Today is Veterans day. If it were up to me, everyday would be Veterans Day, because the vets are the reason we are able to bitch about our government in the first place.

Remember to thank a veteran today, and if you are a veteran on the board, thank you so much for your sacrifice of time and hard work. And to those who have given everything, shall you never be forgotten!

you had a good run Hank.

Amen.

Thank you to all who serve, and to all who have served. You are a huge reason that our country stands strong and proud today.

I would like to ask that people say a prayer for my uncle today. He is a WWII veteran and a former POW. My Aunt passed away Sunday , and her funeral is today. Their stepdaughter also had an accident, and is an induced coma right now. He's going through a lot today, so if you could please remember my Uncle Al in your prayers, I would appreciate it.

Thank you to all veterans.

(and a request to make sure you wear your insignia hats/shirts on days like today, it makes it easier for us common folk to recognize you and buy you beers, coffees, etc.)

At least an 8th generation veteran myself. I've managed to trace back to every war except the Revolution so far. I think I have that one too, but the records get tough to follow prior to the 1800's.

Personally, U.S. Navy, 7th Fleet 1994 - 1998.

Thanks to all my shipmates and the rest of the services.

My womb2tomb best friend is retiring from the Air Force next Spring. Joined up in '86, and is leaving with full bird Colonel decorations on his uni. My Best Friend earned every single decoration that now hangs from his time-honored apparel. I was there at his last promotion ceremony, and was an honored participant.

I've spent the bulk of my life performing in public, under intense pressure and scrutiny... and I have to tell you all, Mark's 'pinning on' was one of the most pressure-filled gigs I've ever lived through. Sweaty palms. Fumble-fingers. The works.

His sons played their rolls impeccably. Me? I felt the full importatnce of The Moment. Almost dropped the pins on the floor, as I fumbled my way through the ceremony.

As the time became uncomfortable, Mark lightened the mood by saying, "Bob- it's just a couple of pins... it isn't that hard."

Those in attendance began to chuckle... and it seemed to help. I was smoooooth from that moment on, but I needed My Brother's help to pull it off. My regard for the enormity of his sacrifice and the sense of history that he volunteered to be a part of turned my fingers to noodles and my brain to mush. He, on the other hand, handled it like it was just another day at the office- or in the field. I guess that's what military training can do for a man- cool under fire.

We civilians can't possibly know the hardships and challenges that our fellow countrymen in uniform endure in their service to our country... and to a person, they don't ask that we do. But I'm asking all of you- as a personal favor to My Brother (from another Mother), My Father (who served in Okinawa) and my Father-In-Law (who served in the South Pacific) during WWII...

...to spend a moment in your busy lives giving thanks to those of us who have risked it all, that we may enjoy the lives we have.

We sleep well- because someone else volunteered to stay awake.

I humbly salute the men and women who currently serve in the armed forces... and I give my undying thanks to those veterans who gave their service in the past.

It is upon your shoulders that we now stand... but you had to stand up first.
