Had to go with Rudy, it was the first football movie I ever remember watching. It's also widely regarded as the only movie guys are allowed to cry while watching. That movie gets me ever time, helps it's a "true" story.
If I had to order the movies listed I would have Remember the Titans a close second. Then Any Given Sunday, The Replacements, Brian's Song, The Longest Yard, and Necessary Roughness. I've never seen The Program. Waterboy is another good one, it would be 3rd on my list after RtT. Varsity Blues wasn't that bad either, it would be between AGS and Replacements.
My list would go: Rudy Remember the Titans Waterboy Any Given Sunday Varsity Blues The Replacements Brian's Song The Longest Yard Necessary Roughness

I went with Remember the Titans...another true story.
I am no mambie pambie, but I get choked up on that one too. Their training camp reminded me of my experiences in boot camp dealing with new experiences living with other cultures and how we eventually came together to be a team (unit) and even good friends in some cases.

It's a tie for me between Any Given Sunday and (my fill in vote for "Other") Friday Night Lights. What they both have in common that I gravitate towards is the on-field action that they zero in on is super high quality. The collisions, X's and O's, bottom of the pile violence, and overall grittiness put those two above all the others. Call me a hater, but Disney just ruins anything for me so Remember the Titans isn't number one. The on-field action was just a bit too cheesy and unrealistic for me to get behind. I voted in Friday Night Lights for its actually ending in defeat. That's exactly how my high school football career went down (Ford Field in 2007). So it's just so balanced and seems to show both sides of the coin better.

I liked "All The Right Moves", but Leah Thompson might have had something to do with that. For the most part, I don't think Hollywood does football very well, possibly because all the actors young enough to be football players look like girls.
Am I the only one who thinks "Rudy" sucked?

1. Rudy 2. Heaven Can Wait (Warren Beatty, late 1970s). Fun movie, saw it a couple years ago on cable.

Rudy. It wasn't really about football though.
I suppose I should watch Brian's Song at some point. I was named Brian after my mom watched that movie when she was pregnant. And oddly enough, my wife went to Brian Piccolo Elementary school. AND I have the DVD in the house.
Maybe soon.

Oops - I screwed up. I voted for The Longest Yard.............but it should have been North Dallas Forty.
And the only reason I can give is because it's the only one I've ever seen.

Rudy is only good for the last 30 minutes.
As a whole, Rudy is a very overrated movie, IMO.

I was torn; think the cheerleaders are hilarious in Replacements. But just below that is Any Given Sunday. What a fun list to work through if there is a lockout and we are jonesing for pigskin.

There is probably 25 movies in the Pig skin category, but nothing can replace goings on leading into training camp.
Too many questions and FA to sign to have a lockout.

Disagree with this, but if you replaced Rudy with Remember the Titans I'd agree 100%.
The Replacements is a guilty pleasure I can watch over and over again.
Of the movies listed that and Rudy are at the top of my list.

The Express (How could we not have a movie about Ernie Davis on here???)

that, and half of the movie is fabricated.
which is fine, but just don't try and fool us by saying the whole thing was based on a true story.
they never put their jerseys on the coach's desk. and he was a well-known boxer on campus, so he wasn't the puny wimp they made him out to be.
i actually voted replacements. it's a good story, kind of cheesy, but i was very entertained.
if i had to pick a second, it would probably be friday night lights. thought that was well done.

Well I tried to keep it down to 10 selections, but I also could not remember them all of the top of my head. I'm not sure if I ever saw The Express, cuz it's not ringing a bell.
I have to look for that one the next time I look for movies.

Great Movie......don't know how the younger generations feel but for my time it was right up there with "Jim Thorp All American" I think it was called.
I guess we should start a separate poll for the Classics but I made no such criteria.
Love me some classics.

People are talking about how Rudy was changed too much.
I saw Friday Night Lights after reading the book, which was outstanding btw, and I was sorely disappointed. They changed quite a bit.

The book is much different from the movie which is much different than the TV show. I liked all 3 but as a standalone movie, the movie is my favorite sports movie of all time.

My son, who is only 14, reminded me to include HIS favorite football movie, We Are Marshall... I think I would have to put that in my top 3.. with Remember the Titans and Blind Side... I'm thinking I have something for "true stories"...

We are Marshall is another really good movie.
Two more that came to mind after you said that are Invincible and Radio, Two other true stories.

I liked Remember the Titans and the Program. I also liked Horse Feathers with the Marx Brothers (though not a football movie, per se, it does have to do with football). Oh, and another one I really liked was Invincible with Mark Wahlberg. That's the one about Vince Papale. IMO, one of the best movie soundtracks I've heard.

Well at least I am getting ideas for movies to watch this offseason

Personally, I thought "Leatherheads" was the best football-themed movie I've seen to date. I also liked "Remember the Titans."

Love "Friday Night Lights", but it goes much deeper than just being about football. Plus, the music by Explosions in the Sky is absolutely wonderful.
