Yeah, me too. I can't see risking the potential PR backlash just to appease the nay-sayers and conspiracy hounds.

What the heck?????

Anyway - I agree with the admin not showing the pic. Wouldn't convince anyone anyway.

If he was shot in the head - trust me, the seals don't use blow guns - his head would be gruesome. It would only serve to antagonize people.

On a personal level, I'd like to see the pic. But I agree with not showing it. (although the enemy doesn't much care when they have no qualms about showing beheadings. Or when they parade dead Americans around - dead, burned Americans.)

I don't see quite how showing the pictures would make the haters hate us any more - the respect shown to the body doesn't matter to them anyway.

But, I agree with not showing the pics.

Okay, random question ... if a terrorist dies he's suppose to go to some sort of paradise with 70 virgins. What happens to a female terrorist? Does she go to a paradise with 70 guys that have no idea what to do?

Potential backlash from a group of people that already want us dead? Who cares? These people killed Americans in the most sadistic ways - on videocam - and then hold up the severed head; they hung our KIA soldiers' bodies upside down and displayed them in public; they drug our soldiers bodies behind cars through the streets of Mogadishu ... and we should concern ourselves with their fragile sensibilities? F that, they only understand brutality anyway. Show them what happens to people that attack us.
People in this country have a right to see those photos; we paid for them. It has nothing to do with being a "naysayer" or a conspiracist. Politicians work for us, and they need to understand that. Show the photo, or photos, and be done with it.

I say we make this photo very easy for Wiki-leaks to get. Let them show it.

They live in private compounds for over a decade while we launch two wars on people who didn't attack us?

Actually, China did.

Me? I could care less about seeing the photos or not. But I understand why people would want to see them. Also understand why people don't want them released.

Why? Because we might upset a muslim? A cartoon bear with the name muhammed upsets muslims. The wind blowing from the west upsets muslims. You really mean to tell me that a picture of a ventalated bin laden will upset them more than the actual ventalation?

Dave...so you want the United States to act like our enemy does?

I do believe we are better than that...jmho.

Dave, you speak/write like someone who has nothing at risk...no son or daughter serving, risking their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan...or somewhere else...IN HARMS WAY.

At this time, the United States has approx. 150k soldiers in harms way...I do believe Americans need to put their emotional opinions aside and think about those soldiers.

It's not about "you" or "me"...it is about our soldiers who put their lives on the line. If not showing the photos keep our soldiers a little safer, I would think most Americans would be willing to sacrifice their curiosity.

Let Bin Laden prove he's alive...we don't have to prove he's dead !!!

Considering we have some high ranking members of the GOP coming out and saying they've seen the pics, they believe he's dead, let's move on, I'd say I'm pretty darn convinced the guy is dead.

Here's the thing -- the photos will leak sooner or later. Anyone with the desire to see his bullet-ridden corpse will get a chance to.

No need rolling them officially. It's not about not pissing off Muslims, it's about thinking of the kids who are over there. We've made enough mistakes to put them in harm's way ... no reason to fan the flames.

bin Laden's day has passed. No reason to give him any more.

Do you really think showing a photo is going to enrage them more than the actual killing of OBL?

And you're wrong mac, our soldiers aren't the only ones in harms way. Just look at all the non-military people that were in harms way on 9/11.

My nephew is leaving in 2 weeks for his 2nd tour in Afghanistan, after 2 tours in Iraq - so stick your presumptions upwards. 3000 of our countrymen died on 9/11/01 because of Bin Laden, and our paternal and patronizing leaders have the nerve to tell us what we do or don't need to see. Its infuriating.

But you're going to see it any way. Does anyone have any doubt that it won't be all over the internet within a month or so?

I couldn't care less either way.

Show it? Honest transparency, closure for some.

Don't show it? Evade the unseemly chest-bump aspect of showing corpses.

Always found looking at dead bodies and corpses and such to be kind of seedy and pervy. But that's just me. I know a lot of folks who are interested in seeing dead celebs bodies and such ... never was my cup of tea.

if we really don't want the photo to get out, then no, I don't expect it to get leaked. the film/photos are likely to be all contained at this point and locked up where noone can leak them. i don't expect them to be emailed around DC or anything (or even on a computer for that matter).

now, if we really want them to get out, but don't want to say we let them get out, then yeah, they could get leaked.

squi...I get your point...but ask a soldier if he feels safer here at home...or in Afghanistan...ok?

Personally, I have refused to live my life in fear...I have never thought of myself, here in the USA as being in harms way.

JMHO...but those Americans here in the USA, who do live in fear of the terrorists...that allows the terrorists to win.

