According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Falcons are likely to contact the Browns about the No. 6 overall pick if Georgia WR A.J. Green falls past the Bengals at No. 4. GM Thomas Dimitroff has a history of moving up and down in the draft, and it's no secret Atlanta needs a field stretcher with Tony Gonzalez in decline and Michael Jenkins' inability to separate. Green would be the split end, deep threat to Roddy White's flanker. It would take a lot of work on Atlanta's part, but sounds like a match made in heaven. The Browns also have so many weaknesses that a trade down might be exactly what they want. Source: NBC Sports Would you make the trade or take Green? What could ATL offer us?

Depends on what we get back.
The Falcons are picking 27th. So we would obviously need that pick. And their 2nd rounder. Also, for us to move that far back in the draft we would probably need to get their 1st rounder in 2012. Throw in a couple more late round picks and I think would be happy with that.

With that big of a jump I would want their 1st & 2nd this year AND next year.

Browns # 6 is worth 1600pts and the Falcons # 27th is 680 ,their second rounder is worth 310 and their 3rd is worth 140..looks like they'd have to give up something next year also..I seriously doubt that happens..They are way back too far to do this.

Seems like that is a bit over the top.
Usually teams back into the 1st round from the 2nd have to give up next year's 1st. That should be enough.

They're just picking too low for me. They'll probably be low next year too.

I feel that the Falcons are too far back as well. Even with their 1st/2nd this year and their # 1 next year, it would just barely be in the ball park for the Browns pick at # 6. With no players able to be traded, I doubt if the Falcons would want to mortgage their 2 firsts and a second, over the two year span... Now if they had two first round picks this year.....

Dez Bryant was taken 24th in last year's draft. And Devin McCourty 27th. In 2009 Matthews was taken 26th, Hakeem Nicks 29th, and Kenny Britt 30th. In 2008 Chris Johnson was taken 24th and Kenny Phillips31st.
I would be very happy with that type of talent plus the extra picks.

Nicks, Britt and Phillips are not super stars. So 4 players out of the last 3 drafts?

It's funny actually tracing the story. It isn't so much of a "suggestion" as it is a beat writer's blog. (if that). He suggests this years first and second and next year's second. Some of the comments that follow are from atlanta fans and they range from "according to kiper, we can't trade picks in next year's draft or players, only this years..." to " The falcons have too many holes, let's trade back..." to "two picks, yes, three picks no way." to even "you wouldn't get Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson for a late first and two seconds, why would you think you could get Green for that? It would be much more expensive..." here's the link by the way ... I think it's the same as above just the next layer in http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-falcons-blo...-get-a-j-green/

You're right, none are superstars (although Nicks is on his way). But they are all very talented players. I just wanted to show that we would still have a shot at elite talent even if we are drafting at the end of the 1st round. And we would get the extra picks.

Green isn't a superstar either. Right now, I'd take Nicks, Britt, Matthews, or Johnson over him without blinking twice.

Nicks isn't a superstar?
17TDs his first 2 years in the NFL 14.6 YPC over 1800 yards
he's missed 5 games in his first 2 years, but when he has been on the field he has been really good. also, the above doesn't even factor in that he wasn't really used until the 2nd half of his rookie year. or that he's going to continue to get better (3rd year WR this year).
the kid is a top10 WR in the NFL. at that position that makes him a superstar.

Thanks for the info.
I was more just laughing that this story was posted on some guy's blog .. (he may be more credible than I am making it out to be) .. then it's picked up as if the Falcons have already called the Browns...

Do teams still (or ever) use the value chart when making trades?
Personally, I'd pull the trigger if they offered this year's 1st, this year's 2nd, and either a 2nd next year + a player (Michael Jenkins could probably use a change of scenery) or next year's 1st. We have a team that has a lot of holes to fill, but we also have a competent GM who had a pretty nice draft last year. We need to get him more picks so we can get used to picking in the 20s asap.

This year's 1st, 2nd, and 4th, and next year's 1st and 2nd.
The Falcons pick so low that it is almost like picking a round lower ... so their 2nd damn near equal our 3rd ... and so on.
If I'm in charge, and a team wants me to drop that far .... I'm taking everything they have.

I must disagree. I watch Hakeem Nicks and I'd rather have him than
Miles Austin and Dwayne Bowe
Hakeem Nicks is the real deal. He's a very good WR. At this point I'd want him on my team more than Reggie Wayne too (long term)
He has great hands, gets good separation, he can go long and he can run short routes too. I'm close to saying I'd want him more than Desean Jackson even (because while he isn't the same homerun hitter, he's better overall AKA you need to convert on third down, he'll do it)

I totally understand and I would want the house, the car, and the pets too, but I'm just saying there's no way Green makes a bigger impact than three players Heckert chooses in Round 3 and up.
...Especially on the Browns.
I wouldn't trade Suh for Joe Haden, TJ Ward, and Hardesty (let alone McCoy), but according to the value chart we would have owed Detroit one or two more 3rd round picks on top of the players mentioned. I believe in Heckert that's all.

you summed up my thoughts pretty well. i'd actually add Anquan Boldin to your list because of age and the fact Nicks is a better deep-ball threat.
only thing on DeSean is that he's a dynamic PR too. even with that it's a tossup there though (IMO).

Remove Haden, Ward, Hardesty, and McCoy then insert Suh into last years squad and we probably would be picking 1st this year (again).
...I'd rather win.

See, that right there is the big problem. I'm certain there will be a draft but will it be the same set up as we have now. Tell ya what, I'm all for getting some extra picks this year and next.. in theory. But in practice, without the knowledge of what will be,.. I'm gonna pass.

That's not the point. My original response was about a comment made about getting a superstar.
My point was that high talent players can be found anywhere in the 1st round. It's up to our front office to find them.

Roddy White and their #1.
They wouldn't do that. They are trying to get better at wideout. If they did that they would be breaking even and giving something up.
My thinking is our pick and Colt for their pick and Matt Ryan
Now, to be serious, to move to #27 from #6, it would take this years and next years 1st round pick, this years 2nd round pick, and a player....a pretty good player who isn't over 28 years old and has at least 2 years left on the contract...
I won't speculate on who that might be...it won't be a all-star, but a decent starting player at a position we need to bolster....DL...OL....LB are positions that come to mind.

Yep ... for them to move up to our spot is going to cost them a LOT ....... and probably future picks contingent upon there actually being a draft.
I don't think that we're going to move that far down for just a 2nd or anything stupid like that.

I'll even say we might get more if there are legs to this.
Green is a in state kid....he'd sell tickets in the state of Ga., and the Falcons feel they aren't far away with Ryan entering his prime years. The Falcons want him real happy in Atlanta, and with the weapons the team has put on the field with him.
Too bad the Cavs didn't think the same way.
Look to the lowest spot in the outhouse and you see how the Cavs surrounded their star player.

the ONLY way I would be comfortable trading back that far is if we address our needs with those picks... ie..
1st) Justin Houston - DE - UGA 2nd) Brooks Reed - DE - Arizona 2nd) Titus Young - WR - Boise St.
Houston and Reed wouldn't be bad...
It would cost them an arm and a leg though..
1st and 2nd this year.. 1st and 2nd next year.. and maybe add a 4th or 5th round in there for this year too..

It sounds nice in theory yet do you want to trade down to almost the end of the first round? an extra number one and a two is really almost a 2 and a 3 the picks are so late. I would rather find another partner.
