Ok, who like's a good cup of Java in the mornings?? Maybe even other times of the day?

I know I do.

Over the years I have tried all the regular brands...Maxwell House, Folgers, Eight-O'Clock, etc.
Many custom, top blends from fancy groceries, such as Blue Mountain or Kona...very expensive stuff, to the regular top ends such as Starbucks or Seattle's Best.

I have settled in on one brand. It is a regular top end coffee. Life is too short(for me anyway) to drink a Folgers every morning. Those just lack the taste IMO.....but that is just my opinion. I am sure we have plenty of Folgers drinkers who are perfectly content with the choice. Please don't take that as a insult.

My coffee of choice is Dunkin Donuts original roast.

That is a damn good cup of coffee. It costs a bit. If I buy it at the local Bi-Lo it generally sells for $9.99 a lb. Sometimes it is on sale for a buck or two cheaper.

If I buy it at COSTCO in a 2.5 lb bag, the bag sell for $17.89....a pretty good buy IMO.

It is full of coffee flavor, and to me has hints of a chocolate texture. Very smooth with little bitterness. Smells great.

I like my coffee fairly strong, so one Heaping coffee scoop for every two cups works out just fine for me. I mean as much as I can possibly scoop up and transfer without spilling all over the counter.

I take mine black.

Back in the day I added a few drops of cream and maybe 1/4 pack of sugar, but finally got tired of having to dispose of a nearly full cream pack and a nearly full sugar pack, so just started drinking it black maybe 25 or more years ago.

As far as the fast food joints....I know, I always stick up for McDonalds, but they have a great cup of coffee when on the go.

I don't generally drink more than maybe 2 cups....16-20 oz total, and rarely drink it after 10AM, though I will occasionally drink a cup after a nice dinner on the town, but that's pretty rare.

So what about you??

I drink whatever the wife makes in the pot on the weekend. She likes the flavored coffees with caffeine and strength, drinking them for the jolt. I am more a social coffee drinker,....therefore, decaf is OK with me.

Limit one cup a day. Occasional at dinner if with dessert,...rare.

You're right about Dunkin' Donuts though. I used to really enjoy McDonald's, but they somewhere changed the flavor these past few years.

My choice is Eight O'Clock Italian roast whole bean, nothing better than fresh ground coffee, and yea I got my own grinder. One time many years ago I used the grinder in the store after someone else ground up some kind of flavored coffee, which made my coffee have some nasty flavor. As far as flavored coffees are concerned you can keep them.

100% jamacian blue mountain is my favorite when I can find it. Brand doesn't matter. After that I just get a local coffee houses dark roast. Always whole bean. Always drink black unless I make a latte or capicino.

My christmas present to myself this year was a Jura E7 capspresso machine. A little pricey but what an amazing cup of coffee. it grinds the beans and pressure brews a single cup at a time. I love my coffee in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Not a fan of coffee, but I can brew a mean cup. I LOVE the smell of fresh-brew coffee.

I NEVER buy Starbucks anymore - they over-roast their beans and the coffee always tastes burnt. My preference to purchase when entertaining is Paul Newman coffee. Everyone I've served it to seems to like it

But, more important to the flavor of coffee is your water. 98% of your cup of coffee is water. If it doesn't taste good, neither will your coffee.

Columbus~The Jura is a VERY good machine. Nice!

Old Sixty~The flavored coffees leave behind their flavored oils in the grinders and messes up the flavor of regular coffee. If you live in a split household (someone likes flavored, another like plain), I strongly recommend 2 grinders and dedicate each of them to one type of coffee.

I drink regular old Folger's Classic roast in a boring old Mr. Coffee coffee pot. Boring, but still a good cup of coffee to me. Can't stand strong coffee and really hate weak coffee.

Oh, and nothing flavored for me, thanks. If that's all there is, I won't partake. Even if regular coffee is made in a pot that's had flavored, I can still taste the flavoring. ICK.

While I am younger (so my coffee senses may not be that developed compared to some ) I am fine with whatever. My house always used just simple Maxwell House when I was still in high school and got into that, we made it stronger than normal so it wasn't too watered down.

I went to college and they only had Seattle's best there (every dining hall or meal exchange center) ... I hated it at first, but after a couple of weeks I got hooked on it.

