Andy is done for the year. There goes one of our top players AND a valuable trade chip.

The Cavaliers said that Andy was their 1 guy they would not trade.

Hickson could join him, I suppose, if he gets his head out of his ass.

Other than that ...... there's not much I would worry about trading/keeping. I don't see a guy that we build around who is young enough to be great when the rest of the team gets to the good level.

Manny Harris has looked solid.

Christian Eyenga is ridiculously raw. I mean he's at least 2-3 years from being a NBA bench guy. The boy is crazy atheltic though.

It was nice to see them get out and run tonight. Inexperience got the best of them in the end, but I could live with watching them lose if they play the way they did tonight. Harris looked good, JJ actually got involved and had a great game (23 pts, 17 boards). They started to settle for bad shots in the last few minutes and thats why they lost, but they were in the game until the end. That's all I'm looking for...a team that competes.

I hope proponents of tanking the season are happy, because what they got last night is what they're going to get on most every night. Does anybody seriously think that all it will take is a top-5 pick to turn it all around?

Can't wait to hear people say "well no wonder LeBron left...look how bad they are without him". Three of the players who saw time for the Cavs last night played a full season or more with LeBron.

I knew we'd lose, I'm not delusional.

But when I woke up and read online the Cavs lost 112-57 I could only shake my head. This is an abortion... then I read what LeDouche "tweeted" to the world - where's Jeff Gillooly when you need him.

It's time for the owner to say/do something. I'm not expecting a trade for Carmelo - but to sit by and say nothing while your team loses at a historic pace and historic margins is completely unacceptable. You were visible in the good times - time for you to step up in the bad times.

I blame myself for getting hooked early on with this team.

Maybe I could understand the willingnness to lose, and have the worst record, to get the first pick in the draft, but in the NBA that is not for certain.

I can't even put into words how retarded James comes off with that Twitter post...

Karma? Really?

He wants to talk about Karma?

I don't believe in Karma, because by now, Cleveland should have like 300 titles because of it...

No way. Lebron is awesome, that tweet was awesome, and the Caveliers are pathetic. We are seeing this year what we always knew - the Cavs were utterly dependent on Lebron and now they go from being one of the best teams in the league to one of the worst after losing him. That's hilarious. And you guys blame Lebron for getting out of that siituation? The Cavs are a joke, always were a joke, only now it's out in the open now that they don't have Lebron to hide behind.

Please.

It proves nothing about the previous Cavs teams.

Shaq, Z, West, and Varejo (IR) are gone...along with leBoob. That's a HUGE chunk of minutes to be replaced. Its not like the entire team minus leBoob is still here, healthy, and trying their best. Go ahead, pick any team in the NBA and remove 4-5 of their best 7 players and see what happens. Please, that's so dumb.

Of course they're getting bombed on a nightly basis.

Put Shaq, Z, West and a healthy Varejo in the lineup and see what would happen. They might not be a ton better, but a lot better than they are now.

Further, right now this team has no one except Hickson down low .... and he's still a spotty player.

The Lakers had almost double the points in the paint as the Cavs. Not one of our starters for the game had double digits. They ran to the middle wait distain, and then hit every outside and 3 point shot to boot. The Lakers had an obscene 40 defensive rebounds.

Oh so we should strive for mediocrity. You must really not watch a lot of basketball. You have NO CHANCE of being a NBA finals champion without a superstar. The Detroit Pistons were an anamolly like trent dilfer was for the ravens.

Maybe 2 top 5 picks might start to do it.

This team appears to be a long, long way away from competing.

However ..... if they use their trade exception, and grab a top player in the draft, along with whatever scraps we get from Maimi's picks ..... (and I'm not really sure when those picks come to us) maybe we might wind up with a team with 3 solid players as early as next year.

I really hope we can into trade talks with denver and new jersey.

Derrick Favors will be a stud. My pipe dream scenario would involve us getting him and perry jones in the draft.

PG: Mo
SG: Probablly manny
SF: Perry
PF: Favors
C: Andy

We'd probablly go after a 7'0 center next year. Perry and Favors have ridiculous potential that would need time to develop which is what we have.

I watch tons of NBA basketball. I wrote a nice long post about how tanking for a #1 overall pick is the wrong way to go. If I have the time, I'll find it and link to it...might be earlier in this thread. For now, I'll just ask how the Clippers and Wizards are doing.

You mean Blake Griffin and John Wall? They look pretty good to me

I'll ask how are the pistons and pacers doing?

John Wall and Blake Griffin look good. Last I checked they play on teams, called the Clippers and Wizards, who suck.

