Is Hulk Hogan still around? I see him on commercials for lowlife rental places once in a while ...... lol
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

A few years ago, with the car crash stunts, 3 story falls, violence against women, and acts that could kill a person if they were immitated, I determined not to watch it anymore.
Another thing, I didn't like the way the McMahons had taken the story, and I wish there were more alternative options, at the time I stopped watching.
Did you notice that they spend more time talking, and not wrestling, on that brand of wrestling, then on any other time or brand of wrestling. ( I have no facts to back that up, it just Seems that way to me.)
It makes money, its entertainment, but it doesn't set a good example.
I haven't watched the stuff since there was WWF & WCW. Hogan had just left to go to WCW and it had become the more popular of the two. Then when WWF bought out WCW I pretty much stopped watching. My father in-law watches it still and I've seen bits here and there at his house and thought the product had gone down hill. The matches seem quicker and there was a lot more soap opera stuff going on.
As for the Rock, is he back full time or is he just doing this to generate more buzz for Fast Five?
Man, so many people in this thread are just hating. I loved The Rock, haven't seen wrestling in years, might have to check it out to see what's up with the WWE these days.
I haven't watched since I was kid and thought it was real. I loved watching NWA wrestling then....Dusty Roads, Road Warriors, Rock n Roll Express and the Four Horsemen!! Then I found it was fake and stopped watching.

Not missing much.. It's more soap opera now than wrestling. You'd probably see more wrestling on Days of Our Lives, than on WWE.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Or on Jerry Springer ... but at least the acting and makeup is better in WWE.
I watched WCW back in the day, but tired of it quickly ... get Goldberg to comeback too ... and then face him off against the Rock ... and then maybe I sneak into somebody else's pay-per-view party.

I'm not really picking on you for making the comment...more picking on the comment itself, because I hear/heard it a lot. And the following argument from my side goes out to all people viewing this thread.
Most other entertainment is fake too. Did Frodo really drop the one ring into the fire of Mount Doom? Did Kozmo Kramer really try returning a pair of pants at a store he was wearing? Did Rick Vaughn really play for the Cleveland Indians and take them to the World Series? Did Kristen really shoot a guy named JR Ewing in a Dallas suburb? Does Walker Texas Ranger really punch and kick the bad guys on his show?
No. It's all fake. The fighting, the acting, the dialog, the action, and the story. It's called acting. Why can't people enjoy wrestling as a show with good actors? It's the same thing. They all act like it's real...trying to get us as viewers to buy into the show. Why does it have to be "real" to enjoy? We all enjoy other things that are fake.
Now, I haven't watched wrestling for over a decade. I had went to a few bars to watch some PPV events with my work buddies near '99-00. They were into it and it was fun to grab some adult beverages with the guys even though I wasn't into the stuff anymore. And before that, I haven't truly watched/cared about wrestling since I was 8 to 11 years old.
Ok...getting off my soapbox.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Probably because they pitch it as real ... Reality TV shows wouldn't have nearly the appeal if everyone found out that they were completely scripted (and trust me, I have my doubts about many shows).
If you watch it from a "this is a soap opera for men" kind of angle, it can be pretty entertaining at times. Then again, if somebody made a new thread to say, "Oh my gawdz!! Victor came back on Young and the Restless!" we'd probably laugh them off the forums.

I get that....but do the cast and crew of Breaking Bad or CSI Miami pitch it to be fake? IMO, they all act as if it's real too. We don't see them out of character ever.
I guess what I'm saying....say George Lucas announces he's going to make three more Star Wars movies and is bringing Darth Vader back to life. We'd all be excited or upset about it but nobody would be jumping into the thread saying, "guys, there is no galaxy far, far away and Darth Vader isn't real. It's fake. Why do you even care? Why are you even going to watch, it's not real."
Being a movie, it's implied it's fake, scripted, and not real. And nobody cares, they buy-in and enjoy. When it's wrestling, the non-wrestling fans go to great lengths to attempt to teach the group that its fake and they're childish for watching.
Where is the line that makes wrestling lame because it's fake, but Star Wars is cool, and the acting in The King's Speech amazing?
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Quote: You don't run into that many people that really think Darth Vader is an actual, living person.
Have you seen some of the people at a Star Trek/Star Wars convention? You might change your tune a bit.
We went to one of each a few years back, just for shoots and giggles. We weren't prepared for what we experienced.
1. A guy asked leonard Nemoy what is was like being on the Enterprise (and he replied, "the ship wasn't real, next question"). 2. A different guy asked how much Leonard cried when the ship exploded in a certain movie (his response was, "seriously, it was a movie people, the ship wasn't real"). 3. A random guy came up to my wife and asked her to come over his house to see the Star Trek Bridge he built in his basement.
Funny.

Really? I thought that when the WWE came out and said it was just entertainment (they did it so they didn't have to abide by some sporting rules) the last of the true believers disappeared. I guess there are some really dumb people still out there.

And, doesn't WWE stand for World Wrestling ENTERTAINMENT?

They changed it from WWF, because they got sued by the World Wildlife Fund. Not because they didn't want to abide by some sporting rules.

I realize that is why they had to change their name. I thought that wrestling was going to be forced to be licensed by state athletic commissions. I can't seem to find it anywhere so maybe I just imagined it.
IIRC, the WWF was going to have Wrestlemania or something in New Jersey, and they could not because the NJ Sports Commission wouldn't give them a permit because they have pre-determined outcomes, and thus are not a sport. The WWF fought and fought, and then finally switched to "sports entertainment" instead to get around it.
When I lived in Cleveland, my roommate was a HUGE wrasslin' fan. He loved Rick Flair ... and man ... I wanted to kill him about the 3000th time I heard "woo!". lol

So, is he back for good? Is he going to "rassle"? Or is he just hosting Wrestlemania? I hope he is going to keep making movies. I've enjoyed a few of his roles.
The Rundown Walking Tall Race to Witch Mountain Be Cool
And I can't wait to see Fast Five. The Rock is a pretty good Action Actor that can also provide comedic relief.
Since I was a little kid, 40 years ago, Rasslin' was always advertised as an "exhibition" because it was not a real sporting event. It was known to anyone who cared to look that this was scripted entertainment, SFAIK this goes back to the 1950's.
Bobo Brazil, The Sheik, Johnny Valentine, Wild Bull Curry. Characters in a play that are portrayed by new players every few years.
The few folks who believe that Klingons are real are generally regarded to be pretty strange.

You left off Tooth Fairy
Joe Thomas made Justin Timberlake change his name. He didn't want wusses to have the same initials...
