Does anyone on FM just play music in the morning any more? On the other hand, do I really need to hear Free Bird or The Wall ever again? So much good music over the last 40 years and these classic rock stations keep grinding the same tired play lists day after day, year after year, decade after decade.

That is normal when there is a change in shows, for every person who stops listening because they like Jeff and Tom or whatever they were called there will be five fans of the Maxwell show tuning in.

Out here in Colorado Springs the Air Force Academy has their own radio station that they broadcast. That's the only radio station I found without a stupid morning show. I've gotten so sick of radio I just plug my ipod into my car radio and play the songs I want with no commercials.

Long story,it all had to do with contract issues, and Rover being a douche, and Maxwell making some higher ups mad. Rover and MWL didnt like each other and Rover wanted MWL gone so they offered MWL a ridiculous contract and then fired him before he ever even gave them and answer whether he was going to accept it or not.

Whey did not leave, they were taken off the air by Clear Channel despite the fact that they had the #1 show in the listening area.

It'll be interesting to see MWL vs RMG once they get back to their old show without the music and 20 breaks per hour.

Was always a bigger fan of The Maxwell Show over RMG, but I got to tell you, the Alan Cox show has grown on me and prefer that to RMG too. Not hating on Rover, but just like the other guys more.

Why not hate on Rover? His show is awful. Once they moved back from Chicago it sucked to the point where I started listening to Mike & Mike instead, and they're not exactly great...

RMG was great when I first started listening to it, then about a month later I was bored with it, he tries to act like Howard Stern way too much, and most of the stuff they try to do feels way to contrived and fake...

Chocolate Charlie and Nick Swardson have the EXACT same voice... It's creepy...

I remember one day where they started the Maxwell Show with 5 minutes of "And, And, And, And, And.."

Maxwell made me wanna be on radio, Rover makes me tune into WGAR...

I find RMG entertaining at times but really I can't stand Rover, he has turned into such a arrogant self centered tool. Have you ever noticed when he iinterviews a celeberity he always finds a way to talk about himself?

Alan Cox show is Ok, kind of boring at times but Zummach has some funny lines once in a while. Alan Cox reminds me of Dennis Miller when he uses the real obscure historical or literary references that no one else on the show gets.

I noticed a lot of breaks in the MWL show too, I think that will change as they get more material to fill talk time.

The day I stopped listening to Rover was the day they had a staged bit with a "call in" who was trying to defend his affinity for 10 year old girls. It was totally tasteless, and that was the last time I ever tuned in to his show.

Me too. 93.3 has that moronic Bob and Tom show on in the morning..

I don't have the patience to sit through 15-20 minutes of blithering idiocy to get to one fleeting moment of modest comedy.

I will sometimes listen to talk radio in the afternoon. I love listening to Ron Verb being a complete and total moron ... and really loved hearing him whine about the Democrats getting thrown out.

YTown, I think you need to get a life outside of the political arena. I'm not sure it's healthy to spend 99% of your time paying attention to politics.

As for radio shows, I haven't listened to the radio in years. I just plug in the ol' iPod.

In the morning, our clock radio alarm is set to 97.5 WONE out of Akron. I swear to God, they must have some sort of mandate that they must play at least 2 AC/DC songs per hour. For a while, we kept track, and in a 2 week span, we woke up to AC/DC 5 times.

I have more variation on my iPod.

As for the Maxwell show, it's not terrible. But, it gets kind of old, at least to me. JMHO

I love politics almost as much as I hate politics.

The only reason I mentioned Ron Verb is because he spent something like 2 months going on and on about the healthcare bill, and how it was important that it get done ... something ... anything ..... it just had to get done .....

Then he changed course completely and was all about jobs ..... and healthcare should have been tabled because jobs were a far more important priority .....

Then he went back to healthcare, and what a wonderful thing it was ..... and how it would help create jobs ......

The guy should collect a paycheck from the DNC.

As far as FM .... when I tune in a rock station, I want to hear rock. I don't want to hear blithering idiots rambling for 3 or 4 hours. I want music.

I guess that the Bob and Tom show must be cheap enough to overcome the ratings hit from people like me who tune out. I generally switch back and forth between 93.3 and 103.9. There used to be a great alternative rock station at 107.9 ...... but they ruined it and turned it into a rap station. When they changed their format they played "It's the end of the world as we know it" by REM for 24 hours straight. I hated to see them go. That was a great station. They played all kinds of stuff on there.

I remember 107.9 The End very well. And my buddy and I listened to REM for hours that last night.

I remember 107.9 had a guy named Howie Green on in the mornings. I used to listen to him on my way to work.

I found that Oldies 93 WBBG in Youngstown had a total of about 15 songs that they played. So, that got old.

Every once in a while over here, though, I can pick up 102.9, and that's sometimes a nice mix of classic rock.

But, like I said, I generally stick with the iPod.

I must be getting old. I don't have an IPod. I still have hundreds and hundreds of CDs.

Actually I still have a fair number of cassettes, and some *gasp* vinyl as well. (somewhere) lol

I just don't have the patience to transfer all of my music to another new media.

And I'm not sure it would all that safe to try to play the vinyl in the car.

I buy all of my new music on vinyl when possible. Most independent record labels now include either a free copy of the CD or a code redeemable for a downloadable digital copy of the album with records. I could spend $10 on the CD (if you're spending more than $10 on a CD you're getting ripped off) or $13 and get it on two formats. Win/win situation there IMO.

I remember that last day of 107.9 WENZ with the REM for 24 hours. Funny thing is, 107.9 is now (last time I checked, at least) "Cleveland's Blazin' Hip Hop and R'n'B". Jammin' 92.3, the hip hop station in the 90s, is now KRock, which is basically the same format as 107.9 was in the 90s, and even has a holdover or two from those days (Pat the Producer and the Inner Sanctum). 92.3 did go to an automated format a couple years ago which was kind of a bummer, but its still pretty good for hearing 80s and 90s alternative.

You sure seem to listen to Ron Verb a lot for not liking the show.

And I could not disagree more with you about Bob and Tom. I've been listening to them as much as I could since 1998 - give me them over "local hack morning DJ crew" anyday. That said, I could deal with never hearing Heywood Banks ever again.

I love listening to interesting radio, and he's usually pretty amusing, even if I disagree with him.

As far as talk radio shows taking over rock stations ..... sorry, but I hate it. I want music on my music station ,,,, not inane chatter.

Bob and Tom make me want to drive off a cliff, its a good thing we don't have any here in Akron. I was so happy when they replaced them with Rover on 100.7, even though I don't really like his show it's still a thousand times better.

I was a fan of maxwell when he first started, but he kind of turned into a whiny bitch toward the end there and I kind of stopped listening. I don't think he'll do very well in the mornings either, his target audience isn't up that early and as bad as Rover's show is, it does have a following.

I'd be shocked if Maxwell could compete with Rover.

If you want just music and have an internet connection, I now listen to this at work. It's an online 'radio station' but you chose what type of music you want to listen to and it's free. There are ads, but much less than normal radio. You also earn points for listening - I am up to 300k and can redeem that soon for a visa gift card or let it accumulate more.
