Let me kick of the latest edition of the NBA thread by offering a great big LULZ0RS to the Heat for blowing a 24 point lead in the 3rd quarter and losing to Orlando. LeBron scoreless in the 4th quarter and misses another game-tying/winning 3 attempt at the buzzer.

Mike Bibby filled up the stat sheet: 3 points on 1 of 4 shooting with 1 assist in 19 minutes of work.

Two and a Half Men combine for less than 75 and the Heat lose. This is is not a coincidence.

Another loss to a team with a winning record...

What a shame .....

Very true, but I don't think anybody's ever accused Bosh of being clutch

Here is my dream senario .....

Game 7 of the Easter Conference Finals ....... (I don't want these bums making the finals)

Heat down by 1 ........ 10 seconds left .......

Bosh misses a short turn around ....... rebound knocked out to Wade who also misses ...... and then .... James grabs the rebound and drives for the slam ....... and CLANKS it off the rim as time expires ........ and I mean one of those world class clanks that winds up 17 rows deep ........

That would be a classic fail worthy of such classic bums.

That's hysterical ... although it probably cut out the part where Bosh flopped to the ground like a sniper shot him, and Lebron screamed that he was hacked when making the pass.

However ..... Bosh had to wait about 3 seconds before he "realized" that he was fouled ...... then flops.

You have to let the drama build ........

The Lakers, Bulls, Celtics, and/or Spurs will/would own the Heat in the playoffs. Probably the Mavs and Magic too.

They can't defend the big guys and they have no half court offense. Or point guards.

from the other thread: I disagree that Cuban is the Mavs FO. He handed over the reigns to Donnie Jr. Yes, Nellie's boy seems the antithesis of his old man in that he likes to oversign 5's (rather than completely ignore them), but he's done quite a job creating a "team" built on specific needs and parts that fit together.

Mark Cuban said no to Steve Nash for 50 mil... then turned around and gave it to Eric fricken Dampier...

I turned on the Heat/Magic game when they were down by 20, for some reason, all I could think about was game 1 in the East Finals against them, and how they are the WORST team to face when you're up by alot...

...Sure enough they chip away and BOOM it's all over but the (Bosh) crying...

Haha, did you see Bosh slam the ball on the court after the final buzzer? Let it out, big guy...it's ok to cry!

hindsight is a great tool.

in terms of the time that it happened. he said no to paying an injury prone PG who didn't play defense $50mil and was tore up about it. but, he wanted to build a team around defense and Dirk, which is why he gave the money to a big center to help protect Dirk from having to defend the other teams big guys.

was it a smart move? of course not. Nash ended up 2-time NBA MVP (though he likely doesn't get those honors without the 7second offense and w/ a Dirk on his team who would have commanded more media attention). Dampier ended up being a decent defensive presence who couldn't do anything else.

I try to avoid Ian Thomsen articles, but every now and then I click the link anyway. And, he never ceases to amaze me in his ridiculousness.

Today's topic: how defensive teams are not the main title competitors.

http://espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/teamstats/_/sort/defensiveEff

top4 defensive efficiency teams: Chicago, Boston, Orlando, Miami
other4 contenders rankings:
Spurs 7
Lakers 8
Mavs 11
Thunder 16

but, Thomsen still tries to claim
Quote:

Offensive skills have been blended into the game so thoroughly that there is no longer a single championship contender that can be branded as an all-out defensive team.

Think about it: When was the last time you couldn't find at least one stifling defensive team in contention for the title?

Look around the league and name a title contender that possesses the mindset as well as the stoppers that strangle opponents defensively

Not to mention Oklahoma City made the Perkins trade with defense in mind. As did the Atlanta Hawks shipping out offensive Bibby for defensive Hinrich.

i don't think you need to be a crazy lockdown type defense to win it all, but you've gotta be damn good.

i don't think people label the lakers of the last few years as a top flight defensive squad, but outside of gasol, they all play good defense. fisher, kobe, artest, bynum, etc... but they funnel their offense through gasol when they are at their best, so i guess his horrible defense cancels out.

i think transition defense is just as important. was huge for boston in 2008, i had not seen a group get back like those guys did on their run. i think it's half the battle when you make a team run plays and play a slower halfcourt pace, even if the halfcourt game is their niche...

i mean that was the blueprint for beating the cavs with lebron. don't let them run because when you make them play halfcourt, you get the stanky leg

It's the same way to beat the Heat: get them out of running in transition. Make them set up and work the ball inside, because thats where they're softest. Two starting forwards who would rather take long jump shots than post up on the low block and five centers who can't score a lick between themselves.

The heat should have got amare instead of bosh. At least amare can play physical inside on offense and actually uses his post skills.

he also is capable of playing defense when he wants to (see 2nd half of last season)

but, he wasn't a super-friend.

I'm still trying to figure out who Bosh is ......

I mean ... you have Batman and Robin being James and Wade ..... and they can switch off on who wears which set of superhero PJs on which night of the week ..... but who is Bosh?

Wonder Woman?

I was thinking Spiderman and friends.

LeBron is Spiderman because Wade has gotta be the Iceman. That makes Bosh Firestar.

Cavs over NY.

w00t.

We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Miami down *24* in the First QUARTER against the Spurs.

Maybe they are trying the Orlando trick of going down big early and coming back?

I'd be fun to see them get taken to the woodshed.

I didn;t get to see the game .... but Baron Davis and Luke Harangody each had 18. Not a bad start for them.

I'd take Bosh every time. Stoudemire's knees are near death.

Also, Heat lose by 30 to Spurs. Ouch.

samuels = impressive

if baron can stay motivated, this will be a fun team to watch over the next 2 years.

i love that while we have a few older vet guys like baron and parker, we have a ton of raw young talent going out there and learning
