I can imagine why... he's brash, loud and obnoxious. Like the T.O. of Tight Ends.
However, he pretty much stays out of trouble and can play the game. He isn't worth the money that his hype will almost surely generate, but he is darn good.

IMO, Shockey is at least the equal of our best TE. I'd pull the trigger.

Brash, loud and obnoxious are good adjectives and another is DECLINING.
He's 31 years old and on the downturn.....missing games and number of receptions going down each of the last few years. He's the type (IMHO) that you only go after if you are 1 or 2 pieces of the puzzle away from ascending to the top.

Shockey in an offense QB'ed by Drew Brees and coordinated by Sean Payton:
41 receptions, 408 yards, 3 TD's.
Watson in an offense QB'ed by Delhomme, then Wallace, then McCoy, then Delhomme, then McCoy, and coordinated by Brian Daboll:
68 receptions, 763 yards, 3 TD's.
They are also the same age. Shockey has also never played a full 16 game season.
Watson > Shockey
