Thanks I just read in the other Fraley thread an ESPN confirmation of the signing and in it states we traded for him with a 5th round 08 pick.

Whatever the conditions...I think its pretty official it for a 5th round 08 pick.

And the way we are building a team - hopefully that 5th rounder would have a tough time making the team by 08's draft

JMHappyDay!

If we go to the Super Bowl this year, it would almost be a 6th rounder...

The sky looks very orange today...huh...

Funny isn´t it: 2 former misused Browns "C/Gs" are now starting Cs in the NFL: O´Hara and Fowler...and we have almost 10mil invested in C (Bentley+Hank) and have to give up next years 5th rounder.....that´s Cleveland Browns Football for you

And don't forget Jeff Faine, who put together a very solid year in New Orleans.

I really thought the contract would be higher, especially given the fact that O'Hara signed at $4 million a year.

Good for all parties involved.

I know O'Hara was 5 year? 4 mil a year?

Hope Hank got at least 5 mil in signing bonus...that is what I've said all along should be his price.

That would leave about 1 mil per year....Perfect for a good veteran to pay per season in 09 n 10 as a Super Sub assuming Bentley comes back to form and we got some nice young studs at OG!

DawgFace... ??? Sometimes I don't know when people are insulting me or not? In any case what ever you're trying to communicate...it didn't come across...sorry.

Before hosting Steinbach, the Browns opened the free-agent signing period by agreeing to terms on a four-year deal worth approximately $9 million with center Hank Fraley.

Since he was never actually a free agent............

That's less than I thought he'd agree to. Good for us *L*

Not to nit-pick, but it's $2.25 million per year.

This just goes to show that Hank wanted to stay in Cleveland. He may not be the best center in the NFL but he is showing loyalty to our Browns and for that I commend him. He probably could have gotten more money somewhere else but he and his wife chose to stay here. It seems to me and from the reports Ive read that the Browns wanted Ohara back but Id take Hank any day at the contract we've got him in comparison to paying Ohara 20 mil. In my opinion I think Hank is every bit as good as Ohara anyway. Good for Hank and his fam he didnt take us to the cleaners even though he was the FO's second choice. We all know we'd rather have him here then Ohara. Now hopefully we get Bentley back sometime next season and wherever they both play our OL will be a force to be reckoned with..

Nope, Hank probably isn't the best center in the league, and as such, he is being paid accordingly.

Now, show me another center in the league that makes an initial block at the line, then careens downfield in "search and destroy" mode better than Mr. Fraley.

Best center? Probably not. Most heart? Probably.

Fraley's deal:

Center Hank Fraley's deal with the Browns was for four years and $9 million, including a signing bonus of between $2.5 million and $3 million.

from this Steinbach-article: http://www.cleveland.com/browns/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1172914403144500.xml&coll=2

Again, great job Phil.....just looking at the O´Hara contract (5years, 19mil, 7 guaranteed), I was expecting a whole lot more....great job: Hank and Danielle are happy and so should the FO and the fans

Savage is on the job..............he is doing the right thing to make this a better team............we all know that is his job!

To bring Steinbach in and get him signed without seeing other teams and getting Fraley signed just minutes before free agency speaks tons for him!

I have a feeling that he is not getting much rest right now...............hopefully he has his eyes on a decent DL next..............and possibly a RB or CB as well.

Savage is an awesom GM.............he is hard to figure out............that is not a bad thing!

Go Phil..................bring in the help we need!

Signing Fraley and Steinbach makes me feel a lot better about our O-Line. We only need two more O-Linemen now.

2?

I got:

Fraley
Steinbach
Schaffer
Tucker

seems like we just need one more.. maybe Joe Thomas will be that one.. i hope we get Peterson b/c he will be the game changing RB that the Browns need.. but if we get Joe Thomas.. I wont be mad..

I think we can get a talented lineman in the 2nd or 3rd rounds though.. more so the 2nd round..

One starter if Tucker comes back, but we need insurance, and at least a competent backup just in case he has a relapse.

I think the line is done with the exception of a 2nd round guard to battle with Sowells. Done as far as "big ticket" players.

LT...Shaffer
LG..Steinback
C...Fraley
RG...Sowells/Rook
RT....Tucker

Reserves...Smith,Druzzi.

That is 8 players...we will keep 9-10....is there another obvious reserve I am missing??

we need 4 more Olineman. I can't remember a year in which at least 3 lineman didn't go down with injury. we all thought the same thing last year, we've got a great line with Shaffer, Druzzi, Bentley, Coleman and Tucker. Shaffer is the only one who made it though. Druzzi was injured all year. Bentely didn't play a game. Tucker missed five.

Until we have 8 starter quality lineman, we'll suffer. What does our oline look like if Steinbach is injured, if Fraley's age starts to catch up with him, if tucker relapses. All three of those could easily happen in the same year. That would give us:

Shaffer
Andruzzi
R. Smith
Sowells
Butler

How do you feel about that line up? We need more than one good draft pick. We need another year of FA and draft after this one to complete this line, if savage and romeo make it that far.

5 year plan people. This is year 3.

Teams carry 8-9 Olinemen....maybe 10 tops.

Who do you cut to carry these "4 more" linemen you propose?? We aren't going to carry 12 linemen. If they are decent, they will have to clear waivers before we can put them on the practice squad, and then can be plucked at any time without compensation.

Sorry, you just can't bring in 3-4 rookie linemen at one time.

that's why I said TWO years, of Free agency AND the draft. Our oline isn't going to be good this year. MAYBE next year.

Who would I cut? Every Olineman except those who have proven to be quality starters: Shaffer, Bentley, Tucker, Steinbach, Fraley. If any of those can't make it, I'd be happy to replace them, too.

Until they prove otherwise, Butler, Dorsey, Andruzzi, Smith, Hoffman, Sowells and whoever else we have lying around aren't starters. I'm not saying some of them won't develop. I have high hopes for Sowells myself. But this year so far, we have 4 starters. And we need 8.

that may be the way it ends up Peen but I'm still hoping that we take Thomas in the First round... that would make my day..

I'd be happy with Peterson I guess,,, Or Branch as well.

But Thomas is my perfect fit for the browns,,

Think about it,,

Thomas, Stienbach, Fraley, TUCKER, Shaffer

Now that's a line if Thomas turns out to be all that he's supposed to be.....

I think Quinn is gonna be there when we pick but I"m guessing that savage passes on him.. Just a guess however... If he takes him, then I'm gonna hope that I'm wrong about him not being the next great QB..

Daman,
I was/am an AP guy but since the signing of Steinbach, I've been having the same feelings about drafting Thomas. I would LOVE it. Don't ask me why I waited until we got Steinbach. Maybe because it's just that much easier to visualize our line now with that piece being filled, but do you really think JT will be there? Or did Detroit put themselves in the perfect position to trade down by finding their LT in FA? I would hate to get my hopes set on Thomas and then have someone jump in front of us and take him at #2. However, I guess if that happens, we just take AP. Not a bad situation either way. Sorry if this was kind of a dumb post with me answering all my own questions and whatnot, just thinking out loud. And really bored!!!!

There are plenty of premium players that will be on the board, we are bound to get a good one at three,,,, AP, Branch,, I know I'm gonna get yelled at,,, but even Okoye would be good..

That's exactly what I said,,,, I think you might have meant Shaffer at RG and Tucker at RT,,, am I right?

But yes, either way, our line is greatly improved,,, GREATLY,,,,
