Well shoot, we have the Reds here and no Cavs tonight.
I'll dust off the old radio and see if I can get WTAM in tonight. I don't want to miss the final "Goooodnight everybody"

FSO is also airing a 1 hour special about Joe after the game... saw a few previews online and it looked great.
I feel like Bart Scott right now as I wait to hear this last game - Can't wait!

Going back to the incident the other night ........... http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2011/04/detroits_villanueva_suspended.htmlVillanueva fined: Charlie Villanueva of the Detroit Pistons has been suspended five games without pay for initiating an on-court altercation with Ryan Hollins and attempting to escalate the altercation by entering the Cavaliers' locker room on two occasions following his ejection, it was announced Wednesday by Stu Jackson, NBA executive vice president for basketball operations. The incident occurred with 5:47 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Cavs' 110-101 victory Monday at The Palace of Auburn Hills. Villanueva served the first game of his suspension Wednesday in Philadelphia. The remainder come in the first four 2011-12 regular-season games in which he is able to play. "I didn't know it was going to be that many games," Scott said. "But the fact that you're running toward the locker room and going into the locker room of the opposing team, obviously they are going to hit you pretty hard. "I still don't understand what he was doing. Only Charlie knows." Hollins was unavailable for comment before Wednesday's game.

all in all, i think it was actually a successful year for the cavs and the cavs fans.
they did the right thing, by not trying to buy into some delusion that they could compete this year, by trying to acquire some ridiculous player who'd have them floating between the 7 seed and the 1st team outta the playoffs. they layed low
but they still gave the fans a lot to cheer about, beating boston on opening night, beating the lakers, beating the knicks 3 times, 2 of which with anthony on the team, and they beat miami after the embarassment in december. they acquired a second lottery pick. they may have found a player or two that could be part of their future.
and i think they other thing is, they gained a lot of respect. prior to the season, the national writers flamed the cavs fans, saying yeah, attendance would be ok because of the prior commitment before lbj took his talents to a mediocre team. but they VASTLY underrated cavs fans. because walk up was incredible this year. they even outdrew miami on a night where we played philadelphia, and they had a nationally televised game against melo and the knicks. it's a testament to cleveland fans. they wanted to show bspn and all those blowhards that lebron was just another notch in the belt and nothing more.
i also want to applaud dan gilbert, because other than his garage tweet, he kept his mouth shut all year while lebron made himself look worse and worse after every comment and tweet. he'll probably never shake the comic sans letter but i think people have renewed faith in him that he's going to get this franchise back sooner than the experts think.

Thats a good point about how LBJ made himself look like a total jerk all season. Some of his comments, I just SMH. Its funny how when he was a young kid with the org, I was blind to his arrogance, I always thoguht he had a good head on his shoulders. Now that I'm removed, and seen how he has handled himself, it has been eye opening. I'm glad I dont have to stick up for him anymore.

and i think you may have been right at one time, about him having a good head on his shoulders.
i know several people who met him, all prior to 2008-2009ish. they all said he was incredibly nice, very gracious, polite. all of them. i really think something happened either when they lost to boston the first time or when they lost to orlando. something triggered in his head, or maybe someone polluted his head with garbage. or maybe you were right, that we were just blind to it all, and he was putting on a front his entire time in cleveland.
i really think those guys getting together in boston may have triggered something though. look at the time line. cavs go to finals, lose, but as an organization have to feel great because it was such a rag-tag group of guys. a few months later, the celtics add kevin garnett and ray allen, along with a few other good players.
a year later they beat the cavs in 7 games, with the last going back and forth, boston wins the finals and soon after that, beijing happens. lebron, wade, and bosh spend the next few weeks together. they win gold, and maybe they do come to some kind of agreement.
maybe he figured he couldn't win in cleveland because they could never really pull the moves like boston did, and maybe wade and bosh thought the same thing of their situations, with wade having the most enticing of the 3, because it's south beach.

it's my own opinion that lbj is a good guy, but has been steered way down the wrong path. i mean he's not raping or doing drugs, but just from a professional point of view.
i mean the guy did extend with us in 2006. so i do believe at one point, he was happy to be in cleveland and saw his future, in cleveland.
he could have been outta there a lot sooner, if he wanted.
that's why i believe something or someone triggered him. cause the lebron we knew back then, maybe he woulda left, but he never woulda done the decision.

