Watching the NFL Network and Jamie Dukes is suggesting that Dallas should contact Eric Mangini to come and fix their Defensive woes.
He feels there aren't many people out there who can coach the style they run in Dallas and Mangini is the best candidate out there.
I hope Mangini lands there.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go to Dallas. I think he would succeed. Not sure if he wants to be a defensive coordinator, but if nothing else is there.. why not.

well, with his dry presentation, he's not going to make it as an ON AIR talking head

I can't remember where I read it but one article stated he should take a year off and do some spots on NFL pregame shows. Can't really see Mangini doing that.

I have serious doubts that Jerry Jones is interested in Mangini even recommended by someone at NFL Network.

They tend not to hire talking heads who have never had much success as an NFL Head Coach. My guess is Gini will have no choice but to go the coordinator route.....or perhaps he could HC in college. If he wants to work again (and we paid him enough he doesn't have to if he managed his money right) those are his choices. No one is giving him a HC job anytime soon. Hey but if your Gini look at the bright side........Wade Phillips, and Norv Turner each got a 3rd chance after going back to OC/DC for a while. There is still hope!!!

Dallas is a high profile job, and frankly, Mangini did a lot of good things in Cleveland under very difficult conditions. I would think that he could work himself back into a head coach position rather quickly if he went to the Cowboys and they wound up in the Super Bowl.

Other guys have definitely been given a 3rd chance at success although that number is less than the plethora of guys who get 2nd chances. If Gini goes there and rights the problems the Pokes had on D this year he could definitely get another chance.
I don't think as highly as some due about Mangini, but I will say that he laid a culture and program in place that I am thankful for......this isn't the cluster he took over from Savage/RAC. I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.

I've been thinking that Manigini would be a good fit at a school such as Army, Navy or Air Force or possibly Notre Dame.

I agree. That would seem to be more fit with his coaching philosophy than the Cowboys.
I think he would do fine with Dallas, but it would drive him nuts. Jerry doesn't exactly believe in the same type of working environment that Mangini does.

Yes he does. They both like one that is very controlled.. the question will be, who is in control.. and we all know the answer to that.

I hope Mangini does land somewhere because he deserves another shot. He is a good coach and it is the Browns loss that we let him go. I don't think any other coach would have been able to squeeze more wins out of a team with such little talent as he did. I thank him for getting the Browns heading in the right direction and hope that the new coach can continue what he started.
To any of you who blame Mangini for Mangini's poor draft well he is a good coach, not a good GM. To any of you who blame Mangini for him losing the last 4 games and getting embarrassed by Pittsburgh, no coach in the world could have motivated a team that quit for their own reasons. Was he supposed to get up there and lie to them that any of those games meant anything? When the games meant something the team was well prepared and motivated.

They were 5-7, with Buffalo and Cincinnati sitting on the schedule they had a good shot of getting to 7-7. Those games meant something and they were not prepared nor motivated.
I don't think anyone expected them to beat Baltimore or Pittsburgh. 2 win Buffalo and 2 win Cincinnati. Yes, I expect to beat 2 win teams, sorry.

The Browns only played one 2 win team and they beat them (Carolina). The Browns played only 4 teams with losing records all year. Most national experts knew the Browns were still very much void of playmakers and talent and had us winning 3 - 5 games at the most. I think had they known that Tampa and KC would each go 10-6 the predictions would have been even worse. Most of us thought those would be the easy games. I think if you polled 100 experts they would overwhelmingly say the Browns overachieved this year.

Now that Jim Harbaugh drama is out of our lives, we can focus on the real circus in the NFL: The Miami Dolphins.
The team has canceled a 4:45 p.m press conference that was expected to confirm Tony Sparano was staying as head coach. We previously passed along a Miami Herald report that the team was talking about Sparano about an “adjustment” in his contract.
It’s not a shock that those talks have apparently hit a snag considering the awkward nature of Miami’s coaching search. It gets even stranger.
Jeff Darlington reports that the Dolphins scheduled a meeting with Eric Mangini that was ultimately canceled Friday. After “persistent” requests, the Dolphins admitted the meeting was set up.
They say it was for a “consultant” role because Mangini knows the AFC East so well.
One would think they’d lock in a head coach before calling in Mangini to consult, but owner Stephen Ross has consistently conducted himself in such a ridiculous manner the last four days that it’s hard to be surprised.

