3. Title-belt pose for cover

On the cover or not, that TD celebration NEEDS to be in the game. Heck, EA says all the time, "If it's in the game..."

Even with that being said and the way I'm tracking the results, I won't be buying Madden this year. I'll probably buy NCAA 12 though. I bought 10 and really enjoyed our Dawgtalkers Big 12 online dynasty. Funny, I was playing my Westchester Juggernauts offline dynasty just this past weekend, I'm in season 2019. Fun game.

Question ... if you play NCAA .. have you seen a ton of glitches?

My friends and I were playing an online dynasty that I recently quit out of ... without getting into all of the specifics I would play a couple of games and then it seemed like every 3rd or 4th game I would just get blown out.

And I mean Im not the best ... but we played through about 6 or 7 seasons since last summer and then I just got sick of it. After finishing with the #1 recruiting class in the last offseason and I want to say top 5 in the last 3 seasons my team was stacked. Still ... the game that did it over for me started like this. I'm highly favored in this game as #4 in the country and a B+ offense .. A- defense .. A- overall. They were Nebraska and had mid B's.

I kickoff .. they run it back for a TD. They kickoff ... normal tackle my returner and force a fumble for a scoop and score. They kickoff again - first play from scrimmage I run a pass ... on the instant replay you can see my running back pick up a blitz ... hit the ground ... broken leg out for the season. About two plays later I pass .. my QB was hit as I threw it and the ball flicked up in the air... their d-tackle picks it off then sheds off one of my wideouts with a stiffarm and my backup rb to return it 45 or so yards for an int return. My next offensive play is a handoff up the middle ... my backup RB is hit... fumbles ... they scoop and score and he is out for 4 to 6 weeks. They are now up 28 to 0 ... nothing I can do, I have only had two offensive "drives" if you even call it that. I still try to settle it down... they kickoff out of the back of the endzone. First play they jump the snap, sack my qb on a play action which was "setup" and he is out for the season also. By the way ... he fumbled - they scoop and score ... 35 to 0 and it's still the first quarter.

How does the game have stuff happen like this? All bumpers/sliders whatever you call them are standard. We do play on heisman but the previous three weeks I had played 2 ranked teams and one team that was only a 1 loss. Combined scoring even on heisman was 141 to 41 .. so it's not like I am horrible. I just don't want to play the game if the computer can go "beast mode" all of a sudden and wont let you win. Anyone else see this in NCAA?

That happens from time to time, on all difficulty levels. I moved to the Big Ten in 2018 and my 2nd conference game was against Northwestern on the road. They were C+ in everything and I'm an B+/A-/A- team. They missed a FG to win with 35 seconds to go. Unreal.

And I actually quit a game against them two days prior. I was crushing the team by 24 with 4 minutes to go and then "Beast Mode" started. Long TD run with 5 broken tackles, onside, recover, long TD pass, onside recover, long TD drive despite them converting two 4th and longs, onside, I recover, I run a FB up the middle, fumble, scoop and score. I lose by 4. Now, I could have downed the ball three times and won, but I wanted to see if they would make me fumble if I ran the ball...and they did. That's why I quit it (or didn't save it). And what's funny, I played #5 OSU the next week and went NUTS on their faces for 63 points. Most games play out as they should, some just work out weird.

Now......that is how real football works too. So maybe that's their excuse for that "beast mode" code.

Even with that being said, I still enjoy the game.

... And Madden ... in just about every version since they've released it.

It's called the NFW game ... as in there's no freaking way you're going to win this game. For whatever reason, you just seem to get one of those once or twice a season. In single player mode, you just reset and play again. In online, not much you can do.

At one point though, I was getting so good with the NCAA offensive play that I could stage some really impressive comebacks in these games. At least in the version I played, the "NFW" aspect seemed to go away in the fourth quarter, and you could try and stage your comeback. It's like they wanted to put you behind the eightball as much as possible to see if you could come back. I think once I scored 3 touchdowns in the last 3 minutes of the game to send it to OT, and eventually win. Usually I'm not patient enough to get to that point, and would of reset it 3 quarters earlier after whipping my remote against the wall.

