I don't attend many games anymore, either. This being one of the reasons..

I can see everything better on TV anyway. And it seems like CBS only has two types of fans anymore. The fans that are obnoxiously drunk, and cause problems, or the people who can't even get up and cheer.

Neither one of those types of people are fun to be around, IMO.

Yeah, this and work are why I don't go to games like I used to.

i think if you immediately head out of there without confronting or talking to cops, you're probably guilty of something yourself. but honestly i dunno. who knows what really happened.

You don't have kids, do you? As a dad, I can think of a LOT of reasons to do exactly as he did.

- no cops in the area to go to
- the guy and his son are Jets fans surrounded by a bunch of the attacker's drunk buddies (no external support in sight)
- his kid was already hurt and crying (not exactly the best time to pick a fight)
- his kid is only 8-years old and probably frightened (even if he wasn't hurt).

The "ugly" drunk is a fixture at Browns games (as it is at most NFL sites, unfortunately). I have no trouble at all buying this story because, through the years, I've seen drunken fools wreck plenty of game day experiences with boorish behavior.

i'll clean up my post.

as a dad myself, i agree with you 100%. the guy did exactly what he should have done by not escalating the situation even more and winding up in the back of a cop car or in an ambulance with his son. with the mob mentality of fans i've seen at muni, it was best to duck, cover and run.

funny thing is, everyone says this was an inexcusable act, yet many of you are coming up with excuses.

I'm posting this for my Dad - who saw the situation first-hand. I was not there:

Quote:

I'm sorry -- I was there and this did not happen the way it is being reported. I followed this man -- who was very drunk, for about 50 yards and he was stumbling the whole way. He got right to the beginning of the Muny lot and stepped off the curb -- as he did -- he tumbled over and landed on the boy. Many fans rushed to the aid of the boy to help him out -- the drunken man just laid there. After we made sure the boy was all right, we checked on the man as well. He was crying -- some people finally got him up off the ground. A number of us assured the boy's father -- who had every right to be angry -- that it was not done maliciously -- the man was drunk and just fell. I am not condoning what the drunken man did -- but the boy was not tackled by the man -- he just stumbled and fell. I'm glad to hear that the boy is all right.

He already called News Channel 5 and gave them this info - we'll see if the news media is interested in the facts, or in the story...

There are two sides to every story. Funny how many people bite on the first one hook, line. and sinker.

that is exactly what i figured happened. my exact theory was that some drunken moron was running, not looking, and just wiped the kid out. he's still at fault and should apologize, but it's not like he picked this kid out and said he was going to railroad him.

i love how people just tag the entire city as classless. even if this was true as reported, and even if it is the most horrible thing to happen in a stadium, it's one freaking person. most games i have been too i have always had a good time with the opposing fans. friendly chirping back and forth, good clean fun. outside of the christmas eve massacre in 05, there were browns fans and steeler fans going at it all game, but the fighting with mutual to all parties.

i just don't believe this story was bspn is reporting it. very hard to believe.

The story was on fox in columbus, the headline was, browns fans attack young jets fan, or something to that extent

Oh, I agree 100% then followed by the Raiders. We, unfortunately are 3rd on that list in my opinion. It is quite sad and normally alcohol fueled. I'm a happy drunk, no worries about me turning into a jerk

Alcohol actually helps you.

You go from a jerk to a good guy.

This certainly sounds like a much more plausible story than to think someone's going to take down an 8 year old kid on pavement just for wearing a jets jersey. So who's the bigger jerks here, the drunk for being so drunk he can't walk upright or the family who apparently embellished this story to the TV station?

Well, just because it's the version of a story you'd like to believe doesn't make it so. I don't know Lyuokdea, and I have no reason to think he's lying, but I also know that, on an internet message board, it's easy to make things up. *cough* CoachB *cough*

I certainly think it's more plausible that the guy was just drunk and fell into the kid. But that doesn't mean that, just because someone says "yeah, I know someone who saw it happen that way", that's the way it is.

I don't know what happened... I just think there are too many inconsistencies to the story that the adult maliciously tackled the kid... first of all, why? second, nobody did ANYTHING? third, there were no details in the original story from the kids mom to how the boy got away from the malicious attacker.. just that he got up and his dad fled with him...

I do not know Lyuokdea either. I have read what he has written for years and he never write things that make him sound like he is larger than life or makes outlandish statements.

I know that I am naive and usually assume people are who they say they are. In his case he has always come across as to me as a real person so I believe what he says.

