I thought this guy came up with a pretty clever scam. He almost got away with it too. It sort of reminded me of Ocean's Eleven with only one person running the scam. I kind of thought stealing printed government money would get more than nine months in prison though. foxnews.com WASHINGTON — A former Treasury Department employee was sentenced to nine months in federal prison Monday for stealing more than $67,000 in uncut sheets of $100 bills that he tried to launder through casino slot machines. David C. Faison, 56, was also ordered to pay back the government $37,200 — the amount he fed to slot machines in Atlantic City, West Virginia and Delaware between May and August last year. The rest of the money — nine sheets of partially printed $100 bills — was recovered at Faison's house in Largo, Md., hidden inside a roll of Christmas wrapping paper. Faison was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman less than a year after he admitted to the scheme and pleaded guilty on Sept. 6 to federal charges of material for counterfeiting purposes. Additionally, he will be put on supervised release for three years after serving his prison term. Faison had worked as a stock control recorder, distributing currency paper within the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, when he stole 21 sheets of partially printed $100 bills. Each sheet contained 32 bills, which were missing serial numbers and Treasury Department seals. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington said Faison hand-cut at least 360 bills, then drove to the casinos. There, he laundered the bills through slot machines that issued tickets redeemable for cash. Surveillance video showed him feeding bills into slot machines, playing for a while, then cashing out for new bills.

I usually search for stupid criminals but this guy looks like he thought this out. Except for that whole going to jail thing. I'd like to know how a guy walks out of the US treasury carrying a whole bunch of sheets of money. I'm envisioning a guy leaving the Treasury building and walking through Washington carrying huge sheets of money saying something like, "excuse me, official Treasury business"

If I was a treasury workin' thief, I'd probably do something simple like wrap them around my body, under my clothes.

21 sheets is a lot to hide under your clothes. Plus he'd also have to carry all that money into the bathroom before stuffing them under his clothes and that must have raised some questions. (sorry we were out of tp) I'd kinda like to know how long this guy planned this. Spending the money in slot machines at a casino is actually genius. I wonder how long it would have taken him to convert all the money at the casino. That would take forever. This guy was dedicated to have spent all that time pulling slots just to convert the money.

Chances are he had time alone with the paper, and he didn't necessarily take them all at once. I'm not saying that's how he got the stuff out, but it's one possibility. The problem with having people in positions of trust is that you have to trust them.

He problaly got caught when the casino found no serial numbers on the bill and went back to the tapes to see who placed these bills in the certain machines.. You don't think they have this stuff timestamped? It's just a matter of recording the sequence and dollar amount the bills have been placed into the machine and keeping the bills in the right order and seeing at what time a certain bill got inserted and then review the tape at that time.. You don't think we have that kind of technology? naive people

Here's something I've always wondered. What happens when someone like this goes to interview for a job.
Boss: Could you please explain what you wrote under felonies Thief: Well when I worked for the Treasury department I was caught stealing sheets of unmarked $100 bills and trying to illegally launder the money by playing slot machines in a casino. Boss: We'll put you in accounting

Making Money involves several steps.
He probably took bills without serial numbers or tresurary stamps.
Silly man, that is easy to trace.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

I would disagree. Casinos are nothing but money moving factories, they do it very efficiently and are very well trained at spotting fakes and forgeries... they are always on the look out for stuff like that. As opposed to the supermarket or some other place where the people have no clue. I think a casino is the LAST place I would try to launder money.

I wouldn't try passing them at a casino to much security. I'd probably try to pass them off on Goober at the fillin station. My names not Illegalmoe for nothing

Hey this guy's pretty smart by my books. I'd be like the guys on Office Space looking up money laundering in the dictionary.

It was the stupidest thing to do, casinos are very good at checking their money, and would know it right away, like every 12 hrs I think they empty the machines. Casinos are filled with hi-tech cameras in every nook and cranny, and they just review the tapes and bust him.
Pretty simple, the casino probably found the scam before the treasury department.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Yeah that was my guess to begin with.. check my post above.. *chuckle*
but atleast he was as stupid as this woman trying to pass off a $1,000,000 bill at Walmart of all places... If i had a $1,000,000 bill, Walmart would be the last place i'd be shopping at.. unless I was hoping one of the untrained clerks would give me change back from my $1,000,000 bill
