I have to post this story. I went out to eat last night and I walked away totally impressed with this particular establishment. I actually think that this was the best restaurant I have ever been to--ever. So while you read this account---I am wondering what are some of the very best places you have ever eaten? And what was it like?

Last night my brother and I decided to take our parents out to dinner. They don't go out a whole lot, so we decided to take them somewhere nice to eat. After searching the internet for a bit and debating on the location, we finally settled on an establishment.

We arranged to meet the rents at The Rosewood Grill in Hudson, OH. When we sat down, I noticed that they were playing the Grateful Dead throughout the restaurant. I knew we were at the right place.

Everything just got better and better. They had Chimay on draft--so that is what my brother, father, and I all got to drink. My mother, as usual, only wanted water. IMO, it's pretty rare to find Chimay on draft anywhere. This is actually the first establishment I have ever encountered it at.

We all added a salad to our meal for an additional 4 bucks. And it was by far, by far, the best salad I have ever had. It was tremendously fresh and light with some sort of really delicate house dressing that was simply put--amazing. Thinking back, I am pretty sure it was some variety of balsamic.

I followed that up with Walleye, my brother and father both got steak, and my mother picked the Idaho Brook Trout.

My Brother had recently dined at the Chophouse downtown---where he said the food was awful and overpriced---so he was really dying for a good steak. He had ordered the strip steak as rare as possible---and that is exactly how it came. He said it blew Chophouse out of the universe. I tasted his steak and it was pretty damn good.

My Walleye came out slightly crisp on the outside and tender & mild on the inside. It was severed with some Macaroni and Cheese---which I thought was kind of weird. But it turned out to be a lobster based cheese sauce which was really really good. It was incredibly rich and complimented the mild and crispy fish perfectly.

We all had sampled a little of each others food a bit and came to the conclusion that everything here was more than great---it was awesome. I have never been so impressed with a restaurant before. And the 4 of us ate with an appetizer and dessert for under $150!!!

It was incredible.

I just wanted to let you all in on this place. So if you are in the area----and you are looking for an amazing place to go to dinner for a special occasion---or maybe just a really good dinner. This is the place to go.

Anyone have any opinion on this place---or have you been out to another place where you walked away extremely impressed?

River City Grill in Cuyahoga Falls. Great food and better prices!

Get the Fuzz Buster burger! A Big Mac only 10 times better!
Great sweet tea. Very casual.

Family of four can eat for 25 bucks or so depending.

Commanders Palace in New Orleans - thanks to 'Peen for the recommendation. One of the best meals I've ever had and I've eaten at some pretty nice places during my travels for work.

In Toledo, for the price, you cannot beat Mancy's Steakhouse. I've had slightly better steaks but the price for what you get at Mancy's cannot be beat IMO.

The Rosewood was Turner's Mill in a prior incarnation. Turner's Mill was pretty fabulous. I'll have to remember about the Rosewood Grill next time I'm looking for some place nice for dinner.

My recommendation: Bricco (there's one in Akron and one in Cleveland). Don't go there thinking you'll have a quick meal. They don't rush you out of your table. They space your courses so you have time to get a little hungry again after you've eaten your salad or appetizer before your entrée.

The food was delish. The husband and I went with our best friends before seeing Blue Man Group in Cleveland. For appetizers we had the fried dill pickles (YUM) and the calamari. The calamari were great since most times calamari ends up with the culinary appeal of a rubber band. These were cooked perfectly.

Hubby got the grilled sirloin steak. Cooked to his perfection (medium rare) and the side dish was really good. It was a smoked mozzarella potato cake. So different, but so tasty.

I had the pan seared shrimp and scallops. The risotto side dish was terrific. The shrimp and scallop s were seared well

I cannot recall what our friends had, I just remembered that they really enjoyed it.

Blue Canyon Kitchen and Tavern is a great place in Twinsburg, OH. Great steaks and great atmosphere. From the outside, it looks like a log-cabin lodge and on in the inside it is just great. Definitely highly recommended.

Best meal I've ever eaten was at Windows On The World, at the top of the WTC...the most amazing steak, and this is from someone who hasn't eaten meat in a decade.

My current favorite is Chrissy Hynde's VegiTerranean on Furnace St. in Akron.

in cleveland:

melt - i've been there, it's good. meets the hype. i hate waiting an hour and a half for a seat and another hour and a half for my food though.

great lakes brewing company. the food is ok, but the bar and atsmosphere is great.

muldoon's - great little place on 185th on the east side, anyone who has spent significant time over there knows muldoon's. my girlfriend's favorite place to go and get food and drinks when we visit town.

golden bowl in little italy. been there a few times, great food.

in chicago:

kuma's corner. cool little bar near wrigleyville that plays heavy metal music and serves up really good burgers named after metal bands. the burgers all come on those pretzel roll buns.

the flame, nice little steakhouse in the suburbs (countryside) that i go to once a year with my employer. really good stuff.

aodake (darien), japanese place near my apartment that does hibachi and sushi, not bad, we went there for valentine's day

claim jumper (lombard) i guess these are big on the west coast, unbelievable steak. they make their own beer too, really good red. kinda like killian's

I do enjoy Blue Canyon as well. My Dad really likes it, so when I am back at home visiting the family, we often head over to Blue Canyon. Good food and great atmosphere.

I'll second the Melt mention. Just went for the first time this past Friday. The wait was a little long for the time of day etc. But, the food was well worth it.

Oh Man,, my wife and I had Brunch at Windows to the world... Back in 89 I think it was.. beautiful view of the city and Ellis Island and Lady Liberty. Food was fantastic. The table we sat at was the one featured in an article on the cover of the USA Today on 9/12, made me wanna cry.

