Sorry to keep cluttering things up with new topics but I thought that this was worth sharing. Jake to Houston? Texans won't say By Mike Klis and Bill Williamson Denver Post Staff Writers Article Last Updated: 02/23/2007 01:50:53 AM MST Indianapolis - Assumptions often lead to perceptions in the NFL. When Broncos quarterback Jake Plummer struggled with consistency in 2006, it was assumed he missed former offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, who left to become head coach of the Houston Texans. And because Plummer lost his starting job to rookie Jay Cutler, the perception is Broncos coach Mike Shanahan will trade Plummer to Houston, where he can be reunited with Kubiak. "I don't know if me not being there had anything to do with what you just said," Kubiak said Thursday. "I think Jake's a fine football player. He's a great person. He's had a great career. You all know I think a lot of him. "But I know the young man they have there now, I know Mike thinks a great deal of him. When Mike makes a decision like that it tells you how much confidence he has in Cutler." Yes, but will Houston acquire Plummer? "Jake Plummer is under contract with the Denver Broncos," said Houston general manager Rick Smith, a former Broncos executive. "Right now, David Carr is our quarterback." Restructuring Warren
The Broncos are trying to rework defensive tackle Gerard Warren's contract. While the plan is in the early stages, if Warren does not agree to a restructuring that will cut his pay, it could lead to him being released.
Warren signed a six-year, $36 million deal last March. Warren wasn't as effective in 2006 as he was in 2005, but he played with two toe injuries.
In addition to Warren, Denver could get more salary-cap room by trading or releasing Plummer, and redoing the contracts of receiver Rod Smith and possibly defensive linemen Ebenezer Ekuban, Kenard Lang and Courtney Brown. http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_5285585

It took them two years to figure it out, but Denver finally figured out that all the Dline guys they acquired from the Browns were available for a reason,,
They either were underachievers or always injured..... Take your pick,,,,
As for Carr remaining in Houston or whether or not the Texans work to acquire Plummer,,, who the heck, knows,,, but I bet they are talking about it in Indy today...LOL

Then there were the few that said we blew it by letting that fat slob go
Boy, they sure helped the Donks make the playoffs, didn't they

But, Warren says he has spent a lot of time in reflection this offseason. He has matured. He is a different person. He plans to show up at camp as a new man.

I predicted this happening as soon as they all went over there.
Why would they change? I've always thought that they were a 3-4 defensive line, but with 4 players. They don't do anything more than eat up blockers.
Bet they're missing Trevor Pryce big time by now.

Once they fired Patterson I figured we would see this.

I have to admit that the petty side of me gloated when Patterson got fired after he rubbed all the former Browns in our face.
We were right about those guys. Now a dude like Ekuban can help a team. He has solid rush ability. The problem was his salary here, and the switch to the 3-4.
In the end, none of those players (with the exception of Meyers IMHO) could have helped this team. They simply didn't fit. I damn well know none of them could do the job that Washington did here, and despite opinion, he had a pretty good year.

In hindsight, throwing in Myers instead of a sixth round pick was a pretty big mistake. He could have helped out our line a lot more than a LB that's out of the league.

The way I remember it, Brown was going to be moved to OLB. That probably would have worked as well as Lang.

Isn't Brown like 280 or 290? That's too big for an OLB, usually. Adalus Thomas is the exception.

The idea was first heard on this board (ok, the other board) and riddled with numerous bullets. Then some yuck in the media brought it up, and was soundly shot down. Then someone in the organization brought it up, and we gaped at the thought. Then Brown declined our offer and became a free agent after waiting us out.
His knees were far too gone to become a 'backer or even a hybrid DE for us. He's since gone on to miss more time. It was past time for him to move on.
I vividly remember Joe Gibbs flying down to have Dinner with Brown. They talked at how feverishly they were going to get a deal done.......
Then they saw his medical records. The next comment? We'll get back to you.

...actually, that's not funny. Courtney is one of the true class act, nice guys in the league. He's a tallented football player that has had a lot of bad breaks and his situation doesn't deserve to be laughed at.
There, that's my good deed for '07. Can't wait for '08.

Never happen? Lazy did play well enough in 2005 to get that big contract.

There's a difference between laughing at a player (see Fat Penny) and laughing at the irony of a situation (Brown).
The irony was how hard the 'Skins were going after him, right up until they saw how he was damaged goods, then went all cold fish on him.
I don't feel the least bit remorseful for giggling at the irony. There's nothing to feel bad about.

...and apparently, it'll take those know-nothing schmoes at espin 3 years to get it. Remember how they were all laughing at us, saying that Phil got hosed by Denver in his rookie outing? The whole time, I was laughing at them, saying, "tick, tick, tick... it's only a matter of time.."
Myers was the only one I thought we might miss. As for the rest, it's still good riddance. Happy to be without 'em, happy they're someone else's cap headache now.

By the way, happy birthday, Dam!

When he was DRAFTED,his speed and weight would have made him playing OLB in the 3/4 a distinct possibility. But after they put that much weight on his frame? Not gonna happen.
JMHO
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Sure, but since we weren't a 3-4 team, he was drafted as a 4-3 DE. Of course it wouldn't have mattered since his body was a train-wreck waiting to happen.
The only real talk about moving Brown to OLB was when RAC first took over. I couldn't believe they were even considering it. In fact, I still can't
