I second that emotion. Can breath just that much easier. Still one friend unaccounted for in Tennesse....hopefully I hear from her soon.

Peen,
Glad to hear from you.

It is really bad to hear that there are this many deaths this early after the storm. And there are thousands of injured. I was listening to many scanners and there were so many not accounted for, so many unreachable, so many stories that had tears in my eyes. I was trying to get done on a project at home and I couldn't even concentrate. I heard people trapped in homes by the hundreds, people in cars crushed by trees (at least 2-3 dozen), people trying to get to the hospital with amputated limbs. They said on one of the tv stations last night that they were very worried because alot of homes in the affected areas do not have basements and you really needed to be underground last night.

And also, for everyone who says that big storms don't hit the big cities or around tall buildings or through mountains, they did all of that and way more last night.
We have had a pretty rough winter and now a record setting tornado early spring; I just hope that it does not extend into May-June cause that is when we get our bad storms.

And Michelle, I was thinking on some other ideas to help you with your good idea. I may check with one of my trainers from the weather service in Cleveland to see if there are any online tools like the skywarn training they give us so that the people that are uncertain on what to do if a situation like this came up would know.

I had some tree work done in Feb so we didn't have any tree damage....just some little stuff to pick up.

Just in the neighborhood I have counted 9 big oaks on the ground.

Still don't have any power, so I am sitting here at Krystal, charging up the battery. Still about 65,000 without, but seeing as nearly 50 people inside a radius maybe 40 miles died, power loss is nothing.

So until the power kicks in, I'll just check in from time to time.

Just got powered up a little while back.

The obituaries were especially sad this morning....in some cases entire families are listed.

One 9-10 year old boys body was found in a tree about 1/2 mile away from his house.

In Rainesville, Ala, about 20 miles over the mountain as the crow flies, they found 9 bodies on the same street..

It's going to take people around here a good while to get over last Wednesday.

Glad you got your power back.

It is so sad to read the stories of how people were killed or injured. I have a bad feeling they'll be finding victims for some time to come.

Not sure if any are missing now or not...I know on the radio they were saying to report locations if you notice buzzards on the ground or circling.

Not a pleasant thought.

Not a pleasant thought at all Peen.

Just got off the phone with my girl in Tennessee and they are getting bad storms AGAIN. She was giving me some very scary descriptions of the cloud formations near her house. She also said that there was definite rotation to the clouds. Some areas are already experiencing hail that is 3.75" in diameter. They have extensive damage to the trees in their area but are slowly getting things cleared up.

Wow....that's big hail.

I had some easily the size of a quarter.....and that is when I got pretty nervous.

After the last storm had passed...at least it seemed, the sky turned a yellowish green...it's the only way I can describe it...and it got real calm, then the quarter sized hail began to fall...I was standing in the doorway...I left the door open and headed to the safe room not far away....I thought we were about to get clobbered. It skipped over us.

I think that was the tornado that hit in Bradley Co.....in the Cleveland area about 20 miles north.

In Hamilton Co....my county, we had 3 confirmed tornado touchdowns...that's enough to rack your nerves.

We have a dawg on here who moved to Tuscaloosa last year....darn, I can't remember his name.....hope all is ok.

Peen, was it this thread?

If so, it's CaptainPhil. Hope he's okay. ***EDIT - after a username search, it appears CaptainPhil is in the Nashville area from a January 2011 post.

NOAA: Record 312 tornadoes in 24 hours last week
(AP) – 22 hours ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — Preliminary government estimates say there were more tornadoes in a single day last week than any other day in U.S. history.
Government analysts said Monday there were 362 tornadoes during last week's outbreak, including a record-setting 312 in one 24-hour period.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said the largest previous number on record in one event occurred from April 3-4, 1974, with 148 tornadoes.
NOAA says 340 people were killed during the 24-hour-period from 8:00 a.m. Wednesday to Thursday.
It was the deadliest single day for tornadoes since the March 18, 1925, tornado outbreak that had 747 fatalities across 7 states.

