Defensive back Joe Haden has been named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Month for November.

Cleveland Browns defensive back Joe Haden has been named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for the month of November, the league announced today.

Haden registered 15 tackles, seven passes defensed, three interceptions and one tackle on special teams as the Browns posted a 2-2 record during the month. His three interceptions led all rookies and he became the first Brown to notch an interception in three straight games in his first NFL season since Bernie Parrish in 1959. He is also the first Brown to record interceptions in three consecutive contests since Eric Turner in 1994. He has a team-leading four interceptions on the season and is third among all NFL rookies and tied for seventh in the league. His 101 interception return yards rank second among rookies and third overall.

Haden is the first Brown to be selected as NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month since the award was established in 1996 and third to win an NFL Rookie of the Month award since 1999. Joe Thomas was the last player selected when he garnered the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month award for the month of November in 2007.

With all the talk about LeCon James, it's great to talk about a kid that is getting the job done in Cleveland. Just goes to show that the 40 times et al at the Combine only hold so much water. The key question has to be: "Is the guy a good football player?" In Haden's case, the answer is a resounding "yes." Congratulations Joe.

we do have more positives to discuss then negatives...

Lebron aside,, things like Joe Haden winning this award and Payton Hillis being nominated again for the FEDeX Ground player of the week.. Guys like Jake Delhomme for his sensible approach to things. A young man like Colt McCoy handling things the way he does... and being a fine QB.. Josh Cribbs, Phil Dawson, etc etc..

We have plenty of good stories,, it's a damn shame that only the LBJ stuff gets keyed on...

As for the award that Haden just won,, I don't know,

The Fedex ground and air awards seem to be voted on by the fans...

Just goes to show,..... that although 40 times are a good indicator of a players potential.

Film is still the best tool for a scout or GM.

On film at Florida, at times Haden looked like a man playing with boys and could take away their opponents first option.
Playing off of the fact that the QB's were staying away from him, this aloud him to make plays behind the line of scrimmage on the ball carrier or QB.

It would appear that the film doesn't lie

I don't see him going back to sub packages.

He is a starter now.

you think he's going to get D-ROY over TJ Ward who has started the entire year and may end up leading the Browns in tackles?

(imagine if Ward could catch like Haden, he'd have 3-4 pick-6's this year and it'd be a runaway)

Suh has the DROY locked up and for good reason. Suh is a total monster.

Sadly they both will lose out to Suh, who has like 8 sacks and a pick 6 IIRC to his resume thus far.

There's no way he'd have a shot at it unless he just balls out in December, especially considering Ward will take some votes from him. Not to mention, neither of them have any real shot with how dominant Suh has been. Anyway, it's pretty remarkable to have two rookies that would even merit that consideration. Certainly speaks highly of the front office.

yeah, I do realize that Suh will win because he has had a monster year and was the more prominent player coming into the year as well.

however, the point you have above is the one I wanted to demonstrate (hence the post)

Suh should win. He's a top five player at his position regardless of time in the league.

This surprised me a little. Didn't Anthony Henry have about 10 picks his rookie year? Maybe none of those were 3 games in a row?

Anthony Henry game log

He had two 3-pick games and a 2-pick game (as well as two 1-pick games.) None of the games were consecutive.

I'm glad we have Haden ....... but a DL of Rogers, Rubin and Suh would be devastating.

yep...that SEC never produces any runningbacks, receivers, QB's and generally has weak coaching staffs at every school.

Yes he was.

I'm just salivating over the thought of having a truly ferocious DL that could both rush the passer and stuff the run on each and every down.

I recall it as being way earlier, we could have used him. Still could use a really special blitz monster like Suh.

Actually I think Rogers is not like having Smith against the run. Losing him and Fujita for awhile has really hurt our run defense.

Rogers is still learning to play the DE position, but I wish we had two # 1s this next draft, because we really need to add something @ DE.
Bryan Schaefering has done okay, but really hasn't elevated his game with all the playing time he has seen this season.

I guess you might say that I had higher hopes/expectations.
He has missed a couple of big tackles in the past two weeks and looks like the season has been wearing on him.
I hope he comes up with a big play or two this week in Miami to prove me wrong.

Nick Fairley , Rubin and Rogers/Coleman

Just a question:

Haden had another really good game today, with a pass knocked away in the end zone, and another interception. How long before teams just abandon trying to complete passes against him and look at the other side?
