Same here - although I did follow the Cavs all year, I haven't watched a single minute of any post-season game and I'm quite happy with that. At this time the only part of the NBA that get's any interest from me is this thread.

I wouldn't make trade 1 without trade 2, because it would decimate the quality part of the team ..... and I doubt that trade 2 would ever happen.
I would rather see if we can grab a quality player using our trade exemption. An above average SG or SF would help this team tremendously.

Yes, a huge pipe dream ... again, the only way it happens if they know for sure that Dwight has no intention of coming back ... and besides, they could probably get better offers for him anyway.
If somehow it did get pulled off, I'm not sure we'd be in that great of a position anyway. It would leave us with a four-man version of the Heat (2 all-nba stars, 2-borderline all-stars, and 11 D-leagers. If we didn't win a championship ... then it's a better than good possibility that Dwight and Paul both leave ... which would leave us high and dry for years.

Depending on how the labor situation appears headed, the exemption could be extremely valuable.
If it looks like a team is going to be way over a new cap, and will thus be in a world of hurt, a valuable player could become available for the exemption. Hell, a desperate team might even throw in a draft pick to add to the deal.
If the owners books do indeed show that some teams are in danger of failing, then the players may be faced with the prospect of either taking a lower cap, or seeing jobs lost as teams fold. If it does come down to that, then I could see a lowered cap, with a hard cap transitioned in over a few years. If this is where it appears the league is headed, then the exemption we have could be very valuable. It might even be that we take a pretty damn good player, and a draft pick in exchange for the exemption and 1 or 2 of our backups from this year's team.
A lot depends on how the CBA winds appear to be blowing, A smart team might dump a valuable player to position themselves below an anticipated cap ... instead of taking some penalty that would be even more difficult to deal with.

It's 100% panic-freak-out mode here in L.A. after the game tonight.
The Lakers lucked out in getting either Portland or Dallas in the 2nd round as they have older point guards who can't torch them. But when they face the Thunder (who I fully expect to beat the Spurs/Grizzlies) they are in some major trouble. Chris Paul is beating them pretty much by himself. Russell Westbrook is no Chris Paul, but he can get the basket at will...and the Hornets don't have Kevin Durant. And the Thunder have Perkins, Ibaka, Collison, and Muhammad to throw at Bynum/Gasol. Sefolosha and Harden can at least slow down Kobe (who isn't that great anymore anyway).
Thunder in the finals.

4 years ago, the spurs kicked lbj's ass, and coming full circle 4 years later, they kick his ass again, despite him not having his AAU-level teammates in cleveland.
oh and hey, did bristol explode yesterday after their knicks failed on the big stage? i love that bspn thinks all you need to do is throw together a few all stars and you're going to make the finals. i think people underestimated what happened in that one year with the celtics. they were the exception, not the rule.
i've been impressed with the hornets. they won't win but they have been a fun watch. chris paul is a lot of fun to watch. i still think LA gets to the finals, but they look really really beat up. and i couldn't argue against someone picking them to not make it.

I watched the end of the ABC coverage of the Celtics/Knicks game .... and they were still playing New York inspired songs after the Knicks got swept.
It was unreal.

I think that ESPN doesn't care who made it between the Celtics and Knicks. Both are huge ratings draws. But, if they do want one team to make it over another can you blame them? They are running a business and the goal of any business is to make money.

i just find it funny that on one hand they want to be neutral and they won't let kirk herbstreit or ron jaworski pick the the games they are doing, but on the other hand they have no problems waving the pom poms for their favorite teams. yankees, red sox, knicks, anybody in the nfc east, patriots, etc.

they probably did have more yes, but only because of the time zone differences. althoughthe lakers did play a ton on thursdays and sunday afternoons. so i don't think the difference was that much.
although during the times the lakers were on, bspn wasn't fawning about how great kobe would look in a knicks jersey. just sayin.

We must've been watching different channels. The only person I remember doing that is Tony Kornheiser, who is a New Yorker, an admitted Knicks fan, and whose job it is to give his opinion.
And even if ESPN did push LeBron to a bigger market it didn't work. Miami is the 16th largest TV market. Cleveland is 17th.
Blame whoever you want, LeBron left because he just wanted to play with his buddies in a city where he could party.

you must've missed all the build up to the 2 trips to madison square garden last year, where they had entire sportscenter episodes dedicated to showing the knicks and their assumption that lbj was going there. i don't blame them for him lbj taking his talents, (although i think they had their part in it) i am simply pointing out how objective they aren't being.
even during the one game that was televised on espn, they were doing nothing the entire game but talking about how great it would be for lbj to be in nyc, all while the cavs were kicking their asses all over the court. we're having different conversations here. my point was that the media makes a joke of themselves on one hand and on the other, tries to tell their personalities not to pick a winner because they are doing color commentary for the game.
it's a joke.

That breakdown lists the market as "Cleveland/Mentor/Elyria". Akron and Canton/Massillon are shown as separate markets, though I would certainly consider them to be of the Cleveland market as far as sports viewership is concerned. That's another 1.2 million people.
I'd also be curious as to what percentage of the population of Dade/Broward counties is relocated elderly who have no allegiance to the sports teams of south Florida.
