Five players who are eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame for the first time this year have made the list of 17 finalists who will be considered for induction when the selection committee meets on the day before the Super Bowl.

Jerome Bettis, Marshall Faulk, Curtis Martin, Willie Roaf and Deion Sanders all made the cut. They will be joined by 10 others who have been considered before, as well as the two senior nominees, Chris Hanburger and Les Richter, who were announced in August.

The other 10 men who will be voted on are Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Dermontti Dawson, Richard Dent, Chris Doleman, Charles Haley, Cortez Kennedy, Andre Reed, Ed Sabol and Shannon Sharpe.

Eleven semifinalists didn’t make the cut to become finalists: Don Coryell, Roger Craig, Terrell Davis, Eddie DeBartolo, Kevin Greene, Ray Guy, Lester Hayes, Art Modell , Paul Tagliabue, Aeneas Williams and George Young.

Of that list, I see a few that will probably go.

Deion Sanders is the only first timer. Though I think Roaf will get in probably next year. He should be automatic imo. I think Dawson will get in, and Ed Sabol should. The others are mostly lack luster to me. Maybe Cris Carter for his play, definately not his "in-studio" job.

He doesn't deserve to be in the HOF, he doesn't even deserve to be on the consideration list. I'll bet that outside of Bmore, no one is shedding a tear.

And who could blame them,, they lost thier team to Indy,,, went without for over 10 years,, Modell comes in, he's like a savior or a white knight. Brings Football back to Bmore.,

What they forgot about is how they felt when Indy got the Colts..

Anyway, I was surprised to read that even with all the freebies that Modell got to move the team, he still ended up in trouble financially..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Modell

Here is the line I was talking about:

Quote:

Ravens sold to minority owner Bisciotti

Despite a no-cost stadium lease, all revenues from parking, concessions, and TV, as well as a reported $25M Maryland subsidy, Modell's ownership of the Ravens resulted in continual financial hardships, and the NFL stepped in and directed Modell to sell his franchise.

I think this proves that it was more mismangment of the organization than any thing else that caused Modell to have to move.

I still say, that if he were a man, he'd have sold the team with the stipulation that it remain in Cleveland.. He clearly didn't have the ability to run it.

One other thing I didn't know about Modell.. His grandfather started the Modell Sports Equipment company.. I had no idea that was related at all... You learn something new every day.

Nah I don't want him to die. I want him to suffer and witness every year him not making it into the HOF.

Just trying to turn a phrase. Naturally I wish for him to live to be a miserly, miserable old man.

It's funny - we all want him dead, but the day the greedy old pig dies, it'll mean one less thing to look forward to.

Just kidding, mostly, I really don't wish death on him.

Am I the only one that finds it ironic and actually, quite maddening, that the freaking NFL stepped in and told him to sell? Seems about ten years too late for my liking. I'm a little speechless over that. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Thanks for nothing NFL.

And I will say that I am looking forward to learning of his death. He's the ONLY person I've ever felt that way about, and I'm sure the only one I ever will. Screw him.

This is very good news. I hope he is in pain every day for the rest of his life...and I hope he lives for another 40 years. He is a complete bum.

Suprised Paul Tag didn't make the cut.

Don Coryell deserves to be in. He was such an innovator and really was before his time as far as the passing game. He could coach a team in today's NFL and not miss a beat.

Obviously, since I pointed it out,,, you aren't the only one that finds it ironic

Remember, it's Wiki,,, sometimes they are not exact... having said that, I seem to remember that there was that kinda talk back when Modell sold the team to Biscotti...

I don't like the man, but I wish him no pain... and I certainly don't wish for his death...
