Since the players, owners, and everyone involved cant decide how to divide up 9 billion dollars, the amount of games to be played and all of the other issues to the NFL...I honestly think the NFL fans should send a message.

Really? you cant divide up 9 billion dollars fairly? Im so sorry...i made $9,000 dollars last year. Im sorry if i dont have any sympathy for your plight of not thinking that 3 mil a year is enough for you.

example...Mark Brunell has made over $50 million in his career and because of bad investments filed for bankruptcy this past year...its players like him that the NFLPA feels they need money.

There have been over a dozen current players that have filed for bankruptcy in the past 2 years...that doesnt include retired players (rocket ismail) who netted over 20 mil and had to file bankruptcy.

Im sorry if you cant afford to maintain a lifestyle of $300,000 cars and 2 million dollar houses...I pay $550 dollars a month in rent and need a roomate to make ends meet.

The fans hate this, there is no one who is happy the owners and players are bickering over this...these people collectively make 9 billion dollars a year playing or owning a franchise of players PLAYING A GAME FOR A LIVING, and making MORE MONEY PER YEAR than the average person will accrue in their entire life.

NFL fans should show the NFL and the former NFLPA how precious their money is and not give them a single cent....

Dont go to games, dont go to a bar and watch games, dont put it on CBS or FOX or ESPN and watch NFL, dont buy logo'd mugs, dont buy jerseys...

Dont pay a single cent to the NFL...get your fix of football by flooding the ratings of college football, the UFL, and the CFL...Show the NFL and NFLPA who reaaaaaaally runs the league. Without the peoples money...the NFL wont succeed. 16 games (or 18 or 10, whatever happens) will be strange with no one there...

what are the chances of this actually happening?

The fact that the NFL will eventually get it right and not miss any of the regular season is not lost on me. but the fact that the ratings will be at an all time high this coming season because the fans will rejoice that we didnt actually lose football for a year and embrace that it is back and in full swing and that our lives can return to normal just makes me sick.

mark it down...the nfl will play this season and there will be this collective sigh of relief, flood of excitement because we didnt lose the best thing ever, and ratings, sales, and revenue will be at an all time high...

Can all of the NFL fans just boycott everything NFL for the next year or 2?

College football and the UFL can satiate our tastes if we REALLY need to...both of those institutions play for love of the game...not inflated salaries and big paychecks.

I understand and share your frustration.

The reality is that we cannot entirely "suspend supporting" the NFL by not attending the events. They have other sources of revenue that we also pay for -- here I'm talking mostly about advertising dollars. Of course, if there are NO games then the point is moot.

I apologize, but I WILL watch replacement football as my "punishment" to the players. This is about -- as you said -- watching grown men play a game. And that's what I intend to do.

When your point man goes down, you get a new point man.

People need to stop the "They make blah blah blah much money playing a GAME" line of thinking...

If it was JUST a GAME, people wouldn't be making millions upon billions of dollars doing it...

Nobody complains that Julia Roberts gets 20 million for every movie she makes...

It's the same concept...

There is very little chance of this happening. I go to the bar pretty much every week to watch my Browns. It's part of my routine during the fall.

I don't really care about this lockout besides the fact that it's holding up FA and keeping Colt McCoy and the team from Pat Shurmur and Practices (if it goes into training camp).

I do think that the owners should have to pay their stadium workers and their team employees (the guy who runs the film room, etc.) whether they play or not because this has nothing to do with them.

Otherwise, when the Browns are back on, I will watch them (well not this fall, i'm gonna be gone for 3 months starting september), but afterwards, count on me watching them.

How much the players and owners make means nothing to me, I just want football and a salary cap system

Appreciate the other side,...but there are many, many more actresses that have Julia Roberts' talent and don't go on strike or decertify to hold their fans hostage,....

Assuming they could afford it, I feel most of the American population would rather buy a ticket to the Super Bowl than the newest movie release come Sunday.

