Alleged run-in leads to assault charge against HaynesworthAssociated Press
Updated: Feb. 13, 2011 at 07:43 p.m.

RESTON, Va. -- Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been formally charged with misdemeanor assault stemming from a road-rage encounter.

Fairfax County police said the 29-year-old Haynesworth and his attorney appeared at a police station Saturday morning. Haynesworth signed a summons warrant charging him with assault and left.

Haynesworth is scheduled to appear in court March 31.

Police say a 38-year-old man told investigators he was assaulted by the driver of a pickup truck who was tailgating him Feb. 2. The driver later was identified as Haynesworth.

Simple assault is punishable in Virginia by not more than a year in jail and a fine of $2,500 or less.

Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, has said the player is innocent and that the accuser is seeking fame and money.

Haynesworth accused of sexual assault
Posted by Mike Florio on February 14, 2011, 2:31 PM EST

On the same weekend that Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth surrendered on allegations of assault arising from road rage, Haynesworth allegedly committed sexual assault of a waitress at the W Hotel in D.C.

NBC Washington reports that police are investigating the claim.

Said agent Chad Speck, in a statement to NBC Washington: “There seems to be no truth to these allegations. We are currently evaluating facts and considering our own legal action against those involved.”

Regardless of whether Haynesworth is innocent, a guy who has been such a lightning rod for controversy needs to steer clear of any situation that could result in the making of true or embellished claims. That said, there’s a chance that the current allegations have been flat-out fabricated.

Time, as always, will tell.

I'm not football expert....but even I knew he was trouble. He missed 40% of his teams games with injury, he wasn't motivated in the ones he did play, he stomped a guys head with his cleats, and then had ONE great season in his contract year. I didn't want him then and I wasn't surprised the worst NFL owner gave him the world.

And then, when Haynesworth began acting like himself, the Redskins chose to make an example out of him instead of cutting ties when they had a chance. They deserve each other.

I'd assume both of these allegations get dropped.
