Anybody interested?

Main Site

127 Hours is a 2010 biographical film directed by Danny Boyle. The film stars James Franco as real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston who became trapped by a boulder in Robbers Roost, Utah for more than five days in 2003.
...
127 Hours met with critical acclaim. Review aggregate Rotten Tomatoes reports that 92% of critics have given the film a positive review based on 132 reviews, with an average score of 8.4/10, and a 91% rating under "Top Critics" based on 32 reviews. The Rotten Tomatoes consensus is: "As gut-wrenching as it is inspirational, 127 Hours unites one of Danny Boyle's most beautifully exuberant directorial efforts with a terrific performance from James Franco." Richard Roeper of The Chicago Sun-Times gave the film an "A" and said he believed Franco deserved an Oscar nomination for his perfomance, as well as calling the film "one of the best of the year". Roger Ebert awarded the film four out of four stars and said, "127 Hours is like an exercise in conquering the unfilmable."

(Wiki Link)

I want to go see this so freaking bad. It doesn't hurt I'm a big James Franco fan anyway.

In case someone sees this before I can, post your thoughts. I don't think there are many spoilers to be said since most will know how it ends (or will remember once they hear the story again), but I'll keep it out of the initial post.

I am not going to a movie that is 127 hours long, thats too long to sit there, and my Twizzlers will all be gone long before that.

Other than that, sounds like a good one, sorta like Castaway, one person the entire time, which I'm sure it's not, since there were searchers out looking for him.

I think there is a lot of setup before the accident. And during, we'll see a ton of flashbacks to his childhood and stuff. They say the book, which I'm about to buy, jumps back and forth a lot. It's not just a documentary on how to escape this situation.

The book covers a lot of history, and I'm sure they'll show it.

Being a guy who spent a few years volunteering for Mountain Rescue - the story is pretty appalling. I just hope all the stupid things he did aren't glorified, we have enough deaths/injuries on our mountains.

I don't know the whole story but I love your response. This isn't something to be taken lightly. You put others lives at risk.

Well, I finally got to see it this past weekend. The movie stopped playing in the Chicago area just before X-Mas. Our trip to Indianapolis to see my sister for her birthday gave me another city to search. Sure enough, it was playing at a trendy art theather not too far from her home.

Wow. Very intense movie.

As juiced as I was to see it, I think it lived up to my own hype. And I had raised the bar quite high.

We all know how the movie ends, just like watching the 'Titanic', but the detailed journey is the reward. And this was rewarding. I got choked up pretty bad in once scene and then really, really teared up in another. I'm convinced even a blender would tear up too.

I didn't find "the scene" to be gratuitous at all. It was more surreal than anything. As a viewer I wanted to ask, "did that really just happen?" And I'm sure he had a similar moment just seconds after too.

I wouldn't classifiy him as a hero but tough as nails. He got out of an impossible situation most would have given up long before.

James Franco will get nominated for an Oscar for sure. Won't win. Colin Firth, from the 'The King's Speech', will win.

It's on my 'to see' list, but, considering the gruesome turn the true story takes, I am not really excited to see how it is done in the film. I'm guessing it won't be for the squeamish . . .

Well, it really isn't that long of a scene....maybe 3 minutes at best. And it's very clear when to look away it you want.

127 Hours got 6 Oscar Nominations this morning – Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing, Original Score, & Original Music. They won’t win for anything, but 6 noms is really good!

http://oscar.go.com/nominations/film

Of the films nominated, I've seen 127 Hours (****), Toy Story 3 (****), Inception (***), & Iron Man 2 (*). I really want to see The King's Speech. My wife is dying to see The Social Network. Well, 33 days until the awards.

I'll post up an awards prediction thread when it gets closer.

The stars are my rating (out of 5). I'll probably have to rewatch 127 Hours and Inception to make sure they aren't 5's. Toy Story 3 was great, but not a 5-star flick to me, I reserve that for all-time greats. And Iron Man 2.....pffft....horrible!

I pay no attention to awards shows or the awards themselves.

I have seen way to many "Oscar" winning films only to think they were utter crap. I'm convinced it's like art, some people enjoy it, and some people pretend to enjoy to look/sound important, I put award voters in with the latter.

Just curious, have you seen Tangled? Easily the best Disney film I've seen in years ... the movie title and trailer just don't do it justice. I'm really surprised it didn't get a nomination for best Animated Movie over How to Train your Dragon and The Illusionist. I haven't seen TS3, so I don't know how it compares.

And back to the original thread ... to be fair to Iron Man 2, it was only nominated for visual effects, not acting, story or anything that actually matters.

They shouldn't even bother having the animated category if a Pixar movie is out there to compete with. Toy Story 3 will win.

We have Tangled in the Netflix Q along w/ How to Train Your Dragon and The Illusionist. Makes absolutely no sense that there aren't 5 films nominated in this category.

Here's a movie from the awards race I think most down-to-Earth types will like. 'Winter's Bone.' Set in the Ozarks in rural southern Missouri. VERY powerful film and the lead is up for best actress. Guy who plays her uncle is up for best supporting actor. Funny because he also plays Kenny Powers' brother from Eastbound and Down. You'd barely be able to tell it's the same guy.

Work, kids and being back in school have killed our movie viewing. I loved Inception, Toy Story 3 and Winter's Bone but am really looking forward to seeing all the others nominated for Best Picture.

I have not seen Tangled, but I would like to. I'm waiting for DVD at this point. TS3 was the first movie we took our munchkin to see in a theater. Didn't take her to see Tangled because she's not familiar with the characters, so I wasn't sure if she would be engaged with them.

Toy Story 3 was actually very good (especially since sequels usually suck ass), and it was intense. To the point that my husband said he damn near got choked up. And I've only seen him choke up twice in 8 years - the day we got married and the day our daughter was born.

Geez. Should prepare her to see Schindler's List.

TS3 gets pretty bleak and dark in the middle, folks . . .

Yeah, that's the rumors I heard about it, and pretty much why I didn't go see it. Heard it was geared more for teens and older kids who had grown up on it in the 90's.

I saw the previews for Tangled, and thought it was going to be another "Emperor's New Groove" ... a featured length Saturday morning cartoon. I couldn't of been more wrong. It was everything that the Disney movies were in the early 90's. Right mix of witty humor, slapstick, action and emotion. The characters were really well developed and likable ... and most of all, the songs were really good! That's what has always made Disney movies! Loveable characters and great songs! They finally went back to that formula and made an amazing movie ... to top it off, I thought the animation was just as good, if not better than Pixar's best work (granted, I haven't seen what they did in TS3).