We all have choices, and my opinion stinks. I feel privileged to be able to voice it.

I'm not siding with the players...

I just hate that some people's only argument against them is "They make more money then I do!"

It has nothing to do with the situation...

In the context of the Country, yes, they do make alot, but that's how it is, and how it's going to be from now on...

I have no problem with them making a lot,....holding us hostage for it is crap. I don't care how talented they are,....because they aren't.

Just in simple terms of responsibility only, how can I can justify paying an athlete more than the President gets paid ?

Do we really do all this for the money ?

I just don't care anymore, I guess.

Money doesn't buy happyness...But It does buy a Waverunner, have you ever seen a sad person on a Waverunner? Didn't think so...

All I know is, If what I hear about is true, in regards to the offer the Owners gave the NFLPA, then they can all rot, and D. Smith is in it just for the fame of being "That guy"

The only argument I can make is that if the players generate the owners however much revenue, why shouldn't the owners be allowed to pay the players what they want?

I just don't want a stupid strike. And putting in scabs and making people watch bad football simply won't due.

It was like some guy I heard after church the other day crying about how much money a wallstreet trader makes. Well if he generates the income that makes him worth the money, then why shouldn't he be paid that way?

Unfortunately, we're just getting stuck with a stupid lockout because players think they're worth more than what the owners want to give. But that's what it is, if we don't like the product, we don't have to support it.

But I'm not going to give football up.......... so whatever. There's a reason that the sport is so popular and it earns so much money. People love it

Hard to/can't argue against that,...it's part of being a free National economy.

Hmm.. a thought just occurred to me. I'm required to pay my season ticket invoice by May 1st. I intend to do so.

Lets suppose they do in fact put scabs on the field, then they say that they put the product on the field and they are going to take my money and apply that to a 2011 scab season instead of refunding my money.

Boy howdy, lets talk about a dawg MORE infuriated than I am now.

By that argument, any season that it appears a team doesn't have as much talent as others, could be an argument for a refund...

If they field a team, and you paid to watch that team, not certain players... You have no argument...

totally agree. it's one of the most tired arguments in sports.

"well, if i was at my job and i did or said this, i'd be fired" "i make x amount of money and bla bla blah"

here's the difference. that guy is the best in the world at his job, and you're replaceable.

you don't have a guaranteed contract because you aren't as important to your business, as these guys are to theirs...

with that being said, i still tend to side with the players in this thing, because i have a hard time believing the owners aren't making buck with the current system, but again, i don't know every detail in this situation.

my gut feeling says that these guys get something done before september.

the one thing that sickens is that the league is at an all time high right now. popularity has never been this good. they own sundays. they own monday nights. the super bowl is boss. and to think that there is disagreement is befuddling to me.

some of these guys are replaceable. but i would say most are not.

most of these guys aren't millionaires either, by the way.

and i know i mentioned guaranteed contract, and while the length isn't guaranteed, some of your money is.

Right - what the players make is totally irrelevant

they deserve it. they generate revenue more than some stiff in a cubicle could ever make.

when's the last time 60,000 people filled an office to watch a guy complete a report for his boss?

You're right, I wont disagree there.

I don't have a problem with these guys getting paid a lot. It's that they're never satisfied with their wage. They always want more.

It's hard to sympathize with these guys when most of us haven't had a raise for 2 years.

When's the last time you saw 53 players (a team) get paid over $100 million for sitting on their butts?

then have a problem with the actors, actresses, and musicians who bank like those guys do. it's just that their financial issues and bargaining for better contracts issues aren't put on display like the athletes are.

i do have a problem with rookies making what they make. i think it's incredibly dumb that jake long is the highest paid OL in the history of the NFL before he even played a down in the nfl. that needs to be fixed. but i believe veteran guys should make what they make.

yeah, i haven't had a raise in years and have to worry about bills and stuff, so i don't like hearing these guys complain about money, and hold out, and do what they do, but i can't argue that i wouldn't be doing the exact same thing if i were in the league. remember these guys have the agents in their ears telling them exactly how they can go about their business.

