http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/03/cleveland_browns_placing_secon.htmlCleveland Browns placing second-round tender on TE Evan Moore, according to source Published: Wednesday, March 02, 2011, 10:21 PM Updated: Wednesday, March 02, 2011, 10:22 PM By Tony Grossi, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns haven't announced which of their pending restricted free agents they will try to keep off the market, but an NFL source said that one of them is tight end Evan Moore. Moore was given the second-round tender, according to the source. It is an indication of Moore's rising status in the West Coast offense under new coach Pat Shurmur. The second-round tender means a team would have to give up a second-round draft pick to sign Moore. It is worth about $1.9 million to Moore, who made the NFL minimum of $395,000 last year. Moore technically is a restricted free agent, even though he has spent only two seasons on an active NFL roster and one year on an injured reserve list, said the source. Moore led the Browns with a 20.1 yards per catch average last season, with 16 catches for 322 yards and one touchdown. He suffered a concussion in Game 2 against Kansas City and missed the last three games with a hip injury. At the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis last week, Shurmur said pass-catching tight ends "are critical to the success of our offense." He said the team feels good about starter Benjamin Watson and remarked that Moore "is a good-looking player." In 17 games with the Browns over two seasons, Moore has 28 catches for 480 yards for a 17.1-yard average. The Browns have until 11:59 p.m. Thursday to give tenders to other restricted free agents, such as fullback Lawrence Vickers, linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, linebacker Jason Trusnik, safety Abe Elam, receiver Chansi Stuckey and cornerback Eric Wright.

I hope this is true. I would like to see Jackson, Elam and Vickers all get 2nd round tenders as well.

LOL, if everytime the ball is thrown his way (or nearly everytime) he makes the catch and get good yardage,, then the answer is, throw him the ball more
I like this move...

Its hard to catch a lot of passes sitting on the bench. The guy makes big catches and we will probably be seeing a lot of the 2 TE offense with Moore and Watson on the field together. It really gives shurmur some big targets to work with. we can go 2 RB at times, 2 TE at times. It should create some mismatches but it is an odd setup as our Hillis, Moore and Watson are our best hands guys. Bottom line, Colt has Moore confidence

With the unkown of the CBA I hope we tender DQ, Wright, Vickers and Elam.

You're looking at the small picture, Brownie.
Evan Moore has great hands (even for a TE) and he'll get more use in the WCO that Shurmur is implementing.
I like this move.

Cleveland Browns extend second-round tender to linebacker D'Qwell Jackson CLEVELAND -- The Browns have extended a second-round tender to linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, a league source told the Plain Dealer. It means that a team signing him in free agency would have to give the Browns a second-round pick under the current rules of the collective bargaining agreement. Jackson, a sixth-year pro, would likely become an unrestricted free agent under a new labor agreement. Jackson, who missed the final 11 games of 2009 and all of 2010 with two separate torn pectoral tendons, would be a great fit at inside 'backer in the Browns new 4-3 scheme, according to Browns general manager Tom Heckert. Amounts for tenders have not yet been set, but players with five accrued seasons received one-year tenders of $1.809 million last season. The Browns also were believed to have tendered tight Evan Moore, a source said. They were still working Thursday on tendering their other eligible players, such as Lawrence Vickers, Jason Trusnik, Chansi Stuckey, Abe Elam and Eric Wright. http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/03/cleveland_browns_extend_second.html

I'm confused. Seems like they should have been able to just fill in a check box on NFLContracts.com or something like that. What is there to "work on"?

Mary Kay and Schefter both just reported we signed DQ to a one year, incentive laden contract for just over 4.5 mil.

I can think of one thing.. how about long term deals with these guys? that would take more time and make it more difficult. Especially since they are completely unaware if there will be a cap and what it would be if.
So it may not be as simple as just checking a box on a NFL Form.
what made you think it was that easy anyway?

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2011/03/cleveland_browns_extend_second.htmlCLEVELAND -- The Browns signed linebacker D'Qwell Jackson to a one-year deal worth up to about $4.5 million, a league source told the Plain Dealer. It's an incentive-laden contract that enables Jackson to make more money based on things such as playing time and production. The incentives are regarded as likely to be reached if he can stay healthy. Jackson, a sixth-year pro, has missed most of the past two seasons with two torn pectoral tendons that required surgery. Last week at the NFL Combine, Browns general manager Tom Heckert said he thought Jackson would fit better in the Browns' new 3-4 defense because of his ideal size (6-0, 240) for an inside 'backer in the scheme. Jackson, the Browns second-round pick in 2006, led the league with 188 tackles in 2008.

Because RFA tenders are predefined by the league.

Right, and maybe the amount of money we would have to pay them is more than we think they are worth.
Let some other team make them a offer. If we think it is too much, let them move on. If we think we can do better, do better.
One would assume if they get a offer somewhere, we could tell them to let us know before doing anything.
If it means they could potentially get more from us, why wouldn't they??
All not tendering means is we aren't willing to pay whatever the tender amount is, and don't think any other team would pay that amount either....especially if they have to give us a 2nd round pick.
Does anybody think we could trade Vickers or Elam straight up for a 2nd round pick??
We want other teams to make them offers....then we can counter if it fits in to our way of thinking.

I don't believe you can now make any trades. The CBA has to be signed before the draft in order to trade players.
Vickers would get a 2nd round grade to a FB driven offense. San Diego, Jets, Philly, Ravens, Steelers, Etc...