Exactly. A user-created 5-star 99-rated RB on your own team could never run like that against the computer. In "beast mode" the computer becomes M.Lynch.

Might be the greatest run in NFL history. The actual run, the game on the line, and even the announcers call. I still remember watching it at a bowling alley in Indianapolis.....INSANE!

I used to have NCAA for the normal Xbox and certain games would be like that.... but... different in a way.

I would be up like 35 to 0 just cruising along and then about the final quarter the computer would just find a way to recover every single onside... I don't think I ever lost one of those games though... I would somehow always squeak out a win...

UPDATE

LINK

Browns running back Peyton Hillis leads his third round match-up against Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles with 58 percent of the vote in the competition to be on the cover of Madden NFL 12, the latest edition of the popular video game series.

Should he advance, Hillis would face off with the winner of the match-up between Green Bay Packers and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers and New England Patriots running back Danny Woodhead.

I know some of you have already seen these.....but I needed a Hillis refresher after watching the lame video on the Madden voting page. The first video has some great music and footage. The second, with it's Hillis song, kinda goofy but funny.

Well, he won again.

Hillis got 60% of the vote against Jamal Charles. Hillis versus Aaron Rodgers in the semifinal. Vick and AP on the other side.

Rock the Vote

Knowing our luck, the Madden Curse will stike anyway because Hillis was merely in the RUNNING for the cover.

Peyton Hillis dominating 'Madden' vote

Lead by an online campaign that includes front page treatment on ClevelandBrowns.com, as well as ongoing Twitter and Facebook campaigns by his team, Peyton Hillis has jumped out to a shockingly large lead over Aaron Rodgers in the "Madden NFL 12" cover vote.

This would be the biggest upset of the tournament by far, as we have a running back who not too long ago was unwanted by the Broncos (a team in desperate need of a back), going up against the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

But with the Cleveland sports scene showing up big for Hillis, could he take the vote all the way to the "Madden 12" cover?

Either way, looks like this race is going to be a lot closer than I initially thought.

Want to see your favorite player in the finals? Head to SportsNation and cast your vote now for the "Madden 12" cover.

I really don't care about any curses. It would be really cool to see a white running back on the cover of Madden. And not only is he a white running back...he is a Cleveland Brown!!!

This would be awesome.

i think he could have not as great of a year because it's just how the league works, one minute your up, the next your down. people almost make it seem like the guy on the cover of the game is the only one who isn't immune.

I don't believe in it at all. But it is kind of fun to look at...

From Wikipedia:

Quote:

After Eddie George appeared on the 2001 cover, the Tennessee Titans lost in the 2001 playoffs. George also never averaged more than 3.3 yards per carry for the rest of his career.

Daunte Culpepper led the Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs in 2000, but after appearing on the Madden 2002 cover, he threw 23 interceptions as the Vikings slumped to a 5–11 record. He also broke the record for most fumbles in a single season. While his career looked to be back on track in 2004 with a career season, he blew out both knees in 2005 and 2006 and never resembled the player he was at the start of the decade.

Marshall Faulk appeared on the 2003 cover, and his career (and the success of the St. Louis Rams) severely declined afterwards. He did not register another 1,000 yard rushing season and his yards per carry average dropped from a consistent 5.4 over the previous three years to 4.5 in 2002 and 4.0 in 2003 and
2004. He started 21 out of a possible 32 games from 2002–2003 as knee injuries got the better of him. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2005 and retired that same year.

After appearing on the cover of Madden NFL 2004, Michael Vick broke his leg in pre-season and missed the first 12 games, with the Atlanta Falcons going 5–11.

Ray Lewis, 2005 cover athlete and middle linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, had his season cut short in week 15 with a wrist injury. It was also Lewis' first season without an interception.

In 2006, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his right knee while jumping out of bounds in a game versus the Tennessee Titans, ending his season. McNabb also suffered a sports hernia in the first game of the season.

