sometimes there are 7 inductees because there are also 2 senior candidates every year that have their own separate entry.

There isn't nearly enough support for Curtis Martin in here. I'm not saying he'd be in my final five, but if Jerome Bettis is in the discussion, then Martin should be, too. That isn't a slam on Bettis, either.
Though, compared to Bettis:
- Curtis Martin rushed for 439 more career yards - Curtis Martin rushed for only one less touchdown - Curtis Martin caught 284 more catches - Curtis Martin caught for 1,880 more yards - Curtis Martin caught 7 more touchdowns - Curtis Martin fumbled 12 less times - Curtis Martin missed 8 less career games
Yeah, Bettis has the ring, but Willie Parker did the work that year. Bettis had a great prime, but Martin's entire career was his prime, and he was ridiculously consistent.

He would have to be inducted by satellite and his bust set aside with OJ in a special section in the latrine.

Hell, present his to him while he is in a latrine.

speaking of latrines.
I think they should let Art Modell into the HOF. No, I don't think they should induct him.
I think they should put his image on the urinal cakes in the bathrooms so everyone that goes there can pee on him.

I think Jerome Bettis has to be in the consideration for a first ballot guy. He is the number 5 rusher of all time....and the only "big back" on that top rushers list....he played at over 250lbs most of his career...next is Jim Brown at #9 at 230lbs
None of the others normally tipped over 220lbs.
All that means is Bettis yards normally came right up the gut....hence why his yards per carry is lower than many of them....there are not many 50 yarders on Jeromes resume....he got all his yards 3 yards at a time....Guy pounded the rock over and over and over again for most of his career.

I agree that Bettis should get in eventually, but there are many more deserving candidates that should get in before him.

He was great when he played for the Rams. By the time he got to the Steelers he was worn down but hopefully that won't keep him from being considered for the Hall eventually. I wonder who from the Rams he'd choose to speak at Canton? Maybe his coach back then, Chuck Knox. What a great Rams coach he was. One day "The Battering Ram" will see is bust in bronze.

To me, Bettis belongs in the "very good" category, but not quite HOF level. Now, if he were to get in, I wouldn't be too surprised. He certainly had some great stats and some great years. I'm just not sure, in my mind at least, that he rises to HOF level.

Are we sure there is not a little anti Steeler bias seeping in?
The guy is the # 5 all time rusher......only 3 of the top 10 RB's are not in..(#4)Curtis Martin, (#5)Jerome Bettis...and (#9)Marshall Faulk
and all 3 are just becoming eligible (Martin in 2012)
I think all 3 are first ballot players.

No, I don't care at all who he played for. And, I don't want to take anything away from him. I'm just not sold on the fact that he belongs in the HOF. JMHO.

I agree... not sure he'll be a first ballot guy (though won't be surprised if he is) but he for sure will get in one day... not the flashiest guy, but his longevity will get him in.

3 things will hurt Bettis IMHO.
He was never a receiver compared to the others.
His yards/carry was only 3.9.
Despite his size, he was never a tremendous threat at the goal line, scoring only 91 TDs rushing for his career.

In front of a crowd that was estimated by NFL analysts in attendance to be "80% - 90% Steeler fans" (as evident by the influx of "Terrible Towels" seen waving in the crowd), Pittsburgh would go on to defeat the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL, 21-10. Bettis rushed for 43 yards on 14 carries; an average of 3.1 yards per carry.

I think the fact that he was not the receiver the others were shows even more how impressive his stats are....he was a one trick pony....between the tackles...thats all...there was no...should we cover him outside......you pretty much knew right were he was going to be running...and he did it anyway.
His 3.9 per carry also goes to running between the tackles in traffic....not a lot of long gainers padding his stats...it was all blue collar running.
and as for 91 rushing TD's compared to the others...91 puts him 10th all time in the history of the NFL.......1 through 12 are all already in the hall (where eligible..Martin, Faulk and LT are the only ones not in yet)
I guess I just don't see where top 5 in rushing yards...and top 10 in rushing TD's puts him only in the Hall of good category

I'm not really sure what qualifies a player for the Hall of Fame.
I assume they should have the top - 5 players in rushing yards. So Bettis is in.
I'd like to see Terrell Davis in the HOF. Possibly the greatest playoff career of any running back, and overall great beginning to an unfortunately short career. I don't really care too much about what goes on in Canton though.
I'd love it if they had clips of highlights for all of the HOF players. That would make for a great website.

I think a trip to the HOF would change your mind. That place is awesome. Your wish for film clips will be granted there as well.

I've actually been there before. Being...16? at the time I wasn't particularly impressed. I didn't know who anyone was. Give me a website with highlight reels of the games best players and I'll visit it. I'm part of the high stimulus, don't feel like driving to Canton, generation. I could see if you are older and recognize a majority of the players how it would be a really neat place. I imagine once I am 40 or 50 it will be pretty great to stroll through.

Top ten in rushing yards, and top ten in TDs belong in the hall. He should be in. PS - If they have 2 spots for Senior inductees, Ray Guy is a lock. ' I can't believe he is not in already. The man perfected the coffin corner.
