The Rite; or The Mechanic?
Anybody seen those and if so what do you think?
The wife and I are going to the movies tomorrow and have narrowed it down to these two.

I'd go see The Rite.
For me anyway, to see The Mechanic, I would spend the whole movie comparing it to the original.

haven't seen either
The Rite - heard it was not very good
The Mechanic - if you're a Jason Statham fan, trailer looks good

As far as I'm concerned, it's not a remake because I didn't know it had been done before.

Statham. That's all I need to hear. I've never heard of the other one.

Finding the rite mechanic is imperative to keeping your car running well.. but what does this have to do with movies?

The original Mechanic with Charles Bronson kicked butt, I was kind of wondering how the remake is going to be, so my vote goes for The Mechanic.

Mechanic. I have not seen either. I like a good shoot 'em up, blow 'em up. Hey, popcorn is the real draw. Friends, several, thought Rite was less than good. Like to hear what you thought of what you chose.

Well, we put if off until next weekend, but both will still be there. We're leaning toward The Mechanic because I haven't read one good thing about The Rite, while scouring the Internet for reviews.

I think you should go see Tangled instead.
LOL!

Heard The Rite starts out ok but ends up being lame and Hopkins just hams it up and sleepwalks through a paycheck.
Heard The Mechanic is good for modern action fans. Heard it gets pretty dark w/ some poor attempts at dark humor. Lots of violence and nudity.
If I had to pick one, it'd be The Mechanic. Have you seen EVERYTHING else that's playing? LOT of good stuff out there, supposedly.

Aside from those two, the only others worth talking about & playing where I live right now are Green Hornet (wife says no) or No Strings Attached, which I'm "meh" on.

None of the Best Picture nominees are playing around you?
The Fighter, King's Speech, Black Swan, True Grit and 127 Hours should all be in most theaters I'd think.

Wanted to see the Rite this weekend, but decided to do some beer tasting event for charity. But I didn't see any good reviews for The Rite, either.
I miss going to the movies.

Amen to that, thanks to money, raising twin toddlers and me being back in school. My wife and I turned down invites to see The Fighter last night and True Grit today. We can only see stuff on TV and Netflix these days. Talking about making it happen next weekend.
We saw one at Netflix that totally flew in under the radar. Solitary Man starring Michael Douglas. Not the best thing in the world, but not bad at all.

The Fighter and True Grit came and left. King's Speech is a period piece and I am convinced the wife wouldn't like it. The others you mentioned aren't playing here right now.

Not me. For the same price as my wife and I 'going to the movies', we can own the movie and watch it in our pristine 'movie lounge' at home. Comfy seats, good sound, good picture, and all the amenities of home

It's way too expensive to go to the movies now... I agree with you logo... I typically prefer to watch at home, though it is nice every once in awhile to see a good movie on the big screen....

I just read an article about when prices on stuff hit bottom ... like furnaces in July, and lawnmowers in December .... and the article said that March is the best month to buy a TV for the lowest average prices of the year. (as long as you don't care about buying the absolutely latest and greatest)

at some point I want to get a ceiling-drop-down screen with a HD-projector hooked up to the ceiling at the back of the room for a true movie effect.

Our daughters are about the same age....3 years 2 months. Did you take her to see that in the thearter? Did she like it? Could she follow it not already knowing the characters?

My little girl will be three in 18 days (not that I'm counting or anything. LOL)
She LOVED Tangled! I was worried about her following a story with characters she wasn't familiar with (unlike when we took her to see Toy Story 3) but she followed it just fine. Today she was talking about see the "Princess movie" again. She was also telling her sitter about the story this morning. Well, telling her as best as a 3 year old can.

I hear you but, money aside, I enjoy seeing a movie at the theater. The part that occurs once the money's spent and we're in our seats, that is. We have a huge TV and it doesn't compare to the big screen.
But once our $70 in AMC gift cards are used up, our trips to the theater will be few and far between. Not looking forward to taking 2 twin girls once they're old enough. $ound$ expen$ive . . .

Did I not tell you that was an awesome movie! I actually went to see it again this past weekend, and dragged all my neices to go see it. They loved it as well! Probably the worst marketed movie Disney has ever put out.

Thanks. We might try seeing it this week.
The first and only time she went to a movie theater wasn't very smooth (my sister took her). She cried throughout the previews, didn't like the seat, didn't like the dark, calmed down as the main attraction started, and then fell asleep for the entire thing. Funny girl.

Excl~I agree, not very well marketed.
Punch~My Mom decided to take the kids (mine, plus my nephews) to see the Nutcracker this past December. They get to theatre, they're gazing at the beautiful interior design etc. The orchestra kicks up as the show is starting...curtain goes up, my munchkin falls asleep.

my wife took my boys (last mommy + boys before the new baby thing) to see Tangled when it came out. despite the princess theme, they saw it as an action movie and loved it, which I thought was pretty funny (they were talking about the horse and the knight fighting when telling me about it, etc. etc. They did mention how they thought it was funny that he kept pulling her hair)

It is expensive, but there's just something about walking into the theater, the larger than life screen, and a big ass tub of popcorn being washed down with a big ass cherry coke.
As far as renting movies go, I hardly get the chance to do that. There's only so many PG movies you can watch with a 4 year old around. My wife can't stay up past 10, so it makes it hard. I can sit and watch movies myself at night, but she always wants me to wait and watch stuff with her. Which tends to never happen.