After college, everything else tasted bland for a while after having Seattle's best for a few years, even though they were Pete's (or Peet's) my last semester there ...

since then I got into Folgers for the past few months ... and I gotta say I don't like it at all ... this thread popped up in perfect timing because I don't really want to spend a lot of money on coffee (as I said I grew up on maxwell house), but not sure if the woman likes maxwell house ... I'll stay tuned to this one!

Folgers "Black Silk" tastes as good or better than many of the premium coffees if you're looking for a deal.

I only drink one cup a day, and I want it to be good. I have a grinder and right now I've got a bag of beans from an Italian restaraunt that my BIL owns. Plain brown bag, but it's out of this world.

Peen,
every year just before Christmas, Dunkin Donuts runs a sale on their coffee. This year it was (4) one-pound bags for 19 and change. We bought only 4 and are now on our last bag. Very good cup of coffee.

They are also working on pods for the Keurig and should be out nationwide this year.

Man you hit the nail on the head with this post. Dunkin Donuts by far for my wife and I. I keep a can (if that is what you can call it) of Folgers French Roast as a just in case break glass scenario.

One small teaspoon of sugar with just enough cream to cover the bottom is good for the Folgers. But Dunkin tastes better black for me--the sugar and cream kills the rich taste.

I like a strong cup of joe, but the folks who brew Starbucks go overboard with it. When I go to Barnes and Noble I think people drink it just to say they drink Starbucks.

You don't actually need DD to make pods for the Keurig. Keurig has what the they call the "My K Cup" that you can put in your own beans, so you can grind them fresh.

For the last couple of months, I've done almost nothing but the 100% Jamaican Blue Mountain or the 100% Kona.

I also will never again buy already ground coffee.

I'll drink most any coffee (I'm a former sailor in A.A. .... I've had *plenty* of bad coffee), but when I'm buying for myself for my home, this is what I get.
I will blend the two, however, and that actually makes a nice pot of java.

I don't do cream or sugar, and it has got to be strong.

I currently have a pound of DD coffee in my cabinet, another pound in the freezer and two pounds of Kona coffee still sitting around from my trip to Hawaii last June.

I drink coffee nearly any time of day. I prefer mine black and strong as possible. I was never really into coffee until I started dating this girl who worked at Starbucks. She was one of those dark-haired, dark-eyed, and dark skinned girls whose kinda artsy and mysterious---they get me every time.

'Peen, I like strong coffee, so my absolute favorite is Starbucks staple blend --Pike's Place. Add 1 cream and 3 sugars. - Doesn't get better.

However, If I go to the grocery, I buy 8 o'clock coffee. - Really, really, good stuff. When I was a child, my grandfather would take me grocery shopping with him, and I thought it was so cool when he grinded the coffee beans - a great feature of the 8 o'clock brand. So, naturally, I always grind the beans myself.

Dunkin makes good coffee, but I need to add a shot of espresso to get it in line with Starbucks Pikes Place.

Anything, and just black is the way to go. And multiple, numerous, very many, a lot of times a day.

I'm a graduate student, if you could not tell.

For anyone in the Columbus area: Buckeye Donuts has the best coffee in the world. Yes, the world. It is a 24-hour joint on High Street right across from Arps hall on the OSU campus. I highly recommend it.

That is all.

I like all kinds of coffee.....except Starbucks.....that is the only coffee I have really disliked.

I like almost any kind of coffee. Never cream. Never sugar. I have tried Dunkin Donuts and do agree it is a step above the regular old coffees.

I would never drink decaf. Ever.

There have been many studies lately showing the benefits of coffee. Lots of very interesting benefits it seems....and not decaf...it has to be the real stuff.

My favorite coffee is Eight-O'Clock original. It has a "different" flavor from most coffees I've tried and can be brewed very strong but doesn't get bitter.

I used to take my coffee black. One time, years ago, I ran out of coffee so brewed myself a cup of tea. I can't drink tea black so I used cream and sugar. I kept forgetting to get coffee for nearly a week so drank tea each day. Once I renewed my coffee supply I found the black coffee too bitter. It was then I started using cream and sugar in my coffee and have ever since. Sometimes just cream.

I like two cups in the morning before heading out the door.

Not a fan at all of flavored coffees. Especially in the morning.