I supported Mangini. But your premise that he should not be blamed for not motivating the team because the games didn't count is way off base. Mangini shouldn't have to lie to the players, you're right on that note but he shouldn't have to.Those guys make alot of money off the hard work of the people buying the tickets, and wearing the gear. They shouldn't have to be lied to to get them to give the fans what they paid for. You insinuate the team gave up,I don't know if that true and I don't know if Mangini not putting forth 100% effort when it comes to getting this team motivated and prepared is true or not as I am not on the field or in the locker room. If it is then yes he did deserve to get fired. Every game the Browns play means something to me and most fans whether the team is 0-15 or 15-0.

I don't care that Buffalo finished with 3 wins and Cincinnati finished with 4.
They were 2 win teams at the time the Browns played them, don't compare them to Tampa and KC.

And this has any significance to losing to Buffalo and Cincy how? Oh yeah you should beat the teams you're supposed to beat, big time fail on your part bro. Too bad the Browns managed to beat the teams that they weren't supposed to but fail against the teams they should beat? This is good coaching? uuhhh ok.
It's amusing that the Pats had almost as many wins at that point of the season than Buffalo and Cincy had combined at the time we lost to them. And that's not even adding in the Saints 4.
Thanks for proving my point bro, try again.

Actually you have missed point after point. My last comment was to try and show you how ridiculous it is to call a 4 win team a two win team just because that is how many wins they had when we played them. I was calling the Pats a 6 win team even though they are a 14 win team because that was how many wins they had when the Browns played them. A 4 win team is a 4 win team and a 14 win team is a 14 win team. We only played one 2 win team and we beat them. Sorry to repeat myself but things seem to go right over your head.
I also didn't compare your "2 win teams" to KC or Tampa like you said. Not sure where you got that. All I said is had the experts known that those teams would be 10 win teams (I guess you would call Tampa a zero win team because that is how many wins they had when the Browns played them) the experts would have predicted the Browns to have even less wins because those were supposed to be the easy games. The Browns overachieved based on their current talent level.

When the games meant something the team was well prepared and motivated.
These guys are professionals, and the coach should make it known that they should always be motivated (their salaries and reputation are at stake)
And IMO Mangini got fired because he started Delhomme in those games over Seneca Wallace. Now may be something happened behind the scenes with Wallace, but after Seneca started a game for the Browns this season it was clear he was better than " 'Gimme Me A Break" Delhomme
Holmgren had no loyalty to Mangini, and I don't think he told him who to start at QB (nor do I think he should have, it's the coach's decision). Mangini made a terrible decision by not starting Wallace after McCoy got injured, and he dug his own grave. Had Wallace been a locker room problem (and thus wasn't an option to start), he should have been cut -------------------------------------------------------------------------- That being said, I think Mangini would make a good coordinator wherever he goes. But he's going to have to go to a team with a head coach who is either a dominant personality or an offensive minded head coach. I think that Dallas would be a fine place for Mangini to go, and he'd definitely get that defense in line.
He has kids though, and he's made plenty of money with 2 head coaching gigs in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a year off and spends time with the family (if no head coaching gig is offered to him).
Also, I think it should be clear that one of the main reasons Mangini was fired from the Jets was because of his personality. Rex Ryan is exciting in interviews and engaging. For the Jets who needed to sell a bunch of PSL's for the new stadium (and really struggled for such a popular team), Rex Ryan was seen as a coach who could also bring excitement to the team and bring in more fans. And Ryan has done that.

