I missed getting a minor in meteo by 1 class. I do it for fun, engineering had a lot more money in it. I also have been a skywarn spotter for the NWS office out of Cleveland for 6-7 years.

This is from Cleveland weather office earlier tonight; sorry about the caps. I can not ever remember a winter storm watch that was issued for 4 days before.

Vikings-Giants game has been postponed till Monday. Giants are stuck in Kansas City and the roof of the Metrodome has too much snow on it and has begun to start leaking.

Our forecast has changed since yesterday evening.

Winter storm watch not in effect, now under winter weather advisory.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM MONDAY TO 7 AM EST TUESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PITTSBURGH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM MONDAY TO 7 AM EST TUESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

A BLAST OF ARCTIC AIR WILL CROSS THE AREA MONDAY AND TUESDAY. THE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS AND PRODUCE SNOW SHOWERS. IN ADDITION...THE STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO BRING BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND VERY COLD WIND CHILLS.

* ACCUMULATION: SNOWFALL FROM EARLY MONDAY THROUGH EARLY TUESDAY OF 2 TO 5 INCHES.

* TIMING: SNOW WILL BEGIN EARLY MONDAY.

So we went from 8 inches forecast (on Thursday's report) to 9 inches forecast (by Monday night on Friday's report) and now we are due 2-5 inches that won't START until Monday. I knew they were gonna blow this one; that it was gonna be worse than they predicted or less than they predicted.

Chattanooga:

Today: Rain showers before 7am, then a chance of rain and snow showers between 7am and 10am, then a chance of snow showers after 10am. Temperature falling to around 28 by 3pm. West wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight: A 50 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Breezy, with a west wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Brrrr...going to be a cold one at the game today. We sit outside on the patio at Buffalo Wild Wings so we can be assured of getting sound for our game.

The propane heater and stadium blankets are ready to go.

A few from our group have already wimped out....but we will still have 4-5, plus Ron, the Buffalo guy who has joined us all season long....he watches his game as there are 6 TV's on the patio, but stillo sits with us to BS.

Since Youngstown is roughly on the same track for this storm as Pittsburgh, I'll be glad if they blow it and we get far less than they originally called for.

I'm not blaming them with this storm. Given the week leading up to it, I'm surprised it's still not changing things on them....

Michelle,
on the Fox8 forecast they actually said high winds are good in that there's not as much time for the wind to pick up as much moisture as slower-moving winds. Problem is, the winds themselves will be a problem--25-35 sustained with gusts to 50.

i fear massive power outages.

the good news: the lake temp dropped from 45 F to 38 F and that will help reduce the amounts of lake effect, although we will still get some snow.

One good thing about having gas appliances is that I can always cook, whether I have electric or not.

My furnace is also one of those old models that I can control manually, so I could set it to run to generate some heat even if the blower doesn't have power.

Massive power outages shouldn't be much of a problem today. If the trees had leaves or were covered in ice, probably so.

But, gusts to 50 really shouldn't cause outages. Sure, a weak tree may fall on a power line somewhere, but every tree shouldn't fall over. Know what I'm sayin'?

It's going to get windy, though, no doubt. And, I don't like wind. At least gusts 30-40mph. It's too high and reminds of the September 2008 windstorm from Ike.

Temp went from 33 to 28 here in Youngstown in about 25 minutes.

It's starting to freeze after everything thawing. Ugh. This is going to be ugly even if we don't get a ton of snow.

That is more of what happens around here. We don't get much snow, but rain during the day with freezing temps at night can cause a big problem.

If you live on a side street in Toledo, you're screwed. Out here in Oregon they do a decent job, though.

Lol

My road gets plowed exactly 1 time per snow storm - about a week after the snow hits.

I guess I should count my blessings on where I'm at in the area then. To be fair I-75 was fine. Once I got off of it, well that's a different story.

you got that right. lake effect sucks.

monday--4-8 for everyone, more in the secondary snowbelt--medina, strongsville, brunswick, western tier corridor--I-71 or so. le band shifting in sw flow. let's say 5 for geauga.
tuesday--bands to shift to wnw or nw flow--means geauga, ashtabula will get hit.4-8 again. so let's say 10 for geauga.
wednesday--it's SUPPOSED to lighten up a bit, but after last Wed. it was worse than expected--the worst of the 3 days. let's go with 5-6 for geauga.

so, in all, geauga county should get 21 inches of snow. a lot like last week. that being said, we were able to clean some snow off sat. and some melted. so it hopefully will be fine.

i'm glad it wasn't ice/rain--mainly snow today. rather would have snow personally.

i still have nightmares about 9/16/08--ike. that sucked hard.

