I must not be listening to the same thing that you are.

"I told them to make Bin Laden the top priority" like he wasn't for 7 years prior to his administration

then he talked about himself authorizing this and that for another 2-3 minutes and I had to go clean the puke out of my mouth so I might have missed a bit there in the middle.

AND BTW.. remember when Obama was showing respect to Pakistan, and there were those who were very critical of how he pronounced the name of the country, how he met with their leaders..etc.

Actually IIRC I think he did say it was today with Pakistan help.

Also he deserves credit for authorizing the attack. Look even if everyone in America wanted this guy dead the President still gave clearance to go after him and most likely to kill him (even if he won't admit to giving a kill order). Its no small feat for a person to order the death of another. He is a religious man and just ordered the murder of another, is that such an easy feat that it deserves no praise? Please give credit where credit is due to the armed forces and to its commander and chief.

It'd be cool until you realize you are Al Queda's number 1 target now. That is why they should never release which branch went in after Osama.

Loki, any president would have given that order. Obama just got lucky he was found during his watch. I just hope the round that was placed in bin laden's head was red, white, and blue.

I am with you. I think he was respectful to Bush for what he had done. At the very least he didn't take jabs at him which has been his administrations typical behavior.

I agree... and at the very least besides the point he made to say he made this a primary goal when he took over (like it wasn't before) I think he was respectful overall... I'm sure many will use this to bolster his politcal well being...

I just pray for our military and am thankful to live in the country that I do.

Of course any president would have made that call. The only problem with that line of thought is no other president did make that call. Obama did make the call and he has to live with that the rest of his life. I don't care if Osama was a scumbag Obama as a Christian is suppose to believe in forgiveness and one of the commandments are thou shall not kill. Unless Christianity has a its okay to murder someone rule I do not know about, he still made a decision fundamentally against his religion.

He gave the order and he gets the credit along with the military, spies, and whoever else contributed. You really think any other President wouldn't take the credit for that? Bush seemed to be pretty proud of himself when Saddam was found IRC.

May I just add that it's nice to know that the last thing to go through bin Laden's mind ..... was a US bullet.

Anyway ...... statements on bin Laden by former Presidents ....

George W Bush:

Link

As reported by Bret Baier, below is the statement released tonight by Former President George W. Bush on news of the death of Usama Bin Laden by U.S. forces:

Earlier this evening, President Obama called to inform me that American forces killed Osama bin Laden, the leader of the al Qaeda network that attacked America on September 11, 2001. I congratulated him and the men and women of our military and intelligence communities who devoted their lives to this mission. They have our everlasting gratitude. This momentous achievement marks a victory for America, for people who seek peace around the world, and for all those who lost loved ones on September 11, 2001. The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done.

Bill Clinton:

Former President Bill Clinton, who was in office for the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, also issued a written statement.

"I congratulate the President, the National Security team and the members of our armed forces on bringing Osama bin Laden to justice after more than a decade of murderous al-Qaida attacks," he said.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

Any President that commits the use of force goes through the same exact thing. I do not think Obama had anymore pressure to make that decision. I give him a lot of credit for agreeing to the operation. I don't think the decision came to him as easily as it would have been to Bush.

BTW.. Bush is also a Christian.

Bush II *did* make the call ... unfortunatly Osama escaped. Clinton had his chance to make the call too, and passed.

I thought his speech was pretty good. Outside the middle part where he made sure to know that "he" made the call (as if he would pass the decision or somebody else would make it for him) ... and where he said that going after Osama was priority #1 (as if it wasn't already). He spoke in unifying terms, DIDN'T make it a "haha"-match about the last administration, and also echoed a lot of the sentiment that Bush did about us protecting ourselves from people who wish to harm us and that this wasn't a war against islam. I thought he did a good job, outside of the little bit of back patting.

So the teachings of Jesus and the ten commandments are only useful when convenient. Yep sounds like religion...follow the rules but only when they are convenient for me or my group.

People will always hear what they want to hear. Obama was as bi-partisan as you could possibly be in a speech like that.

With that said, he certainly should take the credit. Why? Because it happend under his watch. He's the commander in chief so why wouldn't he say "I gave the order to kill him"? I don't find that as too abrasive. It's certainly a very, very prideful moment for him in his political career.

Should he take all of it? Well obviously no and he mentioned Bush, etc. so everyone should take a deep breath. It's a great day for America......why can't we just relax on all the moaning for 1 day?

What I'm saying is the difference between murder and war is semantics. People die and most of them innocent. Either way giving a kill order for Bin Laden is fundamentally against Christianity (thou shall not murder, turn the other cheek...etc). Obama still issued an order that was against his religion no matter if the person was a scumbag. Obama deserves credit for it. Bush would have ordered but he didn't Obama did therefore he deserves the credit.

As bad as you guys like to push Mac..There are people who are his equal just republican leaning. As one poster said above. You saw what you wanted to see in that video.

The commandment says, "Thou shalt not murder." This is not murder, it's war. View it in the same light as god commanding Joshua to kill every living thing in Jericho after the walls fell, just a mere 40 years after commanding thou shalt not murder.

I am anti-war myself, and pretty jaded with religion in general, growing up in a fundamentalist baptist home. I saw plenty of hypocritical suggestions made (earth spins around the sun, what???). That said, the confusion of 'thou shalt not kill' is really about murder which is punishable by death in the bible. Exceptions are made, In Exodus 22 for instance if a thief enters your home and you kill him in self defense, you were not to be put to death for this. Exceptions were made for warfare, but I don't agree with all placed in the bible. That said I don't consider soldiers to be murderers as long as they aren't killing innocents or other treacherous acts. That goes for all soldiers, not just the ones from my country.

Be careful how you word your retorts regarding religion. Your black and white viewpoint of murder and killing reminds me all too much of the fundamentalist teachings I grew to despise as I grew older, just on the opposite spectrum.

Define innocent? Are you so naive that you don't think innocents are killed in wars? Need i remind you:

http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/the-kill-team-20110327

Maybe that's why religion isn't for me. There are no absolutes just a bunch of things open to interpretation and rationalization.