What I'm not sure of is his dad's account of what happened. The saying that there is two sides to every story and the truth is somewhere in the middle usually applies. I hope the truth lies exactly where his dad says it does so because any alternative makes me sick.

I don't believe I authored anything that suggested "factual", just "plausible", and you even quoted it and agreed. So what was the point of this post?

Lyuokdea is my brother, and the story which my dad told is 100% true.

That story is more believable. I find it hard to believe that there were thousands of people who probably saw the incident, and that if he did it intentionally, that not a single person did anything about it.

Well, honestly - not sure if it was on here or not - I saw a picture of the kids ankle. Dear Heavens - I dove for a basketball and had worse "injuries".

I've tripped (accidentally) my daughter playing ball and she was worse off.

Hell, I've walked through briars and brambles deer hunting - and gotten stuck! YES, STUCK - to the point I couldn't go forward anymore, OR backward. Wrapped around my neck.........had to yell for my cousins kid to come "undo" me.

I just think that maybe the family made a bit too much of this.

I've also found it odd that the mom (who wasn't there) is the spokesperson for the family and is the one describing the events..... has anybody heard from the dad?

I think it was just a pissed off mom who was trying to vent and twisted things to make them sound worse than they were.

I have seen many times Browns fans come to the defense of opposing teams fans when someone was being a jerk to them, and that was groen ups. I refuse to believe that no one would have done anything if someone intentionally tackled an eight year old kid.

I was at the Pepto Bismal game sitting on the south east endzone. There was a Bengal couple sitting directly next to us. The whole game there was a group that was picking on the guy and girl. Near the end of the game the guy was talking to some other people behind us and one of the obnoxious group members picked up his girl and started walking away with her on his shoulders and I saw not only the bengal guy but about 15 Browns fans swarm on him and put the browns fan in his place.

So no I can't believe a guy intentionally tackled a young boy and no one did anything.

I think i seen that kid and his dad tailgating in the muni before the game, both had jets jerseys on.. My friend was gonna do the a-hole chant at the dad but seen there was alittle kid there and didnt. I too advised him it wouldn't be cool to do that with a young kid around. I guess my point is that we should no our limits and our do's and dont's when it comes to browns football.

Well, while it is admirable that your friend had some sort of morals and decide not to do the A hole chant when he saw the kid,the fact that he was going to do it at all means that really he deserved the A hole chant directed towards him. When has it become acceptable to just randomly call someone a name like that just because he roots for a different team? If the guy was running his mouth,or trying to flaunt it then OK maybe he deserves an A hole chant, but otherwise its pretty much a douchebag move.

Since when did grown adults wasting hundreds of dollars and 4 hours of their Sunday cheering and hollering over a bunch of millionaires playing a game have anything to do with maturity? Mature people go to museums on Sunday afternoons.

Going after a kid doesn't have anything to do with maturity, that's simply a lack of morality, class, and intelligence.

Thanks for sharing... I saw the video of the mom of the child and just really wish that she wouldn't have gone to the media... this whole thing has gotten blown WAY out of proportion... though she has said that her family was also called names and had food throw at them, which I can easily see from some drunk idiots.

I was really surprised when this first came out and as others have said didn't think things added up with no one calling the police over and the dad or other fans not going ballistic on the drunk...

My wife and I had beer spilled on us due to a stupid Jets fan. He wasn't even drunk - just stupid - yelling and screaming and leaning over us.

I never once thought to call the media, or send a letter to the newspaper.

Maybe I should have?

I was calling B.S. from the get go, why wouldnt the dad have something to say about this, he was actually there, not the mom. I think she wanted sympathy and free tickets for something that was blown way out of porportion. Shame on her for making up a story. This was total bullcrap.

I remember when i was 12 in 1992 i went to a baltimore orioles and cleveland indians game at camden yards. Me and my older brother both indians fans were dropped off by my mother who lived in maryland, ugh..

The indians tied the game at 1 apiece in the top of the ninth and my brother and i were jumping up and down in celebration. As i sat down a drunken guy in his 40's gave me a kick to the head, not a hard kick but a good enough one to let me no and i quote what he said, u cant root for cleveland in baltimore.

I just stayed quiet the remainer of the game, we lost in ten, thanks eric plunk. real classy baltimore fans i tell ya. I didnt complain or turn him in, why i dont no maybe i should of. But this was done on purpose,. not by accident.