It will be interesting to see if NOAA and the SPC come to an agreement on the number of twisters. I also believe the death toll will continue to rise. Hundreds are still missing.

That's horrible.

I hope that those in its path were able to find shelter, and that no one was seriously hurt or killed.

Natural disasters are one of those things that have always made me ask how God could let something like that happen. I guess He has a plan though.

Im in Oklahoma as we speak, because my sister graduated yesterday from Missouri Southern State University...located in Joplin, Missouri. I was there all day yesterday and thank god my dad and brothers left the Holiday Inn at noon, about 5 hours before the tornado hit. My sister is especially shaken because not only is the high school she interned at completely destroyed, she has several friends who work at St John's, the hospital that was directly hit and she is unable to get ahold of them because there is no power in the city and the cell phone towers are down. I just thank god her graduation was yesterday instead of today. My prayers go out to everyone in Joplin and the affected areas.

I'm heading to Joplin this morning to go and dig out my in-laws. They're fine thank goodness, the house, mostly okay, the back porch is gone and I have to go hack a fallen tree to bits to clear their driveway. They have no water or power at the moment and while we did secure a hotel room for them last night, they couldn't get out of their driveway because of the tree and taxi's couldn't get into the area to get them. I'm just hoping we can get into the area tomorrow.

If you are heading into that area tomorrow (eastern Oklahoma-sw Missouri) there is going to be a significant severe weather possibility in that general area. Stay safe and keep an eye to the sky!

For everyone in the Cincinnati-Dayton areas, Lima in western Ohio and in the Cleveland area, there are tornado warnings for all 3 areas.

Yeah, northern Summit County has a Tornado Warning right now. Looking to the north of where I am, the sky looks pretty nasty.

Yeah getting a pretty gross storm right now. It blew our big Rumpke can over into the street. The driveway is on a slight hill.

Thanks, they're doing well. We got them cut out today, basically a path out of their drive so they could get to the street. They're now in a hotel room and from the looks of it all, they could be there for months.

What a disaster Joplin is. While my in-laws house was standing, I use that one a bit loosely as I'm not convinced it will continue in that fashion, their neighbors weren't so lucky.

I took a bunch of pics before I started cutting trees today and I'll try to post a few.

Maybe.....but having been through some scary times a few weeks back, it's always better being removed....it isn't all that fascinating when the winds get eerily calm, then the sky turns a yellowish green, and quarter sized hail starts to fall.

Only the next day you realize the cell that knocked down about 50 big ass trees(no joke) about 300 yards from your home, then jumped skyward only to land as a tornado again about 10 miles north to destroy a few dozen homes and kill about 10 people it isn't all that fascinating.....just simply terrifying.

Oh, I agree. I have never been directly in a tornado, but I went to Newton Falls, OH the day after the one hit in 1985. Think Hiroshima. Just unbelievable.

But, still amazingly fascinating.

I drove through Cleveland, Tennessee just hours after the tornados touched down ........it was extremely freaky.

I never ever seen any damage like that..........just as bad as a warzone!

And to think a hospital was hit today, in the midwest....very sad for all those good folks!

Did anyone catch that "Tornado Rampage" show on Discovery? There was some awesome footage of those Tennessee and Alabam tornados. That must have been horrible to experience. I want to see a tornado before I die.........but not right before I die.

Man, how lucky was it that the big tree in front fell the direction it did, and not the other way?

I hope that everyone will consider a donation to the Red Cross or other relief organization to help those affected out.

Most overhyped storm ever here in Dayton last night lol.

Everyone was freaking out. I was at the store, and the girlfriend called me, freaking out to get home cuz of all the tornado warnings and whatnot that were out.

It ended up raining all of 5 minutes lol.

Look on the bright side, at least you got home in time to watch the Red Sox win.
