.

Think about that the next time your on the phone with someone from India.

At least they understand the concept.

I dislike our trade policy as much as anyone. Our problem is not with India.

Rep. Michele Bachmann: Obama Spending $200M a Day in India!
Video by Michael Flood McNulty
(2 Days Ago) in Politics
CNN host Anderson Cooper had Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) on his show last night and asked her about reducing the deficit. It's a common line of questioning for all politicians: 'You talk about cutting costs -- but what programs are you willing to cut?'
However, instead of answering that question, Bachmann wanted to talk about President Obama's upcoming trip to India -- and the insane amount of money he's spending each day.
"Well I think we know that just within a day or so the President of the United States will be taking a trip over to India that is expected to cost the taxpayers $200 million a day," Bachmann said. "He's taking two thousand people with him. He'll be renting out over 870 rooms in India. And these are 5-star hotel rooms at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel. This is the kind of over-the-top spending, it's a very small example, Anderson."
Wow. $200 million per day? Bachmann has a right to be outraged.
Yet nobody can prove the dollar amount. According to Talking Points Memo, a few sites investigated this incredible claim and said: "Snopes.com says that the $200 million figure, which has been picked up by right-wing blogs, is "probably false." Snopes traced the rumor back to an anonymous Indian government official, quoted in a Press Trust of India article published on Tuesday. Factcheck.org calls the claim "highly doubtful," and points out that the entire war in Afghanistan currently costs about $190 million a day (h/t AJC)."
Meanwhile, Deputy White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said: "The numbers reported in this article have no basis in reality. Due to security concerns, we are unable to outline details associated with security procedures and costs, but it's safe to say these numbers are wildly inflated."
But Bachmann insists the number is correct.
"But don't all Presidents take overseas trips, and stay in hotels where there's security?" Cooper asked Bachmann.
"Not, not, not at this level. We have never seen this sort of an entourage going with a President before. And I think this is an example of the massive overspending that we've seen, not only just in the last two years, but really in the last four," she responded.

This is proof positive that Backman doesn't want to or can't answer questions directly. Always deflecting..

I think it's worthwhile to view the video that is part of that article.

The funny thing about this story is that nobody can prove the numbers true, but at the same time nobody can clearly show them as being false.

Even the oft touted Snopes simply says "probably not true". They don't have any actual corroborating info to the falseness, just supposition.