Doubt it's available outside Milwaukee/Wisconsin area, but Alterra coffee is awesome...it rules the area and has great breakfast/lunch/bakery to boot. It really turned me on to coffee and it feels good to support local as well.

I don't drink much coffee any more, mainly espresso. That being said, there is a local coffee out here that is to die for - when picking breakfast/brunch places, I look to see if they have it. It is called Stumptown Coffee and is really some amazing coffee.

We aren't coffee drinkers, but we have a frappe machine and the girlfriend loves dunkin donuts coffee with hers. I've made a few cups on days when I needed a boost and it is pretty good stuff.

I'm with the seeming consensus on Starbucks over roasting the beans. It really does seem like more of a lifestyle selection than it is about the taste of the actual coffee (not like most the people I know drink straight coffee there- with or without cream/sugar- but probably get more of their odd caps/fraps/third world scraps).

That being said, as far as store-bought coffee goes, am I the only one drinking Meiejer brand? It was best value. I drink it straight black usually. Every now and again some International Delight Irish Creme or Dark Chocolate cream for sweetness but for the most part I'm attached to the energy that comes with the coffee, not the flavor. If I'm out and about, Dunkin' is the way to go. At Starbucks I feel like I actually had an order take place like this...

"I'll have a large coffee straight black, please."

"Oh, you mean a grande?"

"Yeah I'll have a large coffee, hold the cream, sugar, and pretentiousness."

I may have got some complimentary spit in that cup.

Im a coffee whore really. Pretty much anything thats on sale in a given week.
Usually a can of either Folgers or Maxwell house breakfast blend. One cup to take out the door with me in the morning. And then I usually grab one from the Deli to wash down my breakfast .
From home I drink it black, but at the store I always get cream and sugar.

The only time I drink that foul substance known as coffee is if I have a major, heavy duty hangover.

Haven't had a cup in over 20 years.

I honestly cannot stand the taste of coffee. It smells pretty good brewing ...... but the taste makes me want to ... bleh.

DD black is my choice. The wife likes to use a 50/50 mix of Folgers and my DD and thats OK too but if I'm making it its all DD.
If my stomachs acting up I may reluctantly add cream but I'll never understand the sugar coffee thing. Patooey!

At one store I managed, I used to have a woman come through every day and get a small coffee in a large cup, with 20 creams, and 15 sugars. She'd say "I just love your coffee", and I wondered how she could tell. lol

At $40 to $50 a lb, you must be doing pretty good.

I have gone through the grinder phase, and the fancy espresso type brewing contraptions.

Now, I just buy the pre-ground. If you store it in the freezer, it maintains its flavor. I keep just enough for maybe 2-3 days in a airtight container out on the counter.

I have a Krupps brewer. It has a filter in the water tank to filter the water before brewing.

For a change up, every once in a while I'll buy some Cafe DuMonde chickory coffee.

Whole bean, Filtered water. 8 o'clock usually, Dunkin's for a treat. Used to get the Kona at Sam's Club, but those were better days.

I am hooked on the Amaretto flavored creamer, though.

it's $30/12 oz at a market near my work... and I'm a computer programmer that supports only himself and one dog; I can swing it
Those 12oz of beans will make me coffee for almost 3 weeks (I don't always have time to brew a pot every morning).
The grinder thing.... it's just better when it is freshly ground. I got a nice conical burr grinder about a year and a half ago - it's relatively quiet (I can be on the phone around it) and it doesn't scorch the beans while giving a very consistent grind.... and it's adjustable from a heavy coarse all the way down to turkish fine.
As for the brewer, mine is a Mr. Coffee.... it's good enough for me.

General comment to all: Be careful with freezing beans, they easily absorb the scents and flavors floating around in your freezer.

Coffee is a must for me. I, like you, have tried most of them. I used to run a coffee shop in Cleveland before I moved to Florida. I loved the Ethiopian beans or the Costa Rican beans. Of course Blue Mountain and the Kona are among the top.

I usually enjoy my French roast (med-dark) in the morning, gives me a nice wake up (sitting here drinking a cup right now as a matter of fact...lol). Though when my friend goes to Jamaica, she always brings me back 5 lbs of Blue Mountain.

Well, I do drink coffee as I posted above but will agree with you on this one thing: It smells a heck of a lot better brewing than it ever tastes.

If it tasted as good drinking it as it does brewing I'd have probably have drowned myself in it by now.