The Pistons have two Finals appearances in the past decade with one Championship, as well as five consecutive ECF appearances. That's more than you can say about 80% of NBA teams.

Look, I don't disagree that you need a superstar to compete. But you don't need just a superstar...you need way more. If all it took was one guy then the Cavs would have a five-peat. Putting a 19 year old kid on this Cavs team isn't going to suddenly reverse their fortunes.

well, that's the issue especially in basketball. if you don't blow things up, then you likely don't get the superstar and end up like the pacers, bucks, or, at best, Rockets and Hawks. Teams that are never in a championship race but usually toying with or in the playoffs.

if you do tank, then you likely end up with years of rebuilding like the Clippers, Twolves, Bulls, Knicks, etc.

Bball is a superstar sport because in the playoffs the starters play so many minutes and there are so few players on the floor. Depth is important but moreso for changeup styles and to guard against injuries.

however, given the two options, I will still take the 'tanking' option. It stinks while you initially do it, but then you can cheer and hope for the young players. You can then watch the team grow and devleop, and hopefully build a young, dynamic team more like the Thunder, Bulls, or TrailBlazers (who blew their 1 chance at a superstar pick and ultimately killed their chances).

------------------

candy, even if we are in the Nets/Nuggets talks, no way Favors doesn't go to Denver. They are the ones giving up Melo, they get Favors. We'd just be getting a late 1st or 2nd round pick for helping facilliatate. Still better than the Pistons getting cap relief and a pick though, so I'll take it.

I'm pretty sure NJ/Den already asked us and a few other and have moved on to the Pistons.

Are we even going to do anything with the Trade Exception we got? It expires at the trade dealine right?

I know theres not alot of moves to be made... But... please... do something...

the trade exception is good for 1 year from last july 9th. we can use it at the draft if we don't find anything valuable at the trade deadline.

LeBron's tweet says a lot about him as a man. What an ass. I hope he misses a game winning shot that would win the championship for the Heat.

Unfortunately a "plan" in the NBA first involves getting so bad that you can increase your odds of winning the lottery, then the second step of a "plan" involves being lucky enough to win the lottery.... and it's an ill conceived league when the first two steps of a good rebuilding plan first involve getting as bad as you can and then getting lucky... then and only then, after you get bad enough and lucky enough to acquire that first key stud piece of the puzzle... then you can actually have a plan to build from there and HOPE your stud puzzle piece hasn't already made up his mind to leave for a bigger market to play with his friends...

I hope he steps on the court for his next game, and both legs snap in half for no apparent reason.

That would be karma.

Unfortunately, karma rarely takes the form we wish ... and the "guilty" are all too often left unpunished. (especially when immensely talented)

If I had to write a script, I would write it this way ......

The Heat would plow through the regular season, much the way the Cavaliers did for years with James here. Then the playoffs would hit, and they would experience constant failure in the most frustrating of ways. This would go on for every year of the "trio" or whatever the hell they call themselves. The year after the last of them leaves Miami, I would have that team win a championship.

Unfortunately, I don't get to write the storylines.

I agree with that. The nba as a league is a total joke. Outside of new york, and maybe new jersey, the cold weather teams have no chance. At least not with the players in the league currently. Don't players like james, wade, melo, know the league is losing revenue at an alarming rate?? James complained there isn't enough good players in the league, and that teams like minnesota, and new jersey need contracted. yet, him and bosh leave cities like c-town and toronto, to go form a super team in miami.. Way to help out the league. Wait until these dolts are locked out for the 2011 season. The way it's going some teams may need to go away. Maybe they'll get the message then.

Please yourself. Varejo hasn't been on IR since the season started so don't use him as one of your excuses. Now are you telling me that if the Cavs had Shaq, Z, and West on the team right now that they would be a winning team?

There is also a huge hole where #23 used to be.

Add in a competent small forward and who knows? Unfortunately, the team was ill prepared to replace someone of his ability.

What team would be well prepared to do so?

these guys have thrown in the towel. they were 7-9 at 1 point. how in the hell do you go 1-21?? if you're trying you should be able to win a few, especially if you started 7-9.

I agree about west, shaq and Z. we won a lot of games without those guys a year ago. we played some our best ball without shaq in there. we may have 12 or 13 wins, but I don't see many more even with those guys. I don't like james, but he made basketball easy for those guys.

Yeah, that's what I was saying - the Cavs depended on Lebron for winning games. PunchSmack was trying to tell me Lebron has nothing to do with it.
