Texting 101: Don’t send pot messages to cop Kentucky teacher sent trooper drug-deal details intended for dealer MURRAY, Ky. - A middle school teacher trying to buy pot was arrested after she sent text messages to state trooper instead of a dealer, police said. Trooper Trevor Pervine was at dinner with his wife and parents celebrating a birthday when his phone started buzzing with messages about a marijuana purchase. At first, Pervine thought the messages were from friends playing a joke, Kentucky State Police spokesman Barry Meadows said. But a couple of phone calls put that idea to rest, and Pervine responded to set up a meeting, Meadows said. Of course not, I have absolutely no problem with a teacher who is teaching my child smoking pot.  Okay class, today's lesson, make sure you have your dealer's number programmed into your cell phone so you don't text a police officer instead. What a lesson plan!

What a person does outside of class is their own business. If they are qualified to teach---then obviously, they are able to teach. What they do in their personal life is none of anyones business.

Its just a little pot----she shouldn't lose her job over that. I can't stand how stupifd people are about this kind of stuff. And they are freaking stupid.
POT does not make you a bad person.
POT doesn't make you any less qualified to hold a job.
These cops set her up--and put a permanent black spot on her record just because she was trying to get high.
How wrong is it that they sold her pot---then arrested her for buying pot from them. These cops will eventually get cancer and die---and they deserve it.

You still haven't figured out that crimes are graded by "degrees" as to how severe the crime is? Sorry,but a minor misdemeanor is far from a major felony and the law states such by the penalty each one carries and the "degree" of the crime. The two are not EVEN comperable. Well according to the court system anyway.

First of all, she hasn't lost her job, she is suspended WITH PAY...
Second, it is illegal
Third, she is basically a role model to middle school kids. Now if you want your 12 year old thinking it's OK to buy and smoke pot, that's fine, but most of the world doesn't agree with you.
Yes she is an adult, and if she does it on her own time, so be it, I'm not a big fan of busting every pot smoker int he country. But the fact is she got caught, her students will find out about it, and MOST parents don't want their kids smoking pot, even if they do themselves, at least not in middle school.

Regardless, pit, pot is illegal, like it or not. She broke the law. Sorry to break it to you, but until the law is changed, she broke the law. Major felony, minor misdemeanor - laws are in place.....when the laws are changed, I will change my opinion. Until then, I have to take sides with the law.

If the cop wouldn't have been so overzealous about popping a freaking elementary school teacher no one would ever know about her pot smoking.

I don't have a problem if a teacher smokes pot, as long as they aren't smoking it before or during work. What they do on their own time is their business. I have people do work for me, that I know smoke pot. They do good work, for a fair price. Unjust laws are all over the place, and this is one of them. If she was smart, she would save up enough to buy a 1/4 pound and have a big stash. That's what most professionals I know do.

Say "Ok, this person is trying to buy drugs... but she probably isn't that big, so even though I'm a cop, I'm just going to ignore it"? Maybe she wouldn't have been dumb enough to text a cop for drugs if she hadn't smoked so much pot

You know what...I actually tried to get my mind to think that way for about a second. I thought my head was going to explode. Try looking at it this way...I'm a mother. As a mother there's one thing you don't mess with and that's my child! Children spend more time with teachers than they do with their parents in today's society. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't leave my child with a sitter that smokes pot "on her own time" I surely don't want to entrust the safety and well-being of my child to a teacher who spends 7 hours a day, 5 days a week with my child even if she's getting high "on her own time". I just can bend my mind around that way of thinking. Maybe if you thought of the children instead of the pothead teacher you would get that. But since human compassion for innocent children doesn't matter to you, only the rights of potheads, you wouldn't get that concept.

yea I agree. my buddy is an underwriter for a major insurance company, and he smokes weed all the time, even on his lunch break. he's only 25 and is moving up fast within the company. his sister also teaches elementry school and smokes all the time.
I havn't smoked in 3 years becuase I don't want to lose my job, but I loved to smoke in college. I didn't smoke cigarettes, I used weed as a relaxing agent more than anything.
my employees come in high all the time.. my general manager doesn't mind as long as it doesn't affect their job. to each their own I guess.

About weed, if people smoke weed in their own time at home whats the big deal? Just b/c you smoke weed to relax and might be a teacher doesn't mean anything. It's not like she went to school high or tried to tell her students the benefits of smoking up. I know a lot of professional people that smoke, even police officers. This woman might pay the price for it b/c after all it is illegal, but IMO better than a teacher that drinks all the time. A teacher in my JR High got fired b/c she was a drunk and was mean as hell to her kids. She dealt with the stresses of her job by hitting the sauce and did it at work so she was canned.
