I am wondering if San Fran positions themselves for the first pick in the supplemental draft...and Mr Luck changes his mind...and...well...you know

How do they do that ? How does that work ?

They can't. You can't trade those positions any longer.

You want a player, you put in a sealed bid. If you bid the most, you get the player and forfeit that pick in next years draft.

The only way Luck get to SF is if the teams ahead of the niners don't bid a 1st round selection.

It was just a scenario, but that's why I said they would have to be the worst team ("tank it")at the time of the SD, because there will be 32 teams with a sealed bid.

Edit: (1st round bid)

Unlike when we got Bernie in the SD.

Not sure, but I don't think so.

I agree, but I think this next draft will be heavily defensive on our behalf.
If we can still get one of the top 2 or 3 WR's and also secure another pick, well then..... let's say you won't hear me complain.

Since we are going to a 4-3, I can't see us taking anything but a DL in the 1st, and maybe even 2nd or 3rd rounds as well.

We need, literally, a TON of new blood on the DL to transition to the 4-3. It would not surprise me if we take 3 in this draft overall.

I REALLY hope he's joking....

Quote:

Nick Fairley will play anywhere, except in the cold

In the pre-draft poking and prodding, the things an incoming rookie says can have as much impact on his eventual placement — and payday — as the things he does.

In declaring his intention to forgo his final year of eligibility at Auburn and head to the NFL, Fairley made an observation about his first NFL destination that some teams could view as a red flag.

Asked where he wants to play at the next level, Fairley said (via Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com), “It doesn’t matter as long as it’s not cold.”

Um. Yeah.

Maybe he really didn’t mean it. Then again, maybe he did. Either way, the remark will surely be used by any interested team in assessing whether Fairley “gets it” and/or whether he’ll bring a sense of entitlement to the NFL.

Carolina @ 1 spot, and Arizona @ 5 spot... the rest in b/w are cold, and those are places he is projected to go...

I bet he wouldn't complain if a winning cold team picked him up, lol.. ie Ravens, Steelers, Patriots, Packers, Bears..

This is going back to the first page, but you have Locker going before Mallet? Why's that?

Mallett was really up and down (if I remember right), but Locker straight up took a dump for the season.

Ryan Mallet = Derek Anderson

LOL, I guess he just wants to put it out there he does not want to go to Denver, Buffalo, Cincinnati or Cleveland.

Arizona is my guess, not Carolina at one.

Out of all those teams, sadly Buffalo and Cincy seem the ones closest to competing, I'd want to go there...

Coincadently, they're the ones that seem to have their QB situation in order.

Hey, if Buffalo wants Cam Newton I'll glady take Ryan Fitz off their hands...

I think the Mallett/Anderson is spot on. Only Mallett is probably as good as Anderson right now. If he got into the right system (i.e. coach) he could turn out pretty good.

I don't really see Locker as Hasselbeck though. At all. Locker is probably going to run the fastest 40 time of any QB not named Tyrod Taylor (and maybe Cam Newton). I'd say Locker is potentially a rich man's David Garrard.

Mallett plays in an offense that is easy to complete passes in, he's inaccurate, he makes dumb decisions, and has huge character flags.

Agreed. I've been thinking since mid season that, at best, he could be a Jake Plummer and, at worst, a Derek Anderson.

I find it interesting that, once again, a QB who many thought would go #1 overall stays for his senior year only to see his draft value DROP considerably...

I'm not comparing Locker to Lienart, because I believe they stayed for different reasons, Locker wanted to see the whole Washington revival through to a bowl game, Lienart IMO just wanted to continue be BMOC.

Many people questioned taking Matt Ryan so high when he threw 19 INTs his senior year. I think Locker can be a high caliber QB.

Mallet is a 1st round bust waiting to happen.(I predict Minnesota, if they get Josh McDaniels, he likes taking QBs with flags in the 1st round )

I think Cincinnati would be interested, but the Bills of coarse would be projecting him from DT to DE in their 34.

Denver is sitting pretty, at #2, because they will almost be assured that Patrick Peterson the best DB/do it all player since Woodson came out of ND will be there.
I am not suggesting they will with 100% certainty take him at #2, but chances are pretty good that they will I think.
Unless the Panthers pass on DaQuan Bowers at #1.

AJ Green has been projected as high as #1, but the oods are pretty slim that the draft will open with the selection of a WR. I think his range will be 3-6 pick.

God forbid he fall passed us at 6

Could you imagine the French words that might be heard across the world.

It is a possibility.

