Should be a good battle.

Seems like a good enough place to put this... Congrats to Toledo WR/KR Eric Page for being named 2010 Walter Camp All-American 1st Team as a KR yesterday! Kid's just 53 catches shy of the school record - as a sophomore! Should be a great two+ years for both he and the Rockets.
And we're up to ten people in the bowl pick em league - everyone feel free to sign up. As Punch said, winner gets nothing... except pride and glory. lol

Pretty much - but the dude's good lol. Something like 14.5 YPC as a freshman, 11.5 this year. And again... seems like a good place for me to brag about my school a bit... ****************************************************************************** Haden brothers continuing careers at Toledo Posted by Adam Silverstein | Posted in Football | December 12, 2010 Former Florida Gators cornerback Joe Haden‘s two brothers – Jordan and Josh – have decided to play football next year for the Toledo Rockets rather than in Gainesville, FL as initially planned.Safety Jordan Haden was a member of Florida’s heralded 2010 recruiting class but decided to transfer in August after finding that the Gators were not a good fit for him. Running back Josh Haden, who transferred out of Boston College last year, was expected to become the next member of his family to wear the orange and blue with a plan to join the team in January. Toledo head coach Tim Beckman was the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Bowing Green under former Gators head coach Urban Meyer from 2001-02. The school is also just over 100 miles away from where Cleveland Browns CB Joe Haden plays professionally. http://www.onlygators.com/12/12/2010/haden-brothers-continuing-careers-at-toledo/************************************************************************** I'm a pretty big fan of the Hadens these days

Are we gonna have to listen to Herbie and Brent every night ? That kinds gets really old fast,....
Let alone the matchup is bad,...
We need a playoff. This "could be" a 7-10 seeded barnburner in a 16 game set,...instead it is a 10-19 no-meaning-game,....

In a 16 game set, they'd still be in it playing # 7,.... and it would be worth watching. Tonite, we just sit here on a mesage board and catfight about it,.... D-1 (FBS) college football is the only sport in all of undergraduate work that doesn't have a playoff.... It's disgusting. And YOU know it,...

I don't know it though. I'm one of those rare guys that likes quirks.
No system is perfect. NCAA Men's BBall is a joke in that it's about who gets hot in March, not necessarily the best team that also peaked at the end of the year. FBS is closer to that IMO.
Obviously, there are issues. I think FCS scheduled teams should knock a BCS score (so you can schedule it, but there is risk). I think BCS schools should have at least 10 BCS games on their schedule (less padding cupcakes). And, I think there should be a '+1' in years when there are more than 2 undefeated teams, and not there in years when there are only 2.
but, that's just me. I know I'm in the minority.

There will always be complaints. There will always be a better system. And the current system, whatever it is, will always suck.
No matter how much people insist the change they like will make it better.

The only thing I dislike about the playoff system is that people insist that it will solve things or that it is better. It won't and it isn't...beyond opinion. If someone says they want to replace a broken system with another broken system it's a different discussion. But the idea that it works and it would be better...nah.

It would be better than what we have now, from the viewpoint that you absolutley cannot lose a regular season game. And, even when you don't, i.e. TCU,...you CANNOT be the "National Champion."
It is a travesty.
And comparing the NCAA Basketball tournament ? GMAB,...at least it is set up. Who cares who is "hot." It's always the same teams anyway. And at least you get a chance to prove you should move on. You don't have that opportunity in college football. Your regular season will destroy you.

