Anyone ever been to Tybee Island, Georgia? We are thinking about taking a little vacation in March or so, and we've heard some people talk about Tybee.
Anyone have any experience there?

Never been there, but we've been to Jekyll Island a couple times on the way home from Florida, and the trouble is that March weather in Ga is a crapshoot. It might be sunny and 70, or it might be 52 and rainy - we've seen it both ways, but more cold and rain than nice. If a March vacay on the beach is what you want, you might want to get south of Daytona - the more south the better. A little later in the year, I'm sure Georgia's shore would be great.

Well, I'll say that we aren't really going for a traditional beach getaway. We do that in the summer.
This is more of a "just get away" type vacation, but somewhere where, if it is nice outside, we can go sit on the beach.
My wife and I love the ocean, so even if the weather isn't that great, we'd be perfectly content to just sit on a deck or in the house and watch the waves.
Definitely more of a mental health getaway.

At this point in the winter, I can definitely relate. We'll be heading south to Florida in about 3 weeks. I can't wait to get out of this Cleveland weather for a week or so.

Yeah, you know things are getting bad when you think "boy, it sure would be nice to see some rain instead of snow."

I have been there a couple of times, though the last was maybe 1992 or so.
It's nice, and it has really wide beaches....seemed you could walk in 100 yards of sand beach before hitting the water, and that wasn't low tide either.
Sorry I can't tell you more since it has been maybe 20 years, but it had all of your typical beach stuff....places to shop, eat, drink, be merry, and I would imagine it has only grown over the years.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Not sure we'll do much surfing in March, but who knows. Give me a few cocktails and I might just try it!

I remember going to some seafood place (either family-style or buffet.. can't remember) and it was really good and I absolutely stuffed myself. That was... 2000?

I once met an idiot gymnast from Tybee Island. I say idiot b/c he had gotten a scholarship to OSU for gymnastics---then one night he was partying.....drinking.........ON A ROOF?!?!? Long story short---cops came, he panicked and tried to slide down the downspout----which ripped off the side of the house and he landed on a fence breaking a bunch of ribs and puncturing a lung. He was a real bright one.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

And being such a short hop to Savannah, make sure you take the wife to River Street. It's a must see kinda place because of all the history, besides the River Street Sweets main location is there. (yummy chocolates and prailines)

My wife can stay at the beach house with the baby. I'll go get the chocolate myself!!!
I've never been to Savannah, and I love me some good history, so I'll probably cruise around a bit there.

I know many of you have been waiting with baited breath (which is kind of gross) to see how our visit to Tybee Island went.
We got there last Saturday and left yesterday (Thursday the 31st). I have to say, it was really nice!
Granted, the temps were in the 50s and rainy the whole time we were there (the week before, 80s and sunny, this coming week, 80s and sunny).
But, the place we stayed, called Tybee Lights, was right on the beach, and we could hear the waves as we lay in bed. And, there was a lot of room in the living room for our son to crawl around. Also, there was this concrete roman numeral 21 there, for some reason. I mean, who can't use a concrete number?
We went to eat at place called Marlin Monroe's. The seafood was very good, though the live music left a bit to be desired. Then again, I wasn't as drunk as many of the people there, so that probably didn't help. I heard a guy out of tune and they heard the sweet melodies of the Electric Light Orchestra. Maybe next year I'll buy a bottle of Jack and the guy will sound like Tony Bennett.
We went into Savannah 2 days, and we didn't see half of everything we wanted. With an 18 month old, it was kind of tough since we had to worry about his nap times, etc. But, we walked around the city a little. Well, my wife walked around the city a little. I got about halfway through and realized I had never locked the car, so I had to walk back, lock it, then trek back to find them. Way to go moron!
The City Market area was really neat. We got some really good chocolate at the Savannah Candy store, or whatever it was called. Then, we went to dinner at a place called Blowin' Smoke BBQ. The ribs weren't quite fall off the bone, but man, the BBQ sauce was tremendous.
The next day, we went to the Railroad Museum and then the Savannah Historical center. It was pretty neat.
All in all, it was a fun trip. Tybee at this time of year wasn't that crowded, which is exactly what I wanted.
One cool thing was watching all the huge ships come in from the ocean and head for the river. Unfortunately, I don't believe any carried Russian mail order brides.
We also took some pictures of the native girls, but they weren't developed. But we're going back next year!!

Sorry to here about the bad weather, always bums me out when that happens. Especially when the weather is good the week after you leave. Sounds like you made the most out of it. I may have read this part wrong........ Quote:

lol, that's a Groucho Marx joke from the movie Animal Crackers.
A couple other amusing tidbits.
On the way down, we stopped at a hotel in scenic Dobson, NC. I drove into downtown Dobson to go to Subway for dinner.
The lady in front of me wanted cucumbers on her sandwich. The kid working there said they were all out. I swear to God, it was like he told her "please stand there while I remove one of your kidneys." For the rest of her order, she threw in a little barb about them not having cucumbers.
Do you want any other veggies? Well, if you don't have cucumbers, I guess my whole meal is ruined (actual words).
Do you want any chips or cookies? Why would I want that crap if you don't have any cucumbers? (actual words)
That will be $10.00 (for 2 footlong subs). Don't I get a discount because you don't have any cucumbers? (actual words).
It was hilarious.
Well, on the way back today, we stopped in Sissonville, WV at a Subway.
As I said on my Facebook status, the best way to describe the women who were working there was "glacial", both in size and speed.
I am not a small man, so I'm not making fun. It is a fact that all 3 women were huge.
And, I'm pretty sure these 3 would make a 3-toed sloth look like Usain Bolt.
I got 2 sandwiches (one for me and one for my wife), and it took TWENTY minutes. The lady doing the veggies was doing it with one hand, and her other hand was kind of held out for balance.
I got bacon on my sub, and the one lady put it in the microwave for I think 3 minutes. When she got it out, it looked like 4 small pieces of black plastic. She said "oh, I guess I hit the wrong button", and proceeded to take about 5 minutes getting more bacon out and walking it the mile and a half (aka 4 feet) to the microwave.
