Seriously though, he did his job, went overseas to a combat zone, and did so without complaining. Twice. (well, once was to Jordan, but I believe it was a Patriot Missle battery during that tour) He has definitely got my respect for that.

OK... Round Two

1. Sting: he's had such an eclectic, varied career... and always attracted the best musicians for whatever project he was about to undertake. He could regale the party with stories of his time with The Police, jamming with branford masalis, Omar Hakim, kenny Kirkland, et al... and his forays into other music with Cheb Malmi and musicians from "Songs From The Labyrith." Hard to belive that An English Teacher at a private school could become a worldwide household name in music. I might be a little star-struck around him.

2. Charlie Rose: He's so well-read, informed,... and has met/interviewed so many world-changing people, he might be more interesting than half the people he's hosted on his show.

3. Bernie Kosar: He seems like a guy you could have a beer with and be totally relaxed around... as he astounds you with stories from his playing days, breaking down D's and holding forth on the evolving game of pro football. I'd be so enthralled, I wouldn't have time o be start-struck. Besides- we all know that 'Bernie's one of us"....

4. Johnny Depp: It might be a challenge, because he can be mercurial and secretive.... but if I was around at a time when he opened up about acting (and what it meant to him, how he does it, etc.) it would be revelatory. I regard him as one of the Heavy Hitters of his generation. I'd pick his brain about his process, why he chooses the roles he does... and how he became so damned good at his chosen craft (Excellence infatuates me). Knowing him, it would have to be long after all the other guests had left for home... and it was just a few folks who didn't make him want to 'leave his walls up.' One-on one' would be the best... drink the rest under the table, and just talk into the wee hours.

5. Bill Cosby: A hero of mine since childhood. He made me laugh, he pioneered in the world of TV, showing millions of Black Americans a strong, positive role ("Scotty"- the 'brains' of the team, opposite Robert Culp's Kelly Robinson- the chairmatic 'brawnin the hit show: "I Spy") He further inspired me years later, when he stepped away from his role as entertainer to become an advocate/ spokesperson for Black Self-Empowerment. Many of his statements were controversial at the time he made them, but they rabg true to me, because I'd been raised to believe in the exact same priciples/philosophies. An evening spent in his company would make more than just my day- they'd probably make my life. I'd fight through being 'star-struck,' because the intellectual payoff would be worth it. (...not to mention the "Good Son" points I'd make, upon seeing My Parents [R.I.P.] again... hehehe...)

I don't know if ANY of my coveted guests would get along at a dinner party in which they would all be found together. That isn't the point. I'm the host... and I can script this 'fantasy party' any way I want. It's all about me... and MY needs, you know. Perhaps each of these famous persons would be the only celebrity guest at a party that's mostly populated by my close friends. Perhaps they'd all be together at a celebrity blow-out together. Doesn't matter. Whom would YOU party with... and why?

(The 'why' is important... because it tells us fellow DT'ers a li'l sump'in' about you. If we're gonna be a community, we might as well get to know each other- right?

Had surgery on my finger today - not typing so well.

1. Jim Hamill - probably best known for being the lead of "The Kingsmen Quartet." Awesome man.Anthony Burger would be up there as well - best religious piano player ever........check him out. (of course, those guys are both dead now........Anthony died way too soon)

2. Kenny Chesney. awesome music.

3. Darious Rucker - awesome singer.

4. Bernie - just because.

Clem you old dawg you. Had to get me thinking about who would be on my top 5 list. Like others have said, this is definitely a difficult list but here goes:

1. David Bowie- to talk and dine with this man would be a dream come true. His talents are decade spanning and would love to pick his mind about music. (all music since he does a lot of different genre's of music)

2. Yo Yo Ma - one of the most incredible classically trained musicians to grace a stage and also because he had an honor that not many can speak on. (He played for President Kennedy)

3. Sarah Brightman - one of the most glorious operatic singers to come along in decades. Her voice is incredible and her talent is uncomparable.

4. Anne McCaffrey and Mercedes Lackey - Both great fantasy science fiction novelists. This way I could get pointers on how to get past the damn writers block.

5. Steven Hawking - one of the greatest scientific minds in history.

I would be more than willing to sit them down and provide a homecooked meal for them just to pick their brains. Music is my first love with literature a close (very close) second. I would also make sure to have a tape recorder going so that I could keep the pointers fresh in my mind from the writers.

I could make a list as long as I am tall of people that I would like to sit down with and just chat. Robin Williams is one of those that would make that list.

I think that my second list would have to include some folks that most do not know who they are unless they have been in that "world".

1. Rabbit Bartholomew - At one point in time was considered the greatest surfer to hit the big waves. Would also have to include a few current greats in that catagory since it would be a beach party I would pick his brain and also talk to him what it was like to lost at sea and considered dead.

2. Stacy Peralta - One of the Godfather's of skateboarding. I grew up following surfing and skateboarding even though I lived in Ohio when they were creating what everyone thought was a fad.

3. Brian Deegan - Deegs is one of the whackiest and best freestyle MTX racers. I have watched him and even was witness (even tho it was by way of television) to his live crash at a Winter X game. (would have to invite a few others from the XGames fame)

4. Vin Diesel - for more reasons than I can even begin to explain on here. He facinates me not only because of his pleasing visage but also because of his intelligence and his mother is a "gifted" person.

5. Johnny Depp - Clem you got this one dead bang. He is one person that would be so much fun to talk with and hear how he comes up with his ideas for characters. I remember when he first hit the scene in 21-Jump Street. Of all the actors/actresses from that show, he has had the longest lived career of them.

Of course I would also like to have a beach party and invite all my fellow Dawgs to party and get to know each other. Clem you are one of the people that would top my list because of your music background and love of the Browns. Oh, btw, you can mack on this Dawgette anytime