I disagree and we aren't going to agree, but here goes.
It isn't a travesty. TCU through it's success has set their program up to be invited to join the Big East and have a better chance at being included (though not necessarily as Cinci went undefeated in the regular season and was left out without much thought/debate last year).
anyway, the regular season is a playoff. you cannot lose a game or you leave things to chance (just like you can't lose a game in March Madness). if you go undefeated, then the tiebreaker really comes down to SOS (the problem is that sometimes it comes down to perceived SOS instead of real SOS).
Oklahoma, Florida State, USC who try to schedule multiple OOC top teams each year are best suited to win those tiebreakers. SEC teams have also recently become suited to win that tiebreaker on the validation that they have won the past 4 NC's with 3 different teams (and a 4th in it this year). So, their conference is their SOS.
It's not necessarily fully fair to TCU, Boise, Utah, BYU in that they cannot guarantee their own conference SOS. But, as we have seen with all 4 of those schools, their success allows for upward mobility in conference (each has made a move in the past year). Also, they can schedule OOC games against a couple decent BCS schools and if they go undefeated make a run in some years (think Boise in 2007 with today's mentality).
the system isn't perfect, but no system is perfect and a 16 team tourney wouldn't solve that. one year a 7-5 Big East (or other conference) team that has an auto-invite to the tourney would go on a run and completely invalidate the entire thing. some would like it better, but others wouldn't.
one thing for sure, I wouldn't have cared about the Auburn v. Bama game this year because it wouldn't have affected anything if Auburn lost. They would still have gone to the SEC champ game, still would have beat SoCar and still would have got the SEC slot in the playoffs. Less weekends from Sept - Nov would matter for the sake of a couple games in December. No thanks.

I wasn't necessarily only referring to TCU,...Auburn and Oregon are rightfully in the Title Game, as they are also undefeated.
The travesty I speak of is is that we don't have an actual playoff setup, like basketball (or even college baseball.)
I agree the season is a year long "playoff" so-to-speak, but when you have more than 2 unbeatens, or more likely, 5 or six teams with only one loss, we rely on a computer system and a bunch of bias pollsters to give us "a result."
I don't really mind all that "now" because it usually always works out OK. But there is always a better way. That's all I'm saying.

I would argue that it is to hard to say if it ever really works out.
Look, college basketball teams play 25 regular season games +/-... most of your good teams play darn near half a dozen out of conference games against respectable opponents, then they play a lot of the good teams in their conference twice, then they have a full blown conference tournament where they get to play the best teams in their conference at least a second, if not a third time... by tournament time, between the overlap of out of conference games and the repetitive depth of the conference schedule with the home-and-homes, etc, you have a very good idea who the best teams are going into the tournament...
In football the schedule is so limited, most teams have 1 decent out of conference game, they don't even play everybody in their conference once, their might be a conference championship game but there certainly isn't a tournament. At the end of the day you have a team from the Pac 10 who is undefeated and a team from the SEC... where are the common opponents? where is the web of out of conference games to know that maybe the 1 loss team that endured the Big 10 schedule is really better? or the team that had 2 tough out of conference games and lost one of them in early September because their QB was hurt isn't really the best team at the end of the year...
I just think that going through an 11 or 12 game season with very little out of conference overlap and HOPING 2 teams end up undefeated from big conferences so you can say they are the two best teams is a pretty crappy system.

Still better than the old bowl system. At least in my view, that we actually have a defined title matchup. That's my def of -- works out "OK."
How we "got" there, well, that's always up for debate,...

No replies in almost a week? People aren't watching the Insight, Texas, or Military Bowls? Anyways, nice to see the Big 10 go 2-0 in games in which Vegas and other "experts" expected them to lose....Illinois is dominating Baylor and Iowa did what Iowa normally does in bowl games (go down to the 4th qtr and pull one out)

It was even more remarkable that Iowa won considering they really only had 1 regular RB suited up, as well as missing many other key players. Didn't get to see the finish though, a little too late for me.
I think Illinois has a nice team. That Leshoure kid is a very good back. He delivers a lot of punishment.
I love this time of year. Settling down now to see what this Blackmon kid is all about.

Watching the Alamo game.
I am sure the tacky touchdown by Blackmon will be a point of conversation.
For those who did not see it, he ran along the goal line for 50 yards before going in.
classless.

GaTech v. Air Force was a good game. Iowa v. Mizzou was a good game. FIU v. Toledo as well. I liked the NC State v. WVU game as well. Game got out of hand at the end, but WV was in it in the 4th quarter before missing the FG and the last Wolfpack TD. All in all, it's been an okay bowl season so far. But really, it just started last night in fun matchups, so it's a tad early to discuss. Oh, and if DC is reading. Good showing by the ACC so far. If they could just figure out how to play Big East and C-USA teams all the time, they'd be considered a power conference

That Toledo game was such a heartbreaker. We fall asleep on both ends of the ball for the majority of the second half to almost win it at the end. That shovel pass sealed the deal. Still was a great experience and I hope I get to go to another bowl game.