Well ... perhaps we lucked into the injuries(?). This team probably would have won 40 with Varejao, Williams, Gibson, and Jamison healthy all year long. (and even Graham as well) The team would never have been forced to play guys like Eyenga, Harris, Samuels, and Gee without the injuries. They developed some depth for the future, which will help once we get the starters all in place. We also would probably not have made the Davis trade if we were floating around the 40 win range. We would then only have 1 lottery pick coming up. Overall, we had a lot of bad things happen this year .... but some silver lining type stuff in there as well.

you are correct in that the injuries were fortuitious. i still believe that the FO made it an edict to keep guys out if they weren't 100% (i.e. maybe AV could have come back for the end of March, but what's the point in that, so get him all the rehab and rest we can get him)
that's a solid way of doing things because you aren't really tanking, yet you will affect your win/loss.
if you want to see tanking, then you have to watch Memphis. I hope the Spurs sweep them out of the playoffs for the blatant tank job they have done this week to grab the 8seed (I watched the 1st quarter last night where they literally didn't even bother to try to play. Clips went up 12-0 before they even ran an offensive play.)

oh, Derrick Williams declared. That is good for the Cavs because it gives us a better chance at landing at least one really good player in case we don't win the lottery (or if we decide he's the best guy, then we could get him)

i believe the cavs chances are 19.9% and 2.8%
worst case is the #5 and #11 pick, i believe.

you are correct. getting the #11 pick would be absolutely crazy of course (all 3 lotto winners would have to be below the Clippers).
worst case that is likely I would say is #5 and #9 (1 team below the Clips and we don't win the lotto).
I'm hoping for Irving/Kanter. Wouldn't mind Vesely or Knight. Add in Derrick Williams and Barnes and those are really the only 6 guys I want (and if we get Irving, then obviously we are not drafting Knight)

if minnesota does indeed win the lotto, do they take irving?
with flynn on the roster for 2 more seasons, and ridnour for 3, plus the rumors of rubio finally coming over? i would think they still do, but i dunno, that's quite a logjam in your backcourt. i wonder if they consider trading that pick.

everywhere I have read has them taking Irving. If I was them, I'd take Barnes (assuming he comes out), but Flynn is an inexperienced Ramon Sessions and Ridnour is bench fodder at this point. They have no PG (and there are still major rumblings that Rubio is "being good" so he doesn't submarine his trade value again).
Can you imagine if we drafted 3 PGs in one draft and still didn't have a PG of the future?
Or if we drafted/traded-for every single disappointing PF prospect in the NBA (ok, let's say Blatche is a C prospect to make that work better)?
I'm going to do a post on the state of the lotto teams at some point and rank where they are going forward. Without doing the research, I think the Twolves are going to be at the bottom (I like Hickson better than Love, so they don't even have that).

Both Love and Hickson have been in the league for three years. Both are twenty-two years old. Both are on crappy teams.
Love just completed a season in which he averaged 20 points and 15 (5 offensive) rebounds per game. Hickson averaged 14 and 9 per game.
Love also averaged a full assist more per game (2.5 to 1.5).
But there has to be something Hickson is better in love in right? Your right. There is. Hickson had 2.2 turnovers per game. Love had 2.1. Love also hit .417% of his three pointers (88 overall made three pointers). Hickson attempted 5 threes and made none.
Hickson made 67% of his free throws. Love 85%.
And Love played in the better overall conference so his competition was better.
There is no argument that you can make that says Hickson is better than Love.

Has anyone figured out what our odds of getting the top pick are given the pair of lottery picks we have? I know we have a 19.9% shot at the top pick with our own pick ..... but what are our odds with our pick combined with the pick we got from the Clippers? I'm not sure how many ping pong balls that adds to the equation. Could you imagine if the Clippers pick gets pulled first overall?

i believe if you add the two percentages together, that's what you get. because it's based on # of combinations.
just one more reason why APPBITH (or #APPBITH) is stupid. you don't get extra ping pong balls. it doesn't work like that. you get more combination numbers. you basically get more lottery tickets.

