Just another article by those know nothings at nfl.com .... but I figured I'd post it anyway ..... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81...coordinator-jobMangini becomes a favorite to land Titans' D-coordinator job By Albert Breer NFL Network NFL Network Reporter Could Eric Mangini land on his feet with the Tennessee Titans? The former Browns coach is a serious candidate for Tennessee's defensive coordinator position, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Mangini was fired by Cleveland this month after back-to-back 5-11 seasons. Prior to his tenure in Cleveland, Mangini coached the New York Jets for three seasons before being replaced by Rex Ryan in 2009. Mangini has one season of experience as a defensive coordinator, serving in the role in 2005 under Bill Belichick in New England.

Good. The Browns will owe him a little less money then.
But I will believe it when I see it.

Maybe, maybe not. Chances are good the team and Eric have already settled the contract matter.
If they haven't, I don't think Eric would be as eager to jump in to a new job as that could null and void his contract with the Browns.
Holmgren probably already had the severance agreement in hand. Seeing how swiftly the marriage made a seamless split, it had to be very attractive....probably no less than 80% of what would have been paid had Eric remained....the way Holmgren talked, maybe the full amount

I wish Mangini the best, I think he'll make a fine DC and when Fisher's contract is up next year and that crazy owner Adams fires him, Gini might get his next shot at HC.

The only thing that hurts worse than having your coach fired at the end of a season is having him fired and unemployable. At least he must have done something right in Cleveland. As long as we're better off now than when we had him I'm OK with him landing another job.

Rarely are the people we fire as bad as some on here feel they are. Palmer got a job pretty quickly, Phil Savage did also, so did Butch Davis and RAC..
Look at Daboll,, according to some folks, he was the worst OC ever and yet, he lands a similar job in Miami within a month of the end of the season.
People that are supposed to know this stuff seem to like some of our castoffs..
As for Mangini and the Titans,, maybe he'll be there and maybe he won't., Remember, a few days ago, all we heard about was how Musgrave was coming here and so was Wannestadt.
I'll believe it when I see it.

NFL coaches are owed every penny of their remaining contract unless they're fired with cause.
Obviously, Mangini's firing was closer to wrongful termination than it was with cause.
He'd basically be working for free with the Titans, but it would save Randy Lerner some coin because his Titans salary draws against what he's owed from the Browns.

Not True. Most have it in their contract that if released and they take another coaching job their new contract will be subtracted from their old contract. It was one of the reasons Gruden didnt want to come back to coaching so he could stick it to the Bucs. Hope he gets the job and convinces the titans to trade for some of his previous talent.

Just because some of us don't agree with the firing doesn't mean we're not Browns fans. Not everyone agrees, it's a fact of life, get used to it. You're always piping about maturity, so grow up and stop sniping and being a dick about it.

They didn't say it's a lock, just that he's a favorite. Anybody who interviews is a favorite.
I hope he gets it. He's too good a guy to go unemployed. Some people get promoted into their area of incompetence. I think that was the case with him as it was the case with RAC as it has been the case with many. Back to focusing on being a DC can be very good for him and good for the Titans if he is the eventual choice.

As I said before, I'm all for him getting the Titans job.
But I also think it needs to be said that before he left NE for the Jets Belichick had stripped him of his Defensive play calling duties on game day.
Now, since some on here want to make a big issue of us not getting a big name OC because Shurmer is calling the Offensive plays initially and that supposedly is making candidates feel like it is a "lesser" position because of that fact, I wonder if they look down on Mangini because when he was a coordinator a similar thing happened to him?
Of course, it was slightly different in his case because he was calling plays in NE then was relieved of those duties.
I guess what I'm saying is while I think Mangini is a decent Defensive coach he may not be the Second Coming........

God, I hope Holmgren gets fired soon so all his blind followers like yourself can STOP following the Browns and go follow him wherever he goes. There how does it feel?
Get over yourself.

Say what?
What I'm wondering...isn't Mangini a 3-4 DC and TEN a 4-3 D? or are they going to switch? ...and isn't Fisher a DC turned HC? If so, wouldn't Mangini be considered a "weak" DC there?
I don't think he'll go anywhere since he'd make more $ sitting at home than accepting a DC or assistant job but then again it's Eric outsmart Mangini, who the hell knows in which direction his brain will fart this time

Agreed, I've held my peace on that subject but enough is enough. That was obnoxious. I thought we were all Browns fans here with some exceptions.
I'm a Browns fan. I hav e some expectations. I'm not here to give Holmgren the keys to the city, I want to see some results. I'm not interested in his previous performance. I'm interested in the here and now. I'm interested in the Browns. We all are. We can debate and disagree and seeing each others POV makes us all the richer for that.
Back to the thread, I wish EM well except when he plays the Browns.

actually this makes alot of sense... mangini's assistant Luke Steckel's dad Les Steckel was a former Titan's coordinator, and still calls Nashville home.
Id like to see Mangini here in Nashville.

Bingo!
I don't see this happening. Mangini has been a 3-4 guy the whole time, and he's going to set up shop in a very well established 4-3 defense? I mean, I suppose he could learn on the fly and everything, but I don't know if that makes him the best candidate (I believe Rob Ryan ran a 4-3 in Oakland, right?). Ryan was very successful in Oakland (considering the Al Davis factor). I suppose it's possible.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

If Tennessee was smart, they'll switch to the 3-4. Mangini's a great place to start if that's what they want to do.

It was excellent listening to the hater threads for 2 years. Now oh my folks dare to say they liked him, how dare they.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

The Eagles letting Jauron leave to come here suddenly makes more |ense.
Mangini could go work for Reid for a few years, keep his family in one place for a few years, and re-establish himself as a frontline head coaching candidate.

Seriously? You think the Eagles let Jauron go to get their hands on Mangini? That was their master plan? Man.....that Mangini Kool-Aid must be great......

Not really, the DC job was open in Philly so they didn't need to "allow' Jauron to leave so they had room for Mangini.
I think the two moves (if indeed Mangini is on Phillys radar) aren't related at all.

Reid has a great relationship with mangini, so I could see him going there. Mangini may get another head coaching job, but I think it will be a long time before he does. I would say at least 5 years, if not more. Getting canned 2 times, without a whole lot of success, would be a tough sell to a fanbase, plus the owner/gm doing the hiring.
