I assume that means you're paying cash - and if so - you're doing it the right way.

Had my eye on a 32 inch for the bedroom but as of 1:00 today that went out the window as my transmission picked this day to die on me . I hate cars.

Speaking of cars - every time my son comes home from college his car has problems.....this last one cost me $1,000, 6 weeks ago it was $1200.....this last time he took my car back down so his could get worked on - battery died on him, so know I get to buy a new battery (which is almost a relief, cause those don't cost much).
The way things are going, it's good my wife and I decided to just wait for a h.d. t.v. for a couple of years.....

I used to have a car that knew every time I put a deposit in my saving account. That [censored] could not stand to see me save money and would break down every time.

I know the feeling. Trust me, I like to see my son come home from college, but here lately, and I've even told him - maybe don't come home quite as much - I can't afford it. He's come home 5 times this year (including Christmas and thanksgiving), and 3 of the times he's had to take my car back down when he goes - the other 2 times he was home long enough that we could get fixed what needed to be fixed before he left. And that is no exageration.

If there was a train from here to there, he'd be taking it.......as it is, he doesn't know how close he is to not having a car.

I bought a smaller unit for my guest bedroom and love it.
Was in Best Buys today and saw some nice big units.....probably won't be long before I decide to upgrade the media room.

Congrats! It always feels good to save up and finally get it. I want to get one for my basement, when I have a basement. I am holding off till we get a house cause ours is only 2 years old and the picture looks great. Not a HDTV plasma or anything cool though
Our honor defend, we will fight to the end, for OHIO! GO BUCKS!

I got a 50' LCD for $1500 right before Christmas. Best investment I ever made - I cannot go back to watching standard TV.

I knew it would happen but no regrets here! I got my 32" Sony LCD HD/TV in August.....right before preseason, I did not want to go one game without HD...............and had my mind made up and the money saved from working lots of OT! I paid $1,800 for the television then and it is now selling for $1,500. I am just letting you people know the prices are going down............for such great quality! I have a small house and the living room is small...........so the 32" is perfect for me! Another good thing..............more channels are picking up in HD as time goes on............but the sports is all in HD! Well I have to take that back now that I think about it................Direct TV only shows about eighty percent of the NFL Sunday Ticket in HD........and that means the worst teams do not go HD. Needless to say............not a lot of Browns games last season.........but it is going to improve as our Browns improve! Interesting to see who improves first! GO BROWNS!

Despite what you may think, Visio TV's get pretty good ratings (e.g. sound and vision magazine). No, they are not state of the technology, but excellent value for the money.
They don't have all the interactive software features of some of the more popular brands, (PIP etc) but they function well enough.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

thanks, like I said, I'd never heard of Vizio until watching the Busch race last night - and at the price they were advertising, I told my wife "has to be a low end......"......
Regardless, we're gonna be holding out for awhile.......all prices will come down the closer we get to Feb. 2009........

I've got the 50" Samsung plasma in my family room and the 42" Samsung plasma in my bedroom.
Both mounted on the walls.
If anyone is going to get a flat panel TV, you have to mount it on the wall. It looks amazing and really opens a room up. Don't even fool with a stand. Do it yourself or spend some cash to have a professional come and mount it. Looks great.

lol....in hind sight thats probably the way to do it....
i bought a 52" jvc hd-ila a little over a year ago....hd stuff looks awesome, but i only have like 10 channels.....
i mainly wanted it for the browns, but only 3 games iirc were in hd....that sucks.....the daytona 500 was sweet...
but all in all its alot of cash, and very few stations....
when hd-dvd players come down in price that will help, but it won't magically convert all the dvd's i have now....
i'll bet 4-5 years from now everything will be hd, and the dvd players will be affordable....thats the time to buy....
Attitude is everything....FEAR THE ELF!!!

I only have about 10 HD channels through DirecTV myself. Kind of sucks. And as much as the Sunday Ticket already costs, I just can't see splurging and spending extra for the HD football games too, especially when there is no guarantee the Browns will be televised in HD any given week.
But man, sports in HD is just incredible.

For plasma, wall mounting might make sense (because of their weight), but I think wall-mounted LCD TVs look weird and make wiring a hassle. I bought one of these at Staples:
http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/stores...p;cmArea=SEARCH
and put some wheels on it for some extra height. It's perfect for our 32" LCD in the bedroom. My DVD player and DirecTV box are in the space under the stand.

We bought one around a month ago. If you have cable exchange your old box for a HD box. No extra charge but the DVR is another $5. Its great because you can freeze and rewind live tv. Easy to record stuff.

I'm not a fan of wall mounting. What if you wanna hook up your Wii, PS3, or 360, cable box and DVD player? All those cords make it look like a mess, IMO. Then everything else will be on a stand anyway. Just makes more sense to me to keep it on a stand.
I'm so excited to bring my Vizio back home for spring break and have HD for a week (the idiots who run the OU cable system refuse to pass through the HD signal that Time Warner of Athens offers at no extra charge).
Yes, it's worth bringing it home for a week, that and Wii, plus I don't want it stolen.

Get the extended warrenty if you can.... something beyond two years otherwise, you may end up being very unhappy in about 2.5 years,,
Just an opinion, but based on some research I've been doing on Flat panel, HD TV's etc,,, seems that there is some kinda problem with them that shows it's ugly head in about 2.5 years,,,
Just ask when you go to buy it,,,, At Sam's there isn't anyone that will be able to help you,,, so go elsewhere like Circuit City or Best Buys and get some info first....

Better yet, go to Costco. They have a LIFETIME return policy.
No joke, I could come back 20 years from now and say it broke and get a new TV for the price of the old one. It's certainly not ethical and Costco keeps track of how many times you do that (I personally won't, but I've read stories of people abusing the policy), but if you do it once it may be enough let you sleep easily at night.

That's why you run the cables behind the wall.
Aldamon, if I bought a flat panel of any type, I'd wall mount it. I just think it looks really nice. But everyone's different. As long as you are happy with your setup that's all that matters. Enjoy!