I agree with everything except he was fired for his personality. His personality was much improved over his first season. I think he was fired because his philosophy was different than the guy who runs the organization. Holmgren knew 2 things about this Browns team when he took control. First, he knew Mangini was helping to clean house and get the team heading in the right direction. Second, he knew this team was not ready to compete with the talent it had. It made sense to keep him one more year so that the roster could be improved so that Holmgren's choice for a replacement could have a chance to succeed. I'm not upset that we are replacing Mangini because I think everyone has to be on the same page and Mangini and Holmgren were not. I just wish everyone would recognize that Mangini did a great job with the talent that he inherited and made the Browns a better team while he was here. If we have another great draft like last year and good free agent signings then I think this team has a chance to be relevant again.

There is no way that Holmgren would have got a coach worth a damn to take over at the end of last year. The program was only starting to turn around, and a lot ... and I mean a LOT of heavy lifting remained to be done.
So Holmgren kept Mangini, and Mangini almost certainly knew that it was a 1 year deal unless he won a lot ..... but he still did it the right way, and enforced discipine, won with 3 different QBs, and had the team playing hard all year long.
Anyway ... Mangini knew that he would probably be that 1 year guy to do a job that no one else wanted to do. Look at how hard it has been (at least from reports) for Holmgren to get high profile types to look at this job. It would have been even harder last year, and I bet that even more head coaches would have suggested that coordinators not take it because of all of the problems.
Now the job is more patitable, with the team largely competitive ..... so now a coach doesn't have to be afraid of the heaviest and hardest work.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

I agree but will the next coach be afraid he will be fired unless he wins right away? It is just like the Browns style to now have to switch to a completely different offense and possibly a completely different defense. This might take time to install but the fans and media want to win right away. How many ex-coaches is Lerner still paying? Is Chris Palmer still on the payroll?

If you read my post, it said that he was fired from THE JETS partly because of his personality. I live in the NY region, and so I knew a bit about Mangini from his tenure there. He was much worse with the media in New York than in Cleveland.
I said the reason he got fired in Cleveland was because our team finished the season poorly. Not just the W-L record but how we played. I put a lot of that on Jake Delhomme (and Mangini started him). Colt played the final two games against the Steelers and Ravens, both were expected losses. But the Bills/Bengals should have went better, the game against Carolina and Miami was bad too and our offense struggled 2nd half against the Jags.
We also should have played better/beaten the Chiefs and Bucs in the beginning of the season. I was very disappointed in those games. Especially against the Bucs. That game made me realize that Jake Delhomme was garbage right away (first quarter, dumbest interception ever)
The Falcons game could have been salvaged if we knew about McCoy's skills; instead, Delhomme comes in for Seneca Wallace (injured because of a terrible play by Joe Thomas) and proceeds to make bonehead Derek Anderson-esque decisions.
The whole team sucked at the end of the season, we looked great for like two and a half weeks; then starting with Jacksonville in the second half, we looked poor the rest of the season. Mangini got fired because of this

Do you think Mangini playing Delhomme might have had anything to do with Holmgren saying that Colt wouldn't play this year?
In hindsight, yeah playing Colt from the beginning probably would've been better. However, you can't put that on Mangini since it was Holmgren's directive.

I think that Mangini should have played Seneca Wallace. Whether Colt started or not this year. And Holmgren changed his tune to very unlikely that Colt would start (which is what Mangini said also).
Seneca Wallace was the other option, and he was a much better option. This was brought up during training camp (where reports were that players thought Wallace was better) and it was obvious after Wallace began starting for the Browns. There was no reason after the Browns lost to the Jags that Seneca Wallace didn't start against the Panthers, Dolphins, Bengals, and Bills.
May be I'm the only one, but I thought Delhomme was terrible this year. Absolutely terrible, and his play against the Bucs and Falcons backed this up. If this team played better in those four games (and we had beaten the Bills/Bengals), we would have probably been 7-9, and Mangini never would have been fired. (IMO)
