That's fair Purp. But when we have no receivers next year and we get two more sub-500 yard receiving seasons from Robiskie and Mass (and people are going to wonder where Stuckey went and why we let him go): you won't feel that way?

Because that little graemlin or whatever it's called that you posted is exactly how I will feel

And that's fair to say DC - You want a veteran who can mentor........ Just tell me who it is. And not Santana Moss, he sucks. May be Steve Smith? (From Giants, he's a FA I think and the Giants already have quite a few receivers). Just name someone decent because there isn't a lot out there

If we can just stabilize the QB position and get a more dynamic offensive system, both of those guys will go well over 500 yards...

I didn't say we HAD to go get a vet that can mentor, I said if we do go get a vet, it should be somebody who does not hold the possibility of blowing up our locker room. I would rather go with Moss and Robo and Cribbs and a couple young projects than bring in TO and risk blowing something up. What is our win total without TO compared to having a TO that cooperates and plays well? 1 extra win maybe? I don't see it as a deciding factor in us making the playoffs even if it goes as well as one could expect... but I do see a tremendous potential downside....

So, if we don't sign T.O., we won't have ANY new receivers?

Zoinks, I didn't realize things were so dire!
Quick, sign him ASAP and forget that he's a headcase that tears apart teams while being a media whore.

If we go the aging veteran route (and I'm not opposed to it) I want a guy that not only has a year or two left in the tank but that can serve as a mentoring type guy to the younger players and be a positive roll model for the young players on and off the field.. that leaves TO out.

In another thread when I brought up that Jake was apparently a good mentor for Colt, I was beat to death with "we have a QB coach" that's his job not jakes.

We don't need to bring in a veteran WR to mentor our younger guys. That's what our WR coach is for! Duh!

Well what are your options Purp (or anyone else)? Who would you say we sign in the event that we don't get AJ Green in the draft? Is there another draft pick this year that you think is going to be better than the guys we have? Julio Jones won't hit the 2nd round and Santonio Holmes will be back with the Jets.

So what's your option for improving our receiving corps or do you think that somehow our receivers, who have shown very little so far, are going to suddenly be decent?

Actually yes, I believe that if we can implement a better system and if Colt can stay healthy and we can have some continuity and more consistent play from the QB, I fully expect MoMass and Robo to look decent. I still think in the long run we need a legit #1 and that would only make MoMass and Robo better as 2 and 3 receivers but if the other things happen like I hope they do, then I expect more from those 2. (hard to say with the lockout though how our offense is going to look since we have a new coach, new system, new young QB, etc all trying to get on the same page and unable to really work together and communicate)

i'm of the belief that robo and mo mass, stuckey, those guys can actually thrive if there was another guy who was a clear cut #1 that could draw in a lot of attention.

the guys we have now have proven that they can catch and make the play, but they just don't have the skills to beat guys 1 on 1. you can play the browns receivers as honest as any other team's group.

You are a silver-tongued devil! Too optimistic here, and you give T(urn) O(ff) entirely too much credit. But hey, has skills and baggage. Pass. I thought it over, that's why I'm back. Yep, still hate him, and want him to be anywhere else.

Actually, I think just about ANY draft pick this year is going to be better than what we have at WR.

The world certainly does not begin and end with AJ Green, and bringing in TO is a terrible idea. You cannot convince me otherwise. There is no situation at all in which I could think that he is a viable answer for us.

Whomever we get, I do not believe we will bring in a "big" name... the offensive style doesn't need big names, it creates big names. A Lance Moore could do quite well here. Also look for us to bring in at least one guy from STL - Laurent Robinson or Mark Clayton. Santana Moss is another aging option, as is TJ Whosyourmama.

Either way, it's all academic unless free agency actually begins at some point.