...I refuse to allow the terrorists to win by spreading their terror to my family here in the USA.

Photos show three dead men at bin Laden raid house

By Adrees Latif
ISLAMABAD | Wed May 4, 2011 3:50pm EDT

(Reuters) - Photographs acquired by Reuters and taken about an hour after the U.S. assault on Osama bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad in Pakistan show three dead men lying in pools of blood, but no weapons.

The photos, taken by a Pakistani security official who entered the compound after the early morning raid on Monday, show two men dressed in traditional Pakistani garb and one in a t-shirt, with blood streaming from their ears, noses and mouths.

The official, who wished to remain anonymous, sold the pictures to Reuters.

None of the men looked like bin Laden. President Barack Obama decided not to release photos of his body because it could have incited violence and used as an al Qaeda propaganda tool, the White House said on Wednesday.

Based on the time-stamps on the pictures, the earliest one was dated May 2, 2:30 a.m., approximately an hour after the completion of the raid in which bin Laden was killed.

Other photos, taken hours later at between 5:21 a.m. and 6:43 a.m. show the outside of the trash-strewn compound and the wreckage of the helicopter the United States abandoned. The tail assembly is unusual, and could indicate some kind of previously unknown stealth capability.

Reuters is confident of the authenticity of the purchased images because details in the photos appear to show a wrecked helicopter from the assault, matching details from photos taken independently on Monday.

U.S. forces lost a helicopter in the raid due to a mechanical problem and later destroyed it.

The pictures are also taken in sequence and are all the same size in pixels, indicating they have not been tampered with. The time and date in the photos as recorded in the digital file's metadata match lighting conditions for the area as well as the time and date imprinted on the image itself.

The close-cropped pictures do not show any weapons on the dead men, but the photos are taken in medium close-up and often crop out the men's hands and arms.

One photo shows a computer cable and what looks like a child's plastic green and orange water pistol lying under the right shoulder of one of the dead men. A large pool of blood has formed under his head.

A second shows another man with a streak of blood running from his nose across his right cheek and a large band of blood across his chest.

A third man, in a T-shirt, is on his back in a large pool of blood which appears to be from a head wound.

U.S. acknowledgment on Tuesday that bin Laden was unarmed when shot dead had raised accusations Washington had violated international law. The exact circumstances of his death remained unclear and could yet fuel controversy, especially in the Muslim world.

Pakistan faced national embarrassment, a leading Islamabad newspaper said, in explaining how the world's most-wanted man was able to live for years in the military garrison town of Abbottabad, just north of the capital.

Pakistan blamed worldwide intelligence lapses for a failure to detect bin Laden, while Washington worked to establish whether its ally had sheltered the al Qaeda leader, which Islamabad vehemently denies.

Dave...as you know, I have had a son serve in Iraq too. If he was going back as your nephew is doing...the last thing I would want to do is make his tour more dangerous, by showing photos of bin laden's blown up head.

It's not about you...it's not about me...

...it's not about what you want to see...IT'S ABOUT THE SAFETY OF YOUR NEPHEW AND ALL HIS FELLOW SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE IN HARMS WAY.

Fact is...you don't have a need to know...neither do I...I accept that...you don't seem to get it.

...use your imagination..ok?

Spoken like somebody who really wants to be at war with Muslims for the next 500 years. Look, there are a relatively small minority of Muslims who will pick up arms and kill or will desecrate a soldiers body... then there is a huge number of Muslims who dislike violence by all sides.. and in the middle is a wedge of Muslims who don't like us, maybe even hate us, but are not willing to strap a bomb to their abdomen and try to blow something up.. that is the group we should care about because they are the ones who could be persuaded..

The only images that have been posted here (that I know of) thus far have already been debunked as Fakes.

Aside from that, the reported graphic nature of the images may well warrant that they not remain posted here.

Tell people what his cell phone number is then suggest they call him.

Short convo maybe? "This number is no longer in service"

I don't get the whole picture thing. Is it some kind of morbid curiosity? I just don't get it. Why do people feel that it is so necessary to see the death face of OBL.

Is it a trust thing?

Why would anyone want to see a bloody corpse?

Maybe it is a morbid curiosity. Maybe it's just wanting to see it. For some people - seeing pictures of death isn't a morbid curiosity. You know - like someone that ran up to the car window of a 16 yr. old, and watched her take her last breath. Or, maybe, the guy that went on a call for an accident, and found the car driver with his head split open. Then, later, found brain on his hand.

Some people don't like it - heck, I hope no one likes it. Some aren't freaked out by it either.