No. Last year the players made money. The owners made money.

You said how much the players made doesn't matter.

Then you said how much the owners made DID matter.

There's where I'm not following you.

If you could explain why it doesn't matter for one group, but it does matter for a different group I'd appreciate it.

Also, it's not just the owners that didn't like the setup. The players want more - that means they didn't like the setup.

Because the players aren't claiming that they're losing money, as the owners are. The owners created this mess, not the players.

What I'm "saying" is more like what I'm asking.

If it's no ones business what the players make, why is it anyone's business what the owners make?

That is what you said. "what the players make doesn't matter", then you went on to say the owners make a lot.

It's a simple question - I don't care who you support, you don't care who I support, and that's no problem.

I'm just curious as to why you think what the players make doesn't matter, but what the owners make does. (and by the way, I haven't seen any proof of owners making billions - have you?)

Well, maybe I missed something. I wasn't aware the owners said they are losing money. LOSING.

i never said what the players made didn't matter. you basically assumed i said that.

if the owners are going to cry poor, then prove it, that is all that i am saying.

if you are going to reduce their salaries by 18% plus make them play 2 extra regular season games, then i believe they need to prove that those measures are necassary.

like i said, if you disagree then just disagree, but please don't put words in my mouth.

i truly believe the players would take the cut if the owners could just prove that it needs to be done. but seriously after the shenanigans the owners tried to pull by doing nothing because the networks were going to pay them football or no football? i think that's quite shady.

something tells me the owners are fine financially, but see how much they extra they could take. the goose has never been this golden before and then feel the need to profit even more.

J/C...

It's my understanding that under the old CBA, had the owners not opted out it would have been in effect for two more years.

So, quite simply, the reason their is no "off-season" now and potentially a season come fall is because of the owners.

I don't care who's right, I don't care who's wrong... I don't even really care that the traditional off-season can't take place now... wake me up when training camp comes along. This whole thing is ridiculous to me - both sides make money, both want more, fan gets the shaft - but the only reason it is this way IMO is because the owners opted out a year and a half ago. Screw 'em.

They'll eventually get what they want and till then I'll be watching baseball and loving it.

There.

You said what the players make should not be an argument for or against anything.

The "...players make blah blah blah...." and you said that shouldn't be an issue. I agreed.

You then said the owners make money.

Now, if you call that putting words in your mouth, fine. If you want to say I extrapolated, fine. I really don't care. I can't do anything about it - this situation, OR theirs.

That's been the crux of the owners' argument since they opted out of the CBA in 2008: that operating costs (most notably in player salaries) were exceeding their revenues. I don't think it needs to be spelled out that when costs exceed revenue you lose money. That's why the NFLPA has, very publicly, asked the owners to open their books: they want the owners to prove that they're losing money as they claim they have been.

Now, supporters of the owners make the argument that there is no reason that the employer should have to open his books to the employee; however, when the sole argument on the employee's behalf is predicated on the numbers in the books, it behooves them to back up their argument with facts. In this case, the facts lie in the books.

Yeah, that's why they decertified and did you happen to read their demands/suit? They basically want to blow up football as we know it. They want to do away with the draft and in doing so throw away all of the fandom and offseason events that goes along with, right down the drain.

They basically want a free for all in what they term as a very lucrative business. They are also seeking damages in the form of 100 of millions of dollars.

What about the system that molds these players into the best they can be.
The have the best of the best when it comes to training and coaching
[In general] and that is all furnished by the owners. They don't all come into this league as stars.
That always gets lost in the debate between owner and player/employee.

We already have two small market teams in town who's chance to win a championship in their respective Leagues is slim and none. If you ask me.
You take away the draft and the other sports are sure to follow suit.

If the League loses it's ability to be balanced and competitive then imo that sport just lost it luster with me. All most like watching something that is fixed and fake.