He also had 31 touchdowns his senior year..... he was asked to throw the ball 654 times that year... What is that about 50 times per game? And lastly, he lost Tom O'Brien before his senior year..... Of all the things I've been wrong about in my life, that wasn't one of them. From about midway through his junior year I was hoping that somehow we could position ourselves to get Matt Ryan. Considering he got them to a #2 ranking in 2007 before losing a few and finishing #14 or something like that.. that's pretty amazing.

Just figure I should bring this up

Lets say the draft ends up like this:

1. Carolina Panthers- Nick Fairley

2. Denver Broncos- Marcel Dareus

3. Buffalo Bills- Da’Quan Bowers

4. Cincinnati Bengals- A.J. Green

5. Arizona Cardinals- Robert Quinn or a QB

Pros:
Let’s make this simple; Patrick Peterson is the best cover corner in college football. In 2009 he held Georgia’s AJ Green to 4 catches and Alabama’s Julio Jones to 3 catches. I am not sure how he faired against them this year. Passing on a supreme talent like Peterson would be a colossal mistake. Peterson and Haden would be the most dominating secondary in the NFL. We could basically put them both on islands.

Cons:
It could be a lot of money for our secondary and we do have a lot of needs.

Ditto that.
With a secondary like that, you have a LOT of freedom to take chances with your DLine and LBers.

(if) he is there @ 6 then he will be the highest prospect on the Board.
True it would be putting all our eggs in one basket, but he is also someone who can be a big time ST's talent like Cribbs was.
If you don't take the highest rated player on your board and he fits your teams BPA, then your wasting the pick if you do not trade back. I don't see Peterson falling to us at 6, but it could happen.

Whoever falls to us at 6 pretty much is a prime pick. Therefore, trading down shouldn't be that difficult.

Say AJ Green is there, and somone offers you a great deal, and maybe you can still get Jones later in the draft? I'd do it...

I'm pretty much always for trading down, Especially when there is no #1 overall guy. Like this year.

If it did work out that this CB is the BPA and we'd be reaching if we got anyone else that is available (Green and Jones are both gone, for example)...

Do you think we take him and then try to move Wright for some picks?

Maybe that would force Brown into a safety spot?

Just throwing things out there. I'm thinking being able to do one of the above would make taking another corner super high in back to back drafts a little more doable.

Just throwing an idea out there. I didn't say it was a well thought out idea.

I just have a hard time with devoting too high first picks to one area of the team when we have so many glaring needs. By trading Wright, we would get some value back to try to invest in those other areas.

Can't imagine this scenario happening, though.

Wright would be a horrible safety, and I don't think he'd want to play there...

Brown at Safety seems almost like a given right now.

Always the best option when picking in the top 10.

Sheldon Browns skill set requires him being physical with a WR at the LOS. He isn't a ball hawk at all.

Everybody just assumes wright would suck at safety because he isn't great at corner.

Bold & italic=Names of interest for the Draft.

Bold=Prospects who I think good use a good game to raze their Draft stock.

+= injuries have hurt their draft stock

Time =Saturday (22nd) at 4 p.m.

#99, DT, Marvin Austin was once a TOP 10 prospect for this years draft, but of coarse lost his chance to play last season due to being suspended from the NC team.

#77, OT, Joseph Barksdale was once considered a Top OT for this years class, but sloppy play this year has seen his stock fall and most projections have him going from rounds 5-7.

#61, OT, Chris Hairston is a prospect I am very high on and an area of need for us, but I just don't see us pulling the trigger on an OT with the first couple of selections, so he is a guy I would lke to see us target in the 4th round.

#23, WR, Jeffrey Maehl stock is on the rise with his play in the BCS title game and will have many scouts interested to see what he can do outside of Oregon.

My problem with Wright at safety is that he isn't a good tackler. He is at his best in zone coverage, so that would be a good fit, but his lack of tackling ability and physicality is a huge negative.

I have no problem taking Peterson... can we get the Dawgs of Defense posters started again with Peterson, Haden, Ward and ?????...

Having one unit that is locked up with great young talent would be really nice. And it doesn't mean we can find a WR or a LB or a DL or a LT, it just means we can't find a first rounder at those positions..

ditto.

Besides, isn't Wright currently scheduled to become a free agent this off-season? He may not be ours to move to safety or for us to trade.

Wright is a Restricted Free Agent, so as long as we tender him an offer, he's ours (*CBA nonsense aside for the moment).

This Peterson kid, plus Haden and Wright.... then Ward and I would assume Brown at Safety.... our secondary would be rocking.

Most importantly, I think Brown being back there would really go a long way to helping Ward not get out of position in the passing game as he is prone to.

The only downside, is that - IMO - that moves us taking a WR to the 3rd round because there is no way in hell that we're passing on Carimi in the 2nd

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