Locally, my favorite resturant is the Crossings Cafe in Aurora

http://crossingscafe.net/

Going there tonight to build my own burger.. Steaks are out of this world, prime rib to die for. A tad expensive but worth it.

Yup, I can agree with Melt. My wife got the Tokyo Tuna Melt and said it was the best sandiwch she's ever eaten. I got the Lake Erie Monster. I'll try my best Comic Book Guy voice from the Simpson's, "Best. Fish Sandwich. Ever." Seriously. Come on, jalepeno tarter sauce?! That's not fair. And their beer list is 6 pages long! I would ride out there right now if it was warm enough. I've been sporting their T-Shirt since I was there. Man, would I like them to open one in Chicago. Maybe I should?

Funny, Kuma's Korner has been on my short list of place to eat for about two months. I'm big into burgers and the rock band names are cool. We're going out tonight, I'll push for it.

Tecalitlan Restaurant (Chicago and Wolcott - Ukrainian Village) - Great Burritos! I've never seen a place where they offer two-meat burritos. Steak+Chorizo! Plus they have parking around back.

Goose Island Brewery (Shef and Clybourn) - Amazing beer and their from-scratch pretzel appetizer is the best (w/ cheese and stone ground mustard dips). Fish and chips are awesome.

Well, I'll have to disagree with the both of you. Been there once. Spent $95 between me and my wife and we both left hungry. I was not impressed with the portion size at all. Food was good but when I pay good money I expect to be full.

Recently we went to Benihannas in Beachwood and had a great time. Food was great and watching a Japanese Chef slice and dice your meal in front of you is always cool.

I have also been to Steak on a Stone in Fairlawn. Excellent cuts of meat. Pretty pricey though. Your meal is brought to you on a hot lava stone and you cut off a piece and you basically cook it on the stone to your liking. You also get a few dipping sauces. Some people don't like it because you are paying some good money and you are cooking your meat. But to me it was a fun experience to do once.

I went with the Parmageddon. Pierogi, kraut, grilled onions and cheese. YUM! We got my munchkin the grilled PB and banana - heaven! My hubs got the Monte Cristo - great! My Mom-in-law got the mushroom melt and loved it. We all had left overs and I managed to reheat them very well, including the fries so nothing was soggy.

I love their sweet slaw! OMG!

Portions are HUGE! We spent $50 for the 4 of us and had food enough for 2 days for 5 people (my father - in - law was feeling crappy that day so he didn't come with us, he just partook of the leftovers).

i went over the summer, got the godfather, it was incredible. i could only eat half, but unfortunately, i left the other half in the car the next day in the middle of august. so i didn't get to enjoy that other half.

at least the ride back to chicago smelled like lasagna the whole way though.

Certainly not as exquisite as some of the places already mentioned, but there is a really good restaurant in Akron called the Akron Family Restaurant. It's standard restaurant stuff, but the prices are really pretty good, and the food is excellent.

Perfect for a reasonable lunch if you're ever in the Akron area.

Middendorf's up in the Ponchatoula area (northern end of Lake Pontchatrain) is the absolute king of cajun, IMO.

Their shrimp & crab gumbo is best described as "looks like mud, tastes like gold". The catfish is the most insanely melt-in-the-mouth, lighter than air fish I've ever had.
The crab cakes are worth killing for. The restaurant is right on the water, so it isn't uncommon for the food to come out of the boat and into the pan.

Don's Seafood up in Hammond was really outstanding as well.

Oh my! I *heart* Schmidts too!

In Columbus, I love the Cameron Mitchell places. I also love the Blue Nile (Ethiopian).

Up here, we're regulars at Otani Steakhouse. Great Japanese tepanyaki-style place (think Benihana's, but cheaper) Plus the Entertainment Book card gets us a buy one get one free. Love Hibachi Japan, but it's too expensive. So, Otani gets my business.

I also love the Saffron Patch for Indian food.

In Colorado:

Denver: The Wynkoop. It's a brewery/bar. BEST EVER ROOTBEER! Their soft pretzels and beer mustard...wonderful.

Minturn (Vail/Beaver Creek area): for breakfast, the Turntable. Wonderfully good greasy spoon fair. For dinner: the Saloon - AWESOME steaks.

Beaver Creek: for lunch: Blue Moose Pizza. I love their Winter Pizza. OMG!

Glenwood Springs area (half way between Vail and Aspen): GREAT dinners at the Hotel Colorado - where Teddy Roosevelt was a frequent visitor and the teddy bear was invented and named for him

Freshest fish I've ever had in my life: Buffalo Valley in Glenwood Springs. I swear, they fished my trout out of the Roaring Fork river running through the property about 5 minutes before they served it up to me.

Yes! I work right across the street from them, I'm a regular for their lunch buffet

Also, it isn't really a restaurant, but a food truck: Umami Moto here in Cleveland is phenomenal. Hit 'em up on facebook to get updates on where the truck will be serving next. They are at my work place almost every other Tuesday.

I am in Toledo quite a bit - grew up in Sylvania. My parents still live in the Toledo area (Holland). My brother and I hosted my parents 40th wedding anniversary at Mancy's - plus they are open for lunch now on Tuesday (think it's Tuesday) and they have a steak sandwich for $8 or $9. I just took it off the bun and ate it like I would for dinner. Mmmmmm.

Wink's in Barberton.

Pretty standard fare and it's cheap. If you want a good burger and the basic apps like deep fried mushrooms etc. this is the place. As a bonus in the spring and summer they always have a cruise in for all the car buffs.

Nothing like having a great burger, walking out the door and looking at classics.