I'm going to guess you weren't on the stretch from around BG to 475 then? Worst stretch of snowy highway driving I've ever been on.

When I lived in Toledo I would get beyond aggravated by the folks who freaked out when there was an inch or two of snow on the ground. Couldn't stand it. Everything would grind to a halt, at least over in my neck of the woods. I'm talking "an hour to go two miles" bad.

Peen,

You remember my brother. He and his dad co-own a snow-plowing / landscaping business in the heart of the snowbelt.

Who's smarter?

The brother that's in Hawaii or the brother that has money falling from the sky?

Just a dusting of snow so far.

Maybe this mess is going to miss us.

Yeah .... probably not. It's probably gearing up to dump Lake Erie on us or something.

Down here all the snowbirds drive like it's a freezing rain any time we have an overcast day with showers. It will look like a NE Ohio winter day but it's still 70 outside. And WTH are they doing on the road at rush hour?

I'm in the Akron area, and we got quite a bit. Not sure exactly how much, but all the schools are closed and I'm staying home from work today. It would take me probably a good hour to get to work, and if it's supposed to keep up all day, it would probably take me a good hour or more to get home.

I'm not going anywhere today. I was supposed to do a training, but my munchkin has done nothing but whine and cry this morning and tell me "it hurts" But, she can't tell me what hurts. No fever or anything, no obvious injuries either. We'll wait it out until this afternoon.

Only thing I plan on doing...getting my car off the street and into my driveway. I don't have to clean off the whole car for that. Think I'm heading out to do that now...the plows are starting to come down the street.

Wow, we got almost nothing in Youngstown so far. I hope it stays that way. lol

It is bitterly cold and windy. I am going to somehow come up with a way to get this house better insulated next year. It is freezing on the south and west walls of the house where the prevailing winds come from, even after sealing windows and everything else. I put down extra throw rugs in the office, and that seems to help a bit, but I'm gonna be warm next year dammnit. lol

We've got about 5-6 inches over here in Akron. I just went out and cleaned off my car so I could get it off the street and into my driveway. Cleaned right off. Only used the ice scrapper because there was a touch of ice on the windshield right at eye level. The car will probably stay parked until tomorrow morning though.

It was chilly, but I was moving quickly, so I didn't notice it much.

i live in Kent but work in Y-town ... woke up at 5:30 to start cleaning the car off. live in an apartment. car was frozen shut. got passenger door open to start car. ice underneath snow. got car cleaned off while more snow was falling and wind was blowing. blizzard conditions. got on the road. 76 at route 43 was not too bad, but traffic was moving s l o w. 76 was down to pavement at lake milton area and Y-town has little to no snow. so it's coming this way i take it... took me an hour to get to work just because traffic was moving pretty slow on 76.

Yeah, my wife has that flu bug that's going around, and I wasn't going to chance driving my son to day care so I could take forever to get down to work. Even if the roads aren't bad, people will drive like they are.

Better safe than sorry.

I'm thinking about staying in today, too. That will give me time to shovel the driveway SLOWLY. Maybe get it done in two trips.

I'm not sure how this link will work for you guys since I have it set to my city, but you can really see the LE snow bands/globs on it.

i'm surprised akron is getting hit--the secondary snowbelt is getting it worse today and we up in geauga will get it worse tomorrow. the winds should be diminishing by tomorrow slightly. wed. we'll see improvement.

the only bad thing about parking the car in the street--if a snowplow comes by it could be buried under all that snow.

on wkyc.com they said this is a similar weather pattern that gave us a cold front in the summer of 2009.

Cuyahoga Falls/Silver Lake just threw up a parking ban so the plows don't bury anyone - which is the biggest reason why I wanted my car off the street, I knew it was coming.

Snow's still coming down and decent clip. I would expect another 4 inches by this evening and another 4 or so overnight. Just in time for me to drive to Pittsburgh in the morning...yeeehaw!