I just wanted to say I didn't care how many games the Heat might win in the regular season. I do want them to lose in the playoffs though. I won't be angry if they win it all but it sure would be nice to see them fail now.

don't really care either way. i won't be sitting there hoping they lose.
although if they do, i think it'll be funny that national writers will ANNIHILIATE lebron, but bspn will keep the apologize train going, just like they did the day after the decision when stuart scott was on mike and mike lacing into cleveland fans, as if it were our fault that the world hated lebron james and people were slamming bspn for creating the forum for him to throw away his image.
i do want to see heat and celtics, because it'd be great series, great entertainment, but as i have said in this topic, i don't want celtics v lakers ver 54313. i've had enough. i'm not watching. and i always watch the finals.
some possible matchups i'd like to see?
okc/heat, okc/chi, LAL/heat, LAL/chi, dal/anybody, orl/okc
those are just high seeds, cause we know that the lower seeds don't really have much of a chance.

Love accepted that he is best in the low-post from day1. that is where he wants to be and thrives. Hickson, for whatever reason, did not accept this and it took Byron Scott sitting him on the bench off an on in the 1st half to realize it.
From what I saw of him the 2nd half of this season, plus knowing his athleticism from watching his game the past few seasons, he has a much higher ceiling.
Yes, Love has outplayed Hickson so far in their careers (except Hickson has shown more on defense and is a better shot blocker). However, I don't think Love is getting much better while Hickson is still improving and can be a true dominant post player whereas Love's ceiling is Zach Randolph (which isn't bad).
Just because of where they are at today doesn't mean that's where they will be at tomorrow.

i could see a situation where maybe jj does end up being better. if he fills out a bit, improves his jumper, and mentally is ready to be a 2nd option kinda player (that's his ceiling to me. not a primary scorer, best case scenario is he's a number 2) but right now i couldn't have him above kevin love.
with love, i wanna see him do what he does now on a good team, which needs he'll probably need to be dealt. (cue the bill simmons "KAAAAAAHNNN!")

I don't know much about Kanter but I see some Darko side in him.
The guys I like are...
Derrick Williams Kyrie Irving Harrison Barnes Brandon Knight.
If I had to pick two out of the top 10 or I'd go with Irving and Williams. Irving reminds me of Terrell Brandon with slightly more potential. Williams is like Shawn Marion + LeBron James/2

I can't say I know for sure on Kanter, but the limited I've seen him play (mostly clips from the Nike Summit) and everything I have read is that he is a polished inside scorer, able to power when necessary and an equally adept passer. He's also an NBA-legit C size.
The main knocks on him are his defense and that he hasn't played in a year.
It's possible he's a bust waiting to happen, but he 'sounds' like a good guy to draft in this weak draft. We need to wrap-up our PG and C spots, which are the toughest to do, so I admit that I am drawn towards doing just that.

One thing I can agree with, I won't be "sitting" anywhere hoping they lose - I plan to watch less than zero minutes of playoff basketball this year.

maybe i'm not pulling for them to lose so much because i honestly don't think they'll win. this year or next year. the way that team is set up now, they aren't beating teams. they're very good on defense, they're wonderful in transition and their halfcourt offense is not nearly good enough (sound familiar?)

it's all about whether or not they figure out how to utilize all 3 options in crunch time. if LeBron or Wade starts with the ball, but there's backdoor motion between the other and Bosh, then there's lethal scoring potential. but, they don't do it (crunchtime or otherwise)
i still say that Donyell Marshall missing that corner-3 in 07game2vsPistons and the ensuing fallout did irreparable harm to LeBron's clutchtime effectiveness. before that game, he was always willing to give up the rock if someone was wide open (ala Paxson's game6 dagger vs. Suns). after that game, he always takes the shot if the ball is in his hands.

Right. Cavs have a 22.7 chance of getting the first pick overall (19.9+2.8), a 66% chance of getting a top 3 pick, and can pick no lower than 5th.
