Pit's doing his ask the multitudes the million dollar question because I'm the one who said it was a waste to keep Gini around for another year..however I'm not the only one who feels that way.
I'm saying if you can't get the rigt guy, why change? Why hire yet another band aid you're not sure about?
MH said it isn't fair to only give a coach one season. so IF he had to hire "plan C" last year, next year we may have been going through this very same thing. Guess what? that would have put us yet another year behind.
so we spendt one to save two. You seem to think MH has a list of names so long he can just write names on a dart board and hit one. "insert name here" is what caused this mess and I think we've seen enough of it.
I'm tired of revolving HC's and I think most everyone else is too. MH had his plate full when he came here. If it takes a year to iron some things out before a coaching move was made, then so be it.
And so you are not a "part of the masses"?

I asked ddub. Level headed and doesn't think he's smarter than our FO. You know, a realistic view.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Thus far on this whole issue I've mostly stayed on the sidelines and held comment. The one thing that bothers me is the posters that have the mindset of "Whatever Holmey decides I'm happy with, he was in a SB and he's been doing this so he must know what he's doing.
I'm not so sure the situation is analogous. We have a different situation here. We aren't GB or Seattle. I'm not prepared to give him the keys to the city without seeing some results. Same with Heckert. While I feel they did good getting us some much needed personnel (we needed outfielders and by golly they went and got us some last year) I need to see that on a consistent basis. I need to see this FO do it right on a consistent basis. Thats what it's going to take for us to whack the squealers, the rats and the bungles and go to the playoffs.
I'm NOT saying H, H and H can't do it, I'm saying I need to see some more. God willing we have a season next year and a draft in April and we hire a coaching staff that lends themself to being part of a whole that is all on the same page.
I'm still on the fence whether we have made the right moves or not so far.
Time will tell I suppose.

And? Proof is in the pudding bud..his decisons and coaching did not cut it. He turned most off with his bad ingame decisions and use of personnel among other things. All ya gotta do is listen to what Mike said..he was frustrated ..very frustrated.
You and several others such as Django would find something wrong if the damn guy guided the team to a Superbowl win...
Because of that and your attitude of "mightier than thou" and "know it all" and all your condesending,,,, I don't honestly care what you think

Who said iT was plan C..U did? We're already a year behind again..U forget that? And depending on who comes it may get set back further if..if.. they overhaul the defense. And so you are not a "part of the masses"?
Masses of what? Those who don't think for themselves and not afraid to call what they see? I see a lot of Molasses in here. Speaking of which.. Daman.. seems you're peeved a bit.. You and several others such as Django would find something wrong if the damn guy guided the team to a Superbowl win...

What mindset should a person have if they are not in a position to influence the decision at all? Would it make my life better to fret and be miserable about a decision that I didn't make regarding a team that I don't play for?
I am a fan.. I would contend that I am about as faithful to the Browns as anybody here... but really, whatever MH does, I have no choice but to be happy with it and hope for the best... worrying about it just seems like a big huge waste of time to me.

Me too, because it is nothing more than a pissing match..........you have the know it alls that attempt to show how much they know and just about anyone that says "gee, one more year would've been okay" is labeled a mangini lover.........
What choice do we, as fans have?
Of course we have to wait on Holmgren - he's the one making the decisions.

So, attack - I must say I've missed many posts for the aforementioned reasons - but: Who is your choice for coach?
Yes, I know your choice doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things - but who do you want?

Oh, i'm sure there's a ton of coaches that want to be in big Mike H's shadow. Especially when he keeps waffling about coaching.
Truth is, what good coach would want Mike H to be given all the credit? because you know that's who will get it. What we'll get is an up and comer type.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Interesting point that I had not considered......Holmgren does need to be careful about his "..maybe coaching again....."thing.
And, for conspiracy theorists - extrapolate that a few years - Holmgren hires someone, while still building a team HE wants - then cans the guy in 2 years, steps in as head coach with players he wanted - has a winner...........he goes out on top.

I don't think he will go back to coaching. At the same time I thought it was really poor form to keep saying it.
The more I think about it, the more I think we'll end up with a puppet coach.
PLEASE prove me wrong mike, please.

Florida, you bring up Vince Lombardi: a great Coach who played with talent that had lost for years in molded them into championship teams. Ok mangini has been fired and lots of scheme(west coast) coaches have been bandied about yet I fear we are passing up what is right in front of our noses. Why was lombardi the best, there were better schemers, better offenses..but what made vince so special is he was a motivator and his players loved playing for him. we already have that guy in Rob Ryan. promote him and give him a west coast coordinator. He knows the players, the strengths and will get what he wants in free agency as players love playing for the ryans. but mike won't do it. We will lose a great motivator and hire yet another first year project head coach. We have to trust holmgren, i just wish he would consider ryan.

A lot of his players looking back say how they loved Vince, but at the time, many hated him. He once told a player with a broken leg bone to get back in there since it wasn't a weight bearing bone. Great coach and motivator yes, but his players played more out of fear than they did love. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, in my opinion.)

Yes, Lombardi's men loved him much the way Gen Patton's men loved him... it's a different time than it was back then and those methods don't work with most of the folks of today.

We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Therein lies the reason that the "fear" method is dying out. In those days there was no FA, no union, and really no protection for player abuse. In todays NFL there is FA, a lot more jobs, and a union that would have crucified Vince for some of the stuff he pulled.
Different league now, and you have to be a leader, but you can't be an utter ass either.
Against logic, the most effective armor is willful ignorance.