Running back Shaun Alexander, then the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, was featured on the cover of Madden NFL 2007, and sustained a foot injury that caused him to miss six starts.[34] As a result, Alexander’s rushing statistics were substantially less than those from the previous season, and he never returned to true form.[34] Alexander himself has asked, “Do you want to be hurt and on the cover, or just hurt?"[35]

Madden NFL 2008's cover featured Vince Young, the starting quarterback of the Tennessee Titans. Young missed one game of the 2007 season due to a minor injury, but for the rest of the season was roughly even with his 2006 performance. When Young appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to officially announce that he would appear on the cover of Madden NFL 2008, he derided allegations of becoming the curse’s next victim, and stated, “I've done prayed about it and we're gonna go home and try to get to the playoffs and try to get to the Super Bowl. We'll see what happens."[36][37]

Brett Favre appeared on the cover of Madden NFL 2009 as a Green Bay Packer, under the impression that Favre was retired. However, shortly after the decision, Favre came back out of retirement and was traded to the New York Jets, which prompted EA to release a new cover online. Though he did not miss any games, he led the league in interceptions throwing 22. He later admitted to suffering a torn biceps injury, which Favre says may have affected his gameplay during the final five games of his first and only season with the New York Jets, who missed the playoffs at 9–7 after starting the season 8–3.[38] Favre threw 2 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in the last 5 games of the season.

On September 10, 2009, Larry Fitzgerald, wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals and strong believer in the curse,[3] and safety Troy Polamalu of the Pittsburgh Steelers, were both featured on the cover of Madden NFL 10. Polamalu sprained his MCL in the first half of the season opener and missed the next four games. After returning, Polamalu played in three more games before injuring his posterior cruciate ligament on November 14, 2009 against Cincinnati, and missed more games as a result. Fitzgerald, on the other hand, started all 16 regular season and both playoff games for the Cardinals. He did not attend the pro bowl due to a rib injury, leaving Steve Smith of the New York Giants, to take his spot in the 2010 Pro Bowl. He recorded 97 receptions (third-most of his NFL career), 1,092 yards (fourth-most), and a career-high 13 touchdowns.

Then last year Drew Bress tore his MCL.

If the winner of the tournament will actually be on the cover, then it's a joke. The winner will end up being a cowboy, steeler, patriot, giant, packer or bear. It doesn't matter about the player.

not picking on you, just wanted to point out that the common perception did not play out at all.

of those listed, only Packer Aaron Rodgers is left (superbowl winning QB)

other than that:

Michael Vick (this generation's Bo Jackson of video games)
Adrian Peterson
Peyton Hillis

you are not the only one. it was pretty commonly thought to be the practice.

underestimated were the 'Madden' fans who would vote Vick and Peterson out of past loyalty from the game (IMO)

and then there's Hillis. well, we have the best fans in the world

I read this, and thought, Well I would think it would go to a Brown who had 2 good seasons in a row.

Then who on offense, and a Brown had 2 good seasons in a row? When was the last one?

My answer Dennis Northcutt, was there anyone more recent who has had back to back seasons that were respectable on offense as a Cleveland Brown?

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

ESPN is pulling hard for Rodgers. But Hillis still has the lead.

Quote:

On Monday, I posted about Peyton Hillis' surprising lead over Aaron Rodgers in the "Madden NFL 12" cover vote. Well, after my post, Hillis' support actually rose, and the Browns running back looked to be a lock as the semifinal winner.

But not so fast.

Looking at the numbers provided to me by the editors over at SportsNation, Tuesday has been all Rodgers, as the Super Bowl MVP has started to close the gap.

And what was once a 59 percent to 41 percent lead has been trimmed to just 56-44. A significant comeback for Rodgers, who has until Monday morning if he wants to stop Hillis from pulling the upset.

I thought the initial burst would all be for Hillis, since it's a bigger deal for his supporters....but eventually, the more casual fan/voter will log enough for Rodgers to win. I'd be surprised Rodgers gets under 55%.

The more I think about it....I want Hillis on the cover. Who cares what happens. He's a Brown, on the cover of the biggest football product outside of the real games themselves, and that's still freaking cool.

...and its not like he wasn't going to get banged up anyway (the way he runs). Come on, we're the Browns. We'll probably go 6-10 anyway. How can anyone tell if the curse happened?
